San’layn/vampyr Elf ALLIED RACE Coagulated Megathread of Ideas{Re-VAMPed}

Yup. But there are some nice deviations from the norm that would be appreciated which I understand is a desire. I favor some of them. Naga-snake/medusa human for example would be great. Murloc- frog/ambhibian humans. Tolvir-cat-horse-bird(sphinx) humans.

I see most of the hate coming from monster like avatars on horde. Or rarely played races on alliance. I would like to understand the rationale but im guessing everyone just wants what they want and show negative reaction to whatever they dislike.

Im not a fan of vulpera but there are aspects I like about them. For example I will have to evaluate lore, playable classes and aesthetics. I would give them a chance but I understand and have seen my and others feeling change on an allied race I thought I would hate as lore was introduced. (I thought I would hate both kultirans and mechagnomes but they grew on me as I played).

Think thats why the Sethrak thread is so up there trying to get nice looking cobra people into the game, plus i know we said hundreds or even thousands of posts ago about making the San’layn more unique and batlike.

Yep, bat-like ear options and a bat-monster sort of morph or power which would be similar to worgen or some other racial. Some have brought up a bat nose as well which would be cool as an option but not required hopefully. Long claws and teeth all sharp would be really neat as well.

I still think Sethrak (worgen skeleton) and San’layn (undead race variant) would go well together.

The biggest hurdles for races like these would again be the functional ones; the same reasons why bipedal races are ideal. For instance, how would a naga jump or mount? How would they sit or wear pants?

Some of the proposed solutions are a bit lore-breaking, like giving naga a “two forms” ability that lets them shapeshift in a bipedal night elf analogue when attempting to use mounts, but there’s no easy answer for the pants thing.

With the advent of mechagnomes I think, at least for some of us, the answer to at least one of the questions is “we don’t care.” If naga can’t wear pants, that’s just one less thing you can transmog, and anybody who plays a naga has to accept that. Mechagnome players are going to be making an active choice that their hands and legs have limited appearance options and can never be covered by transmog, and I think there are some players that will be cool with that.

Now, is it possible that including more of these races as allied races would make certain players more agreeable towards additional elves? Possibly. If Alliance got Sethrak or Naga at any point during this expansion it’s likely they wouldn’t have reacted with such toxicity towards the mechagnomes. If Horde had Ogres, Arakkoa or Tolvir the “no more elves” crowd might be a bit smaller, because at that point the conversation isn’t about “what race that I like is being sacrificed in favor of this race that I do not like?”

This is all just a big pointless thought experiment, however, because I don’t think it’s necessarily helpful for one to shape their desire based on whether other people accept it. Orc players, for instance, tend to have a very… particular idea on what the Horde *should be.

But in that case the best thing to do is to just stop listening to them and push forward with logic and reasoning to support what it is you want.

What about webbing under their arms? i recently got into that Monster Musume manga (since the anime wont progress) and it has a vampire who is more species based than plain curse or infection (but its confirmed to be that way too) and shes basically very lithe and skinny and is basically a bat person, adopt similar features but stop a quarter of the way maybe and BAM! vampire bat elf

Also Rorrand if they came out and said they have a New race alliance and sub race horde coming next it’ll appease me xP atm im just pretty pissed they broke the pattern for bias atm lol, they lack the human basic society that we got from the monkeys known as communication and i highly doubt they’ll start anytime soon given its near to non existant.

“Kyurii”? Looked it up out of curiosity. Don’t think I can post an image though since it might be a bit not appropriate for the forums, but based on what I saw, that could be neat. Granted I feel like grasping weapons would be a huge hurdle, not to mention there’s no lore to back that up entirely.

A monster form like it though could work, in which the weapons simply disappear or go on your back.

Also a very lithe/skinny or opposite, highly muscular model for them would be really cool. Though the former might make more sense to be a bit more ‘desperate’ looking for blood.

Yea i wouldn’t shes one of the more ‘open’ viewed characters so wouldn’t risk posting her image here specifically specially to show off the bat parts, but yea thats why i said use that idea and stop a quarter of the way so you don’t have a literal batman problem show up else its an entirely different race by that point instead of a blood/high elf subrace thing like the San’layn are.

I do like the desperate for blood part, since its basically worse for them mana on a blood elf back in TBC lol.

Just saying understanding the rationale could really help address the problem. It could be just a matter of timing. As you suggested. No more elves could just mean no more elves right now. So wait. But players tend to be a bit hyperbolic. I know I can get caught up in the faction roleplay sometimes and say things I dont mean. But some players really do mean.

(Like saying no more elves sarcastingly even though you would like and actually play them).

Anyway can’t wait to see what blizzcon reveals. Datamining is ongoing I hope they dont spend too much time talking about 8.3.

The webbing between their arms and bodies wouldn’t be a bad thing. Also, it can make sense for the lesser san’layn, or a more casual form. For them, they could have a passive that gives them a permanent slow fall or no fall damage. Since they are blood elves, they could use the demon hunter gliding animation if they have wings sprouting out from their backs.

Yup and its also a good excuse for why every San’layn does have the ‘royal’ wings that only 2 of them possess too.

So happy to be back, Oh Powerful Blood Queen Fallynn! ((Really, though! Blizzard NEEDS to make an NPC based off of you, for the new Blood King/Queen!))

I’m out of likes but enjoy the wings idea. I’m still very miffed about the whole Calia thing though. At least there’s the prophecy possibly referring to her but honestly I doubt it will lead to much.

I can still hope but ugh.

Also:

Lines for stuff in icecrown.

Is anyone on this thread going to Blizzcon? Maybe they can make a request during the Q&A. Officially bring it up and make a point for them. Mention that there is a group that wants the San’layn to be a playable race.

The questions are preselected. And they usually bring up a thread where you can ask questions. If a bunch of people ask about San’layn on horde you might get to see it in the presentation. It should be up soon. Given blizzcon is in 3 weeks.

True, but a particularly bold rebel could always go full red shirt guy :smirk:

In which they get escorted off the stage. And I bet if they do it would be about some other controversial topic. I doubt they would for San’layn, although I would love for them to bring them up. The next expansion should be teased and that should give us a good idea of any new allied races pertaining to it. The Vulpera were shown in the BFA presentation and were instantly loved and requested. Mechagnomes were also shown in a presentation before. The nightborne were also shown in the Legion presentation and they became playable.

Been a while since I posted my updated suggestions consolidation.

Feel free to copy/paste/edit this for San’layn Suggestions.

I’m still in favor of Nathanos’ Dark Hounds as their racial mount.

Based on a ton of new textures, and datamined icecrown activity, it appears we might get AR DK according to wowhead.

You know… This would be the perfect time to roll out an established undead race that would enable playable vampires… Hmmm. :stuck_out_tongue: :bat:

Something that would fit in if given the story love a certain community has suggested for a while Hekhekhek…

Every time I see that nosferatu gal with bald head and dark smokey eyes my need for them grows. If they actually become a allied race I would race change my alliance warlock in a heartbeat
