As there is only one “support” role currently, Augmentation has a monopoly on that role and is felt to be required in all M+ keys/ raids at the higher level and created the “god comp” throughout Dragonflight since its introduction. As the only support, Augmentation can only ever be overpowered or nerfed so much that it wouldn’t ever be a viable option.
There also hasn’t been a new tank for almost 10 years and this would draw more players to that role and add variety, bringing the number of tanks to 7 (like 7 healing specs).
If it doesn’t become a tank, a new support should be added. A perfect rework for this new expansion would’ve been reworking “enhancement” into a support. Missed opportunity imo.

No, just turn it into a pure DPS spec.

No, not every new class needs a tank spec. Give it a rest.

All supports in FF14 are mostly dps specs that don’t do their damage themselves and the same should be applied in wow. It shouldn’t be about what more utility they bring. A devastation evoker should bring the same amount of utility as an augmentation imo.
Trying to add a “pure” support role that is needed/required into content I don’t think is the right way to go around it but if that’s the case then they should never be close to another dps in term of dps the same as healers are balanced.
I also don’t think we need more tanks they already struggle with current balance and adding more tanks doesn’t really add any meaningful amount of tank players like it’s been proven in the past at least as far as Blizzard told us.

Aug still gives way too much benefit to tanks and healers. That needs to be taken away. Especially with M+ timers trending more towards “Just survive and you’ll time it”.
I mean it’s already basically set it stone that Aug is already gonna be hard meta for S1 TWW.
Scale commander Aug is way too broken for any serious comp to not want to have.

Loved getting into groups as a dancer in shb, people always wanted me for dance buff but at the same time I was always able to do my own DPS to a degree and not be a pure support.

They really have other support specs RIGHT there in the form of the pure dps classes.
Rogues to coat their allies weapons with poisons and heal them a bit with potions.
Hunters to summon animals to aid their allies and heal with salves.
Warlocks to imbue their allies with fel magic and AoE soul link on cooldown.
Mages to reinforce their allies with insert literally any type of magic.

Wait, but how then do we maintain the age old tradition?
Death, taxes, and any new class with a tank spec will have better self sustain than a warrior.
always has been. prepare for another season of devastation enjoyers being called griefers for not playing buff bot spec.

Wouldn’t mind this at all.
Bring on the tinkerers. Give us a bard. Hell, maybe even a Lich could be a support class.
One tank, one healer, one support, two dps seems like a fun group composition. Time for the trinity to become a… quad?

Option 4, also a contender, delete aug and change all aug evokers into dev, the superior evoker spec

tbh i think they could rework demo into a support class fairly well, each demon they summon can give a buff to your teammates. Imps can give like a 1 percent stacking haste buff when they expire/explode, you could have the pups give a spell power buff, let the obelisk from pvp effect teammates in pve as a haste buff idk i think that would make sense for them.
I’d be stoked with that. Their spells look awesome. I just hate their current playstyle.

The addition of Aug has been such a disaster that we don’t need more support specs.

Call it Ruination and have it center around Neltharion’s powers as the earth warder. Use like rock or earth to crush and destroy enemies. Maybe have a molten lava breath or something
It would be kind of hard to make it work without encroaching on shaman tho
I see you chose the nuclear option
I’m not sure what the solution is, but yeah they either walk it back or commit with other support specs somewhere. Either or, I feel, leaving Aug as is on their own feels worse.

Leaving Aug alone isn’t the answer, nor is deleting a spec. They could rework Aug into either a DPS, heal, or tank, but look at Survival and how long it took to find it’s footing.
More support to add variety wouldn’t be terrible, but I don’t think changing existing specs is a good idea, again Survival. And I’m saying this as someone who enjoys the new survival.
Probably nerf all of Aug’s support stuff into the ground then give them different things like stops or knocks, support doesn’t need to mean “Hi I give you max throughput buffs that force you to bring me to keys”. I dunno, maybe get crazy and give them an AOE stun, WHOAAAA, crazy I know.
Honestly though, I think it might be time to axe Rogue. Maybe turn one of their specs into a support. Rogues act more like support in movies as well as comedy relief, having them be pure damage doesn’t even make sense, they’re rather cunning and capable of a lot more.
Take Subtlety and have it revolve around Mass Stealth. You could give them the ability to Vanish other players, kinda like how Brightwing and Tyrande can vanish people in Heroes of the Storm. It would be a survivability external, could attach anything to it, like DR or something. You could make them a Bard without being a Bard basically, maybe the first spec that pulls out a guitar or something, lol no maybe that’s a little too crazy, but Warcraft has had actual guitar animations and models for the longest time.
They already said that if they added new support specs, it would be totally new specs and not reworking of existing ones.
That would be making them a pure DPS spec. All DPS has group utility stuff that they bring, whether buffs, CC, movement… they just don’t have huge throughput bonuses like Aug has.

No I think giving them actual good personal damage would make them pure DPS, while not having to worry about buffing others mid combat.
Healers have knocks and AOE stuns, that doesn’t make them pure DPS.
