San’layn/vampyr Elf ALLIED RACE Coagulated Megathread of Ideas{Re-VAMPed} (Part 1)

Fallynn…If the Venthyr are a compromise for the San’layn, in which Blood Elves don’t get the San’layn treatment, then I’d take the Venthyr any day. If the Blood Elves DO get the San’layn treatment, then I would love that as well. I’m ready to be given a bone thrown for me!

Good for you. I personally disagree and don’t like them. I don’t do “Compromise”. Either they say “No, there’s no chance for San’layn or customization”, or I will keep asking and sharing my ideas. If they tell me ‘no’, I’ll likely leave and stop with this all together. I definitely wouldn’t be playing a Venthyr though, as Nightfallen/Nosferatu aren’t my thing and look terrible.

Really annoying how much work and ideas are shared here just to have people be like “Nope forget about San’layn we should get these as compromise, forget the blood curse and all of those ideas.” That’s not what I started this thread for. People that want just a vampire race with no ties to a San’layn, feel free to go start your own Venthyr thread, I’m sure you’d have tons of supporters. Maybe even more than here.

Crazy thought: Kael’thas gets turned into a San’layn in Revendreth and then turns other Blood Elves into them thus giving us San’layn as a playable race.

I was thinking it was a possibility. Never know, it depends on what theme they want to go with him. It’ll be neat once we actually see him, if he’s a ghost or more like the covenant that he works with. That could apply to all of them too.

I have a idea.
big brain time.
A racial bonus idea.
" Siphon lingering anima : 5 min cooldown. Siphon the lingering anima from slain humanoids near you. " This gives you a buff for 5 mins per humanoid in your area ( cap of 1 hour. ) You earn a better critical strike and xp generation.

I do believe the two left over allied races might be the bastion folk for alliance and venthry for horde.
I hope theres a pretty option for the venthyr. like a glam vamp not a Nosferatu decrepit rat eater.
They could tie this in with lore, like the more life energy that surrounds them rejuvenates them to a refined form.
They are deprived of anima right now, all the anima is going straight to the trash compactor maw. So maybe this is like the nightborne exiles in suramar. Missing that arcwine

The only reason I doubt this is the Kyrian and Venthyr are dead. They are souls already in the Shadowlands, so unless Blizzard does something where the souls in the Shadowlands can come to Azeroth I don’t see them becoming Allied Races.

The most simple solution to that is to give San’layn customization to Blood Elves then, and a bit of that lore. Then they wouldn’t have to modify the model at all to give the options, and it’d satisfy those that actually care about the lore of the original vampires (that aren’t demons).

Also, yeah we don’t know if these races in Shadowlands can actually leave, but I’m sure Blizzard will make it happen somehow.

Well the preorder epic tier lets you summon the dude from Shadowlands to farm for the tmog set so that makes me think the races there can leave.

I can hope at least. Still want San’layn!

If San’layn do end up getting some lore and then by extension some customization on Blood Elves, we’d have access to all of the new hair styles coming in for Blood Elves as well, and wouldn’t have to rep grind or restart/swap our characters. Hm. If they could pull it off right and not leave the lore in the dust, I’d be pretty happy.

Then, those wanting Nosferatu vampires could push for Venthyr, should they indeed be able to leave the Shadowlands. We could just use the Venthyr racial mount on the customized San’layn :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: (this is timestamped)

This person is amazing!

I’d love it if we could get a new voice option to go along with this somehow. San’layn with the default belf player voice seems off.

I feel like the shadowlands will be destroyed or merge with our world near the end of the xpac. tbh though thats just a theory. a gamy theory.

Didnt shanlayn come from the dreadlords though?

We don’t know, the Blood Curse is ancient and Vry’kul in origin, it could be that the Dreadlords created it, but there’s no lore confirming nor denying that.

I have to agree. I don’t like the idea of a race becoming playable as a “compromise” for another race. Blizzard already has done that with a particular race, and it still has caused a kerfuffle that gets mentioned to this day.

There is something that bothers me about there being a race that exists in game that for some reason, whatever it is, Blizzard would not them as playable but decides to either add in a similar race or create a brand new one with some similar feature that becomes playable instead. It’s not a great feeling for those wanting the race that already exists, and the whole thing would just feel asinine.

To be clear, I am not speaking about any race in particular, but my opinion is that a race that becomes playable should never be viewed as or utilized as a compromise for another one not getting in. I could go on and on about this, but it would be quite the wall of text.

