Season of Discovery – Ashenvale PvP Changes December 7

… then just say Q? I mean Q is pronounced Queue lol.

Hoping to give feedback on player experience for a blizzard employee to see after changes.

I fly to ashenvale excited to PvP.

I run around and don’t see a soul, the battle gets close to starting raid groups are forming.

I join one still no one fight in sight. I go to first boss to dps that is closest to me.

I hit it , dies in maybe 20-30 seconds I get a little rep woo. I look over and see someone talking about day 1 how they layer tagged last boss and they are revered with wsg bit discouraged by this.

I start to head to boss 2 it’s only been 5 seconds and it dies. I get discouraged again and start to head to last boss instead of 3rd. 5 more seconds go by the 3rd boss dies. I’m only 1/4 way now on a mount mind you to final boss. Final boss dies and I’ve not even had opportunity to participate in the event or kill any alliance.

With your changes I got some rep which is nice just saved me hour or two of dying in wsg but I missed out on my PvP interaction , and I missed out on the real great reward. I have this quest in my bag now too from boss 1 , but I can’t turn it in.

I would hope that we would want this event to kick off , force some fights to happen, and give some time for players to make it to final boss. This feels like an AV Zerg , and I don’t really world PvP I really just race to get my rep.

Yup. Our catapult group layered to a different phase so they could go 120v80 leaving us 40v80. Actual stupid system.

Honestly, Ashenvale should just not be layered at all. If that results in 160v160 players in Ashenvale, why not let it ride? The current meta is to split into two raids on a given layer. Why not a meta where we split into 4 raids? Players should be far away enough from each other that the server should hold up unless the code is just that bad. 80v80 in one area holds up fine when you get pult vs glaive stand-off so I don’t know.

No one cares about players questing in Ashenvale. Let PvP happen in Ashenvale.

When is living flame for mages going to be fixed? Currently when two mages cast that spell, the mage that cast it 2nd does zero dmg with the spell and it goes on cooldown. This essentially deletes the spell making it very awkward to use in raid or in a group setting.

I hope they instead prevent premades from ever being a thing instead lol This was not fun at all during Classic in 2019. Going into a discord and trying to time Q ups to get into AV together or else you’re punished by joining an AV where its empty with the exception of the enemy team and they just win.

Most people say Que. Not my fault or concern. Just Que it up and have fun. It works and has worked for many years. Not sure why people are trying to make this a discussion but it does show that players will argue about nothing. Honestly people just move on.

Lets go PvP

On the big servers there could be thousands of people there, it does need to be split, but layering is currently continent wide I thought and I don’t think the system specifically tries to balance Ashenvale. If it does, it’s doing a very bad job.

Not sure there’s really a good balancing solution even if you do it based on zone since a lot of people may be afking waiting to get into BFD other than having people queue for it like Wintergrasp/a BG and actually just forcibly making it even numbers like a BG. That way everyone queued for it at least has an interest in doing it. They could put two raids for each side in one run so it’s not entirely like a normal BG. :man_shrugging: Perhaps also pushing people into real world layers rather than creating a separate BG instance and people who don’t queue for the event all get pushed into a different layer.

Part of what makes it so good is that it isn’t instanced. Instancing sounds awful. We want more players playing together not less.

It is in an instance though. There are layers. Those are world instances.

The problem is that it isn’t splitting people up in a very even way and has no way of knowing who is going to participate in the event or not if it does it automatically without a queue.

I feel like 80 v 80 would be pretty big. They could do 120v120 too if there’s enough people. No BG currently is more than one entire raid vs. another raid so it wouldn’t be like a normal BG.

Also, like I said before you don’t have to queue into a BG instance of it, the queue can be to see who is going to participate in the event and then push people into different world layers based on that so you fill layers with people interested in the event in equal numbers and push the other people out to other layers.

Right, we need less instancing not more. If they have to put all of Ashenvale on its own separate layer that’s fine but I want one layer.

This is simply ignoring the practical reality. It is not possible. It is not reasonable. There are too many people to not split them up and most people don’t want to be on servers small enough to not have layering.

Literally an 80 vs 80 brawl in one location straight up worked fine. I think split across multiple objectives the servers could handle 160 v 160 on the same layer.

It is possible and it is reasonable.

You’re missing the point that one layer isn’t the size you’re saying. Why do you assume one layer would would be enough for 160 vs. 160? What if there are 10k+ people on a single server and half of them show up to Ashenvale at the same time?

You can’t say get rid of layering on servers generally when you don’t know the size of them.

There’s no way that many layers are happening at the same time. We have global chat channels. There are usually 2 Kalimdor layers maybe 3 with usually around 80 vs 80 in each layer.

On living flame, which isn’t one of the biggest servers I don’t think, Nova World buffs shows around 10 layers.

10 layers for Kalimdor?

I believe all EK and Kalimdor layers are 1 to 1 so you transfer from one continent to the other on the same layer number, but I’m not 100% sure. I’ve been in say layer 6 or 7 when on Kalimdor though according to the addon.

In Layer 5 on Kalimdor atm.

this is silly. just play better and beat them. been beating premades all the time in the horde queue on lone wolf.

I just downloaded the layering add-on and I see many layers but only two of the layers on Lone Wolf have “layer data”. This gives me very high confidence that there are only two active layers and MAYBE they bump people off to a third from time to time but just keep the other in reserve. People are not actively split between 7 layers.
