Scamming the Meta

I couldn’t get in any dungeons as Havoc so I switched to Devourer and was getting into dungeons left and right. I would switch back to Havoc before the key would start. No one has called me out yet because we still time and I top the meters but was wondering if people are as morally ambiguous as I am lol.

That could be considered griefing if the key goes sideways
I don’t care one way or another, if you’re timing keys you’re timing keys. But if you start failing keys and people are noticing, then “something” could possibly be done about it

I hadn’t considered the griefing angle…good point.

As long as he is performing his role, and isn’t swapping from tank to dps, this is not griefing.

When you invite a specific spec for a specific purpose and they change it, it very well could be.

Just like a tank choosing to tank, but also choosing to tank the key at the same time. They’re doing the job they signed up for, but also griefing at the same time.

You have no way of knowing what you were invited for beyond the role someone signs up for.

This is not griefing. He signed up to DPS and did just that. You don’t get to control what spec, talents someone chooses, nor how they decide to play.

You remind me of druids who sign up for a M+ as feral and right before the key starts they swap to moonkin.

My, my, look how the tables turn…

I play resto in M+ so if I tried to sneak in as another spec, it would not go well, lol.

You do. This is why the spec is listed instead of just the class.

Correct, so if you were invited as a DPS of a particular specialization and you change from that, then that could be considered griefing. All of this is highly ambiguous and we will likely never get a ruling on this particular issue.

But… that’s not the scenario that the OP is describing as they are describing a scenario in which they trick other people into inviting them when someone was looking for a particular specialization. In OP’s case, that would be crystal clear griefing as it would even fulfil the intent criteria of griefing.

I did that all the time on my hunter last season and it was great

I could see how it would be bad as a feral being boomkin but something like arcane vs frost etc isn’t a big deal

Applying as one thing just to change it to something else before there’s time to notice or react is misrepresentation and lying to the party leader and keyholder. That’s covered under the umbrella term known as griefing.

The party leader controls who they invite based off of whatever criteria they want. If someone is intentionally tricking the party leader to get invites, that’s blatant griefing and potential sabotage.

Citation needed. Bonus points if you can actually provide evidence of someone being actioned for this, because calling this griefing is stretching the definition to its absolute limits.

The literal first line on wikipedia:

A griefer or bad-faith player is a player in a multiplayer video game who deliberately annoys, disrupts, or trolls others in ways that are not part of the intended gameplay.

The actions of OP would fall clearly under “bad faith”, as they are misrepresenting their build to get an invite to a group under false pretenses. This would also be considered trolling. Now sure, if there’s no harm, there’s no foul. But the intent of tricking a party leader is clearly griefing. Might not be a bannable offense, but it’s not pedestal worthy either.

You’re just confused.

What actually happened was you were running Delves in your devourer spec and forgot to change into your Havoc M+ spec till after you were invited to the group, and it just slipped your mind to tell the group leader.

There was no intent to deceive.

Honestly that’s pretty smart. And kind of sad. Not on OP’s behalf but that folks are such meta jerks these days.

I just want to do a dang +10 on my healing Priest. But no, I have to join all of the “obviously ignored” groups because folks deny me left and right.

I usually end up making my own key. It works but it’s not perfect. I invite low tiers as well. Screw the meta, I’m not out here trying to clear +18’s. I just want my dang vault, and maybe 3k (And maybe 3.4k). But no, folks are so dang picky.

On the flipside, there are so many “exploit” groups out there. Yeah we see you sitting in queue waiting for some victim to carry you. Y’all are just as bad as the meta obsessors.

So your priest isn’t 3k? That’s why you’re not getting picked. It has nothing to do with you being a priest. Vault groups know there will be an overgeared and overqualified person applying to do farm. I’m guessing your ilvl is also behind the curve, so you are not the overqualified person, and you get passed on for one that is.

This never works out for me

I sign up as resto sham. Right before the key starts I switch to enhance.

They figure it out every time and kick me

What part of changing your spec before a key starts is (1) annoying (2) disrupting (3) or trolling?
