Sad news for Hunters

The creator of Petopia, Sandra ‘Mania’ Powers, has sadly passed away…

If you’re a Hunter there’s a good chance you have used Petopia. Either you were looking for the best pet (always sporebat), or just wanted to know how to tame them Petopia was your guide.

I been using it since I found out about it, before it was turned over to Wain. This is saddening news to loose a person that been such an impact on Hunters.

Sad to hear. Condolences. I’ve been using Petopia for years, many times too.

In Cataclysm I think that was the expansion pack that had the hunter pet taming challenges, some of the unique pets would kill you if you didn’t tame it right, run the challenge, etc. I was in and out of Petopia many, many times around then.

Not sure if we still have rare spawns on an 8 hour timer anymore, but when we did, I was on the site getting the pet’s path.

Very sad to hear indeed.

There was a post about this on the GD earlier today, but for some reason got removed. There wasn’t anything wrong with it which is upsetting for someone who put so much effort into bettering the quality of resources for hunters.

Sandra was not the creator of Petopia, only an admin.

Brash was the original creator of Petopia, back in 2005 I think.

Sandra was the creator of Mania’s Arcania, an older site dedicated to Hunter pets, which originally launched in June 2007.

Mania’s Arcania was retired sometime between November 2008 and 2010, I’m not entirely sure when, but maniasarcania.com now redirects to petopia.

Wain has taken over her mantel on Petopia. They were the one who broke the news first. They deserve a lot of gratitude for all the work they done to keep the site alive.

Every patch they go on the ptr looking for the next tameable beasts.
