Say NO to Hunter Tanks

Silence healadin!

Honestly they’re pretty good in SoD. I’ve yet to see one do any crazy jank.

make eyes of the beast a toggle, with all/new pet abilities, and then make the player character become an AI pet hunter with pet bar lol

but honestly I think survival hunter being melee/tanks would be awesome

Lets not get ahead of ourselves here.
A hunter taunt and some mitigation is good enough for me

Hunter tank yes
And make hunter a bandage master who heals target with buffed bandages, just like mage has his unique heal mechanism, hunters use bandage to heal
Now the class is completed can be tank dps heal, is easy to find a group

I actually do, I want other roles for hunter, and I am not the only one!

Would love a tank or healer hunter.

And everyone wants at least one hunter in their raid for Lion currently dude…

Adding a tank rune for hunters isn’t even that much work, less than for rogues and locks. All it really needs is the basic tanking package.

Here is an idea:

  • Rune of wathever, shoulders slot.
  • Requires a 2h weapon.
  • Drastically increases threat, reduces chance to be critically hit by 6% and turn disengage into another ability that’s a taunt.

Then you can add another rune so hunters would actually buy mongoose bite at the class master:

  • Rune of …, cloak slot.
  • After using mongoose bite, increases max health by 15% and reduces all dmg taken by 15% for 10s.

And that’s it. As an added bonus it naturally makes the SV tree worthy of investment because that’s where the defensive talents are located.

I’d rather heal. Let me tame a faerie dragon and give it the ability Brightwing has in hots to pulse aoe heals

that would require QUITE the overhaul of pet ai and abilities.
(which id be all for)
unfortunately, i dont think blizzard wants to or even has the time to invest in something like that.

I’d like to see the Hunter have another role than DPS. Hell, I think they’re the only class in SoD with one role.

A Ranger tank would be pretty cool. We’re partially there with Lone Wolf… Heck, we might be there already with all the melee runes and LW.

Need a taunt though…

yea please god no no tanking give me disengage no tanking

i forgot that once they add tank runes, every hunter is suddenly forced against their will to play tanks

Hunter tank is a terrible idea. Melee hunter aoe is bad. 6 second cooldown without proc on raptor strike. A taunt won’t fix that for holding aggro on more than 1-2 mobs.

Lets say a way is found and toolbox is expanded. People with just use it in pvp. What could go wrong.

Carve, explosive trap.

There’s different types of tanks… Raptor is 3sec runed and it procs all the time, making it almost constantly spammable. There’s traps too… Carve… It could be done with another Rune or two.

It’d be cool them bringing back the old EQ Ranger in WoW

  1. people are already using survival talents in pvp
  2. What good will a taunt and some more defensiveness do if your damage is neutered by a tank spec?

That’s why I proposed that they wouldn’t be able to use a Pet as a Tank (Huntsman).

  • Based around Aspects
  • Rune grants: Aspect of the Huntsman
    • Increase armor by X%; since they get mail later on, I’m not sure what a good percentage would be
    • Provides crit immunity
    • Makes Distracting Shot a 0-10yrd taunt + high threat
    • All shots become 0-10yrd ranged attacks
    • All shots still affected by Hawk Eye; so 16yrd would be the max range
    • Increases dodge by 15% (as a 2hand tank, I have ~22% avoidance so trying to aim for that amount); remember 5/5 Imp. Monkey would be 13% dodge.
    • Raptor Strike now causes high threat
    • Mongoose Strike provides a 30 second damage reduction when used
    • Cannot use a pet ((Forgot to add in the early-early post))

As for AoE…well, I do say “all shots become 0-10yrd ranged attacks” and Multi-shot is classified as a ‘shot’ with regards to Runes that affect ‘shots’. Could add a bonus threat modifier to it when using this ‘tank Rune’.

Tweaks to damage output could be made just like how Warrior’s lose damage in Defense Stance. But I don’t think that would be needed since most Melee Hunters appear to still use Pets to do a large portion of their damage (they don’t appear to be running Lone Wolf).

People just forget Carve exists when it comes to the AoE threat argument. Add a modifier to it for threat generation when using the tanking rune and job done for AoE threat

Carve might work, but I feel like that would cause too much AOE Threat and turn Hunter into the ‘go to’ for AOE Threat…much like what happened with Paladin.

Also, at the time, Blizzard had yet to ‘stack runes’ (ie the plethora of Exorcism runes Paladins now have). Personally, I don’t like the idea of requiring players to ‘stack runes’ to make a single ability ‘good’; even if that ability is, itself, from another Rune.

I’m also leery on assuming Blizzard can just add modifiers to abilities. Like, can this fabled Huntsman Rune add the ‘bonus threat’ modifier to Carve? I really don’t want to assume it can.
