Exactly. They’ve made so many changes that deliberately makes it harder for us to get help. It sucks because Blizzard’s customer service used to be one of the things that really set them apart from other gaming companies.
I’m curious what happened between OP being “scammed” and the other guy putting the gun on AH for 100g.
Obviously, OP must have said something about it. There must have also been some kind of response, even if it was just putting him on ignore or something.
There’s clearly more to this story and I wonder how it played out.
Ha! You fell for the oldest trick in the book. Hope you learned your lesson. You should post this on your realm forum, its pointless to post it here.
Lol. I am sure he did not scam you. He was fair and offered it. Better luck next time.

I love 80s music.
Sorry you got scammed ![]()
this sounds like a good life lesson tbh
society is too quick these days to eliminate consequences of our actions and ill considered decisions, too many safety nets
One of the things i loved about Eve Online was the harsh lessons it taught me
the classic sleight of hand scam lmao u would think that it wouldnt work these days.
His response to me after the scam was “why does a level have this anyway?”
Referring to my level 1 bank alt, but he forgot the “1”. His guild booted him and his reputation is tarnished. He stated he was going to report me for harassment. I then told him that I would no longer do business with a scammer and put him on ignore.
You’re applying a statement to the wrong topic, that’s your problem. A scam is a loot dispute as much as an exploit is just clever use of game mechanics. Let me know how that worked out for everyone who exploited AP in Legion or the leveling potion in BFA. Hint: it didn’t.
Blizzard isn’t going to get involved in ninja looting such as “I ran a dungeon and the mage wiped my plate boots” or “Dude needed on a BoE after everyone else hit greed” that is true, but that doesn’t extend actual scams that result in player interactions.
I mean if you end up being right nothing stops me from taking someone’s lionheart mats and just selling it myself. Hell maybe I don’t even have the recipe I’ll just sell the mats. With how big servers are today I could probably get away with it a decent amount before, if ever, it caught up to me. Then I’ll just muddy the waters by claiming he wouldn’t pay the crafting fee.
Regardless if you end up being right it would show extremely poor customer service skills. If it can be verified in-game there should be reason it can’t be dealt with.
I have noticed that trades in classic are somewhat laggy. I often see the green overlay thinger flicker without anybody changing anything. I could see this as something a reasonable person could get fooled into falling for.
The bottom line though is that the other party deliberately exploited mechanics to trick the OP into giving away their item for free. Sure the OP made a mistake, but the fault doesn’t soley rest on their shouders.
There is precedent for Blizzard rectifying this kind of thing. They have chat logs to investigate so they’ll see if an agreement was made. They can also tell if money changed hands or not. This is a story that’s pretty easy for Blizzard to verify.
I hope you get your item back, OP!
The amount of victim blaming in this thread is almost shameful. The offending person maliciously deceived the OP for financial gain. It’s a scam, plain and simple. Could it have been avoided? Or course. But don’t sit on your high horse and pretend you haven’t been burned by a scammer before.
OP, you can try to open a ticket for this and be as detailed as possible. They will likely say no at first, but reopen the ticket and emphasize that the chat logs say he agreed to pay 100g and he did not holdup his end of the deal.
Blizzard added a trade window popup with a 3 sec timer “are you sure you want to trade that?” for this reason. Did that not pop up for you OP?
There is an Atiesh discord that has a list of Dbags that do this type of thing. Can’t name and shame here but it’s open season there!
As mentioned…no way to do this.
Each time gold is added or taken away, you need to REaccept.
As if you never over pressed a button, not paying attention for a second.
It’s easy to do
Yep, dont click accept until they do!
this has literally never happened to me in 15 years of wow.
What now?
At some point in your life, RL or in a game, you’ve probably thought to yourself, “wow I almost got scammed, good thing I was paying attention and didn’t.” Just imagine if you weren’t paying attention and you did get scammed. It’s that simple. Don’t blame the victim.
nope, sorry. guess im not an idiot.
I’d just try putting in the ticket see what happens, the guy set out to dupe you on purpose, it’s a scam by definition.
