I respectfully disagree, there should be some room left for specialty events for fan communities in WoW. A lot of people really like the secrets finding - it’s no secret, most of us are going to just copy the coordinates from Wowhead and get some toys.
But these sorts of scavenger hunts are very common in communities and special interest groups, from WoW secrets to cryptography games as a security professional.
To be fair this event wasn’t so fast paced we can’t do it at our own pace so maybe we can get more from the experience. These clues were less obtuse than many, and they gave us a coordinate system with the thinking cap and a couple tools. More approachable than Lucid Nightmare or the other Legion hidden items.
There’s almost always something we can get out of it, some toys, an afternoon of gameplay. That’s if you don’t want to try (and maybe fail - nobody expects this to stick to everyone) to learn the new game-in-a-game and try something new.

They do make content for the majority of the player base. In fact this is content for the majority of the player base. Content for the secret finder discord is far more time consuming.

I like them… kinda feels like some of the more obscure vanilla quests if you dont go get help.
I thought it was fun, I’ve only done 3 of them so far but they were easy enough I could figure them out myself without going to wowhead. Much less opaque than stuff like Uuna or Scholomance secrets.
I loved the puzzles in Tomb Raider.
I think that’s exactly what it is, Blizzard replied to my ticket with a supposed auto-response about how to fix interface issues and closed the ticket. Meanwhile, I have discovered other vendors besides the original (“Treasure Master Iks’reeged”, a vendor in the Secret Treasure Lair located on The Broken Shore", the chest key ) (must be unlocked by THE MOTHERLOAD quest chain) that have at least 1 item that if you DON’T click "yes’ or “no” on the “are you sure you want to buy BLABLA window” you can take that window anywhere you want. If you take that window to another vendor that uses any non-gold currency, trying to buy an item will stack that window under the one you brought with you, UNLESS its also a movable window, in that case it will replace it.
This could be very complicated like the Nazjatar “Mrrl’s Secret Stash” thing that ended in a mount. I wonder if WoW has enough players interested in solving it, I told secret discord people, they seem to spend time on new secrets, not sure they have interest in old ones. Here are the vendors I have found so far, that have at least one item, that if you try and buy it, the “yes” or “no” window can be taken somewhere else:
Longboi vendor - boralus (not anymore, BUT there is a baby brutosaur in a basket next to him, my brain would explode if this all ended in a longboi mount.
Captain Klarisa - Boralus
Captain Roberts - Legion Dalaran
whizzig - timeless isle
The giant monkey in the chest room (the key) - timeless isle
The bloody coin guy - timeless isle.
Note- you dont need any of the item’s currency to get the “Are you sure?” window to appear. Good thing cause I dont have any of the timeless isle bloody coins.
I should make a new topic about this, for something to discuss during Tuesday patch.
Too much thinking involved, eh?
Brings back memories of how regular quests worked in Everquest. Before all that f2p nonsense.
You know how some old gear has red letters that say you can only buy it if you have a certain rating for that seasons pvp? I was trying different combinations of stacking the “are you sure” windows and those red letters disappeared, (vendor: Captain Roberts, Dalaran )BUT there were still red letters that said “Alliance only” so I couldn’t buy it, but last I checked I AM alliance… Could that what this is all about? Getting old gear sets without the rating? I wouldn’t complain if so. But I was hoping for a cheap way to get Mad Merchant spider (last quest in motherload chain involved spiders and I thought that might have been a clue. )
I played EQ too, povar server. Had a guild called Clan Darkfire. So many memories…
I thought the exact same thing!!! Thank you for posting it.
I think the Devs just make the game they want to play… a professional so passionate about gaming, as to seek employment at a gaming company with a very strong track record of toxic culture and negative treatment of employees (we haven’t forgotten yet have we?), probably does not have ideas representative of average gamers.
For at least the first two quests I did, nothing was overly cryptic or required help from the Discord. Idk about the rest.
The community satchels and Mimiron stuff is what makes me side eye though.
They do. Its called the whole game. Rofl
The idiocy of people these days.
Hivemind:
Teleports you and you fall taking fall damage.
Seperate the fall damage you took into groups of 2 digits. Reading it left to right, the numbers tell you how many times you have to pet animals in Suramar to unlock the next door.
Demon Goat pet:
Here is a maze, think Orcania of Time forest stlye (room, to room where you cant see whats next). Different for every person, no hints or guides possible. Players using multiple pieces of graph paper to draw routes to keep track of any progress they make.
Secrets Discord Puzzles are much more grand and time consuming than this. This event is purposly easier and made for everyone to take part of.

I’m glad developer time is allocated for these secrets. My only critique about the whodunnit chain is I know each daily completion is supposed to be related, unfolding a mystery, but I’m just not following, not seeing any real narrative.

I don’t have a problem with this holiday existing. It’s just that the writing feels like the developers really phoned it in. I don’t feel invested in solving the mystery other than to receive the rewards at the end, and it’s because the mystery isn’t interesting and the characters aren’t likeable.
I mean, maybe if they weren’t going to bother with good writing, then maybe they should have just spent time on bolstering areas of the game that need some love. I know people are going to tell me not to get mad at there being free rewards, but think about it: these rewards are dangled as distractions whenever the game seems to be in a poor state. It’s increasingly unacceptable.

Can these be done/collected at any point in the future, or only during this initial run?
The game is all about transmogs and pets. All things are about this now.
My only complaint about the event is an extremely minor one - I wish you could grip the Titan Key weapon mog the same way you would the Keyblade from Kingdom Hearts. Other than that it seems fine.

From what I understand, they can be done in the future. The limited time thing right now is just the opportunity to do them the day they release.
