Seeing the Aion 2 announcement was bitter-sweet

Before the game went F2P / P2W and was just a grindy Korean MMO with a focus on world PvP, I truly loved the game. It was possibly the best online gaming experience I’ve had in my life, and I remember how seemingly quickly that was ripped away as they moved away from the subscription model to F2P with a progression cash shop.

Aion 2 looks a little weird in UE5, definitely kind of uncanny valley, but still hearing the intro music again was a bittersweet experience. It reminded me of what was my favorite game in the world, and how badly the game progressed throughout the years.

Now I’m huffing copium hoping they go for a subscription based model in the West, or a GW2 model rather than what they did to current Aion or Throne & Liberty. I know this is almost certainly not going to be what they do, and it’ll be a P2W mess and I’ll be even more disappointed for letting myself hope but hey that’s showbiz baby.

Does anyone else remember the early days of Aion fondly? I want to reminisce.

I remember playinf balaurea 2.0 as a ranger.

I dont know why im hyped for aion 2, even willing to upgrade my pc to play it. Aion 2 is set on unreal engine 5. Allowing for full flight.

Im taking a wait and see kind of approach but will be playing the game during launch and if there is a collectors editon my ignorant self will end up buying it.

I’m very mixed. I think I’m going to wait a wee bit before buying it. I’m mostly concerned about the monetization of the game and how much emphasis will be placed on PvP.

I so so badly want Aion 2 to be good, but I’m entirely expecting it to be ruined by P2W out the gate.

I remember watching KR Aion videos before it came to North America. I played a Sorcerer because I saw this guy 2v1 some people in the Abyss and I’m like “wow, that’s awesome. I want to do that!”

Oh, me! I do! I do!

I started as an Elyos but rerolled Asmodian (though I can’t remember why) and had an absolute blast leveling up. The character creation was amazing. I’ve never been so satisfied with an avatar, lol. The environments were interesting. The music was great. The questing was fun. Gliding was fun. Combat looked cool - the NC Soft Devs are really top tier at combat animations I think.

Eventually I left because like Lineage 2, PVP is really the only main end game activity. That’s okay. I actually like PVP and had a blast with it in both Aion and L2, but sometimes I want some other options too, you know?

I have a special place in my heart for Aion. I think the inner earth premise was pretty neat too. It was a unique game. And it’s a small thing, but I’m very tidy/organized person in real life and for some reason I remember being immensely pleased with how clean, simple and intuitive the UI was. It just tickled me pink. :upside_down_face:

I’m only cautiously optimistic about Aion 2. I’ll probably be there day 1 regardless of how it’s looking though with rose tinted glasses equipped, you know, to get my nostalgia fix. Gotta get that fix!
