S4 Meta Achievement & Anxiety

I’m annoyed at how far behind I am on DF’s meta, and that most of the ones I’m behind on are the rng time gated ones, like hunts, elemental storms, forbidden reach, and fishing.

What’s most bothersome about it is that that I’ve felt like I’ve been doing the content at a reasonable place, but to find out how far behind I am on the time restricted meta achievement and most of the ones I’m missing are different rotations of time gates, I look forward to what my expectations are for S4 and the potential of these rotating time gates not lining up well. I don’t have a suggestion to help with the current meta achievement, but my suggestion for future xpac meta achievements are as follows:

It’d be nice if it was a persistent Work in Progress achievement. So like on release it shows the achievements that are able to be completed by the end of S1, except for 1 that is a S2 achievement (likely the S2 raid achievement), that way the meta can’t be completed during S1, then S2 achievement’s are added onto the achieve and 1 undoable from S3, again just a generic “Raid from Season 3 Completed” obvious achievement but also no spoilers and renamed during the actual season.

That way we could see the stepping stones for the meta as they come each patch instead of trying to fomo ones in the last season that we could’ve been working on since launch had we known.

One comment I’ve heard is that the Meta Achievement likely isn’t thought out by S1. To that I would say, if they’re not sure in development, we’re definitely not sure as players, just choose some as a general direction of intention then cut back as needed based on feedback of ease, difficulty, or de/increased frequency of rng quests and events.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Seconding this.

The ripcord should’ve been pulled early during Shadowlands too, it was a rush toward end of game to get the completionist meta.

And on one hand, it’s fair to say “well, you should’ve been playing the game all along,” but the reality is many of us are. DF had a ridiculous amount of content which is great, but that means we all pick and choose along the way to balance our game play with everything else. I probably do 80% M+ content and 20% rest of the game.

It wouldn’t take much to fix this too. Just like how we have the campaign quests so they stick out, achievements contributing to the completionist meta could stick out. And Blizzard makes the rules ultimately - so season by season they can do their best to pick the best most interesting achievements of that season and we’d have “Season 1 Completionist” and “Season 2 Completionist.” If this late announcement is a weak attempt to reinvigorate the end of an xpac, then simply make a “Season 4 Completionist” have a time-gated, maybe even challenging achieve, but without the baggage of people needing to rush Seasons 1-3. I’d find that engaging.

The bottom line is if we at least had goal posts throughout the whole xpac - and I repeatedly asked my friends the whole xpac if they knew anything about the xpac meta completionist achievement - this would feel FAR more fair. It’s basic communication. Manage expectations. And for a game so full of content and achievements, it feels like a relatively straightforward problem to fix.

Thanks for reading.

Since I like to hunt achievements and often felt I was behind on time gates ones, I decided to try something different.

I started with SL and co to yes with DF. I look at achievements at the start of the expansion and each season and try to be aware of them as I progress through the story.
Near the end of each season when things start to slow down, I work on the random achievements and such.

I always have one or two achievements I’m tracking at any particular time on most of my alts, throughout the expansion.

Just wait until you get to obtaining the Seething Chest… the ones you listed will seem like a blessing.

It looks like the achievement where the Seething Cache is needed isn’t part of the meta achievement, so it’s not only available for a limited time. Trust me, search up my simple armory, I’m not afraid of achievements that take months or years or correct rng to accomplish, but when their reward is time restricted and we are told the requirements 3/4 the way through an expansion is when an issue arises.

That would be cool… a ‘work in prog’ list.

I never got around to doing the whelp daycare achieves because I wasn’t really in the mood, but I had known they were part of the DF meta mount, I would have done them earlier.

Kind of kicking myself for not doing the whelp dailies since many folks had said that it was fun, cute content.

It is part of Treasures of Zaralek Cavern, hopefully, they’ll remove that one and make it a Feat of Strength instead.

Really glad I did seething early, along w daycare when I was bored. Kicking myself for not doing at least some of the storms when I was catalyzing gear in Thaldrazus tho. Got 4/4 to do there.

Wait till you see the storm you need and … you’re at work or alseep.

Glad I did all these early.

Obviously, this is a pretty ridiculous “solution”, but if you’re able to set a 3am or 4am alarm, turn on WM, you might have a pretty good shot to get this one done. Have all the orb waypoints inputted on your map. Spend 5 minutes flying around when you wake up. If you can’t get three, just go back to bed and try another night.

Also, maybe it was obvious but don’t use dragonriding in the area. Just use regular flying, and the dudes in the area won’t try and shoot you down.

I did manage to get it by chance tonight, regardless the way it’s setup where you must compete against several servers for ONE opportunity to loot it is not going to fly with most folks.

I do not believe that the meta is time gated now. In SL, the original meta as a FoS and we were told that it was time gated. Blizz has now rectified that and moved the SL meta, and placed the DF meta, in the top section of the Expansion Features achievement group. This, to me anyway, says that this is not time gated and could be completed like any old content dungeon achievement (as an example) should you not complete all of the requirements while DF is live content. The only difference between the original time gates SL FoS and the achievement is that the “Veilstrider” title is not awarded with the newly added SL meta, just the mount.

While I can’t say for certain that this is the case, to me it looks a pretty safe bet. Keep working on your achievements. Still lots of time left in DF to complete the meta.

Good luck to all.

Just to add to the well defined list here:

  • Cobalt Assembly: increase mob spawn rate or increase frequency of the rep currency drop. Even during times of elemental storms its nearly impossible to get a mob tapped for the storm achievement.

  • Just to add to the seething cache - this is horrible. I love achievements and achievement hunting but this being a requirement of an expansion meta makes it sad. I think a reasonable solution is “find 10 of the 20 treasures” or some format like that. You can put in work but its not 100% RNG on your completion.

  • I echo everything said above. I appreciate the achievement, but why keep us in the dark so long about things we could have been doing while it was current? I would have loved to farm storms for the achievement even if I didnt need the gear - when the content was current!

I love seeing people being agreeable and helpful on this thread. Thanks all.

I’m focusing on the most time consuming/hardest achievements first, out of what I’m missing, and at some point I figure the rest will be almost fun to obtain, bouncing around the xpac again.

Good luck out there

I have all but the fishing hole locations and one missing companion color from the hunt. The fishing hole spot being a 2 minute daily quest but the location changes weekly is really frustrating, waiting 7 days to check to see if a thing I can do in 2 mins is up. The other being the companion color being a 1.4% ish drop chance according to wowhead, so just farming hunts endlessly on end is also not ideal when I already have everything else I need from hunts and the renown maxed. Would like these being changed to fishing holes changing daily, and the drop chance on the companion color being at least around 5/10% seems reasonable.