In terms of San’layn as a customization option for Blood Elves…I’m honestly not sure how I feel about it. I felt a bit odd seeing Wildhammer Dwarves as a customization for the Dwarf core race while Dark Iron Dwarves got to be playable, and the idea of San’layn becoming a customization option for Blood Elves strikes me as that of the Forsaken being a customization option for humans, albeit not quite THAT drastic.

Could San’layn work as a customization option? Sure, it could, but I feel like San’layn and Blood Elves operate differently enough to have different racials and abilities, San’layn having blood related skills and bat form for example, and would act differently enough to at least operate as a separate playable race. Let’s not forget the dangling of the vampiric carrot of San’layn appearing in an expansion where the allied race system made its debut. Still hoping they become more than just jobbers for the Alliance to kill and get some sort of fist-bump moment.

As for the four covenants and the allied race system, as it is right now, it is my personal opinion that they don’t seem like they would become playable. That said, we’ll have to see how they are in-game when Shadowlands comes out and see what Blizzard does with them to estimate what their chances of actually becoming playable in the future are.

…and it sure feels like we’re going to have a lot of waiting in order to see what happens in the future with more radio silence, both for Shadowlands and 8.3 whenever it comes out. Fun times…fun times…

As someone who plays both factions, this felt absolutely wretched. It felt like Blizz was making me deny myself an Allied Race.

I play both factions, though you can probably tell that I much prefer Horde, but regardless of what race was put in place of the San’layn, I would feel pretty bad for those hoping said race would become an allied race.

So far, it has been a missed opportunity that yet has anything to come up with it. Had the allied race system not been in this expansion, I wouldn’t think much of the San’layn presence, but to just throw them in there makes me feel like someone just wanted some undead jobbers that act like a Saturday morning cartoon villain for the Alliance to defeat and make them feel good about themselves. This after what Rokhan said and the possibility that we’d see more of the San’layn have a role in BfA.

Granted, BfA is still going on, but unless there are more patches for it past 8.3, the only hope we have is seeing them have a role in Shadowlands…preferably not as fodder for Sylvanas to throw at us when she likely becomes a raid boss.

Anyway, I could go on and on about it, and I have multiple times in this megathread, but I’m sure I could hit the text limit for posts several times over about how annoying the situation is. <- <;

Vanpires are better than tree sniffers.
Its a fact fallyn.

At least a banshee/spectre form could be incorporated into a dark ranger class or as a racial for san’layn or something, but as customization you couldn’t go all out with the ghostly theme :c

They’re really inconsistent with whether blood/high elves have fangs. The player models don’t, but npcs like Alleria and Sylvanas have baby fangs. Sylvanas doesn’t have fangs in the Warbringers and the CGI cinematics, but she and Alleria do in others.

Maybe the blood elves just got sent there. Tried to steal there magic and then got rezzed by arthas seeing them more wierd then usual? Lol. All the people that go there supposedly can be redeemed after taking some punishment (hint at what might happen with Kael’thas).

I think currently the lore for Arthas was peeved at the blood elves and Illidan for attacking him and made them more cursed/blood thirsty then usual. Arthas may have known how to apply the curse, maybe it’s just a spell coming from that part of the shadowlands. Dks seem to get there power from there so maybe it’s just native to that part of the world.

Drust magic seems native from the druid like place.

Ghouls from the army place.

And remember there are many realms in the shadowlands so we aren’t even seeing them all. Either the vrykul or the Nathrezim discovered the curse first since they both have similar powers. Im leaning toward Nathrezim, they craft alot of lich gear and such and are ancient. Probably before the titans as well.

And I wonder if archeology will be relevant in the shadowlands. Might get some lore hints there. Can’t wait for the new zone.

Also if blizz listens to any feed back it would be making San’layn an Allied race perhaps around the time the raid goes live or a bit after. If Kael’thas is redeemed he may help usher them in completely. After all, the san’layn originally were his elite squad that were killed and turned into more cursed undead to spite them.

P.S. I am more for the more the merrier. I personally want the san’layn cause I like the blood elf casting animations. Venthyr could be dope too but I guess I’m selfish in wanting them both! And if they were different races they could maybe get a different class. The pro to making them tied to blood elves is that demonhunters could possibly get San’layn customization options O.o and I could be a vampire demon hunter.
