So I main ret paladin and figured id start with the design; it is INSANELY basic, paladins are known to have gloriously shining and brilliant armor, exteavagant and foreboding but this design has…absolutely none of that. Its a very basic almost silvermoon city guard style armor that doesnt really have a paladin feel to it at all.
The classes that won out the most with the design have to be Mage, Warlock, Druid, Rogue which is the absolutely best designed one of the group and Death Knight.
As far as the 2 set being cookie cutter with slight differences on to what spells they effect and how they effect them leaving the 4 piece being the defacto class ability rep is kind of boring and lazy, especially since it kills any sort of creative process into designing 2pc and 4pc.
I know this next part is off topic but wanted to include it…shaman is getting a design change for lightning bolt but why cant paladin? We STILL havent gotten updates to our ability designs and I want the old animation of judgement to come back from wrath with it being the sky hammer
I don’t really care about the aesthetics that much. A lot of sets (both Paladin and not) have been completely misses with me. I’d say only about 10-20% of the tier sets in the game actually resonate with me. And since we have transmog, I don’t really feel like I need to complain about it because I can make any armour look like sets that do resonate with me.
This is the part that pisses me off. Remember DF Season 2? Probably the best set bonuses they’ve made in years. HoW applies (what is now) Greater Judgement? YUS! HoW becomes AoE? EVEN MOAR YUS!
Just more % damage is boring. I want mechanical changes! That’s what’s fun an interesting.
i would say its traditional instead of basic… it has the right vibes to a paladin knight set, it actually makes me thing of different games, like a warrior royal guard set from these games, so i like it.
which leads me to this, how can you find the paladin set basic when you think the warlock set is a winner? only the shoulder and helmet is good, everything below is just bad and can be easily replaced by something better that already exists. Rogue is a good niche, not everyone cares about pirates, druid brings something new but not in a epic manner.
I think death knight they could have been a bit more over the board, the shoulder feels a bit small, the helmet feels like is missing something for the finish touch.
I just actually hate the design of my shaman Set. S1 was horrible and s2 doesnt make it better.
I dont like skirts. Why is enhancement forced into wearing these long ugly skirts. I want pants! I am not a cloth caster nor a mage. I am a melee slapper! Skirts hinder leg movement!
I liked it, sometimes the basics work. I just think they could improve the colors. Some colors there don’t match paladin at all. I’m excited to get the gold color version.
At first I thought this was in regards to the revamped T2 tier sets from the anniversary and I was thinking that most people really liked the paladin one.
It’s leaning into a casino theme full tilt. But what hints have we been given about any kind of casino theme to Undermine. The idea of a Casino and Mine are so far removed it’s almost incomprehensible to connect the two seamlessly. I still holding out hope for the tier though.
But the set bonuses leaning so hard into luck it makes Outlaw Rogue luck play style and Havoc reliance on Crit look like soft mechanics. The seeming variance in damage makes it feel like Blizzard themselves is gambling on whether this is going to be the last expansion they have to develop or not.
I’m reserving my complete judgement until we see the spell effects.
They’re what makes or breaks a lot of modern sets IMO, with the Warlock Nerub-ar set being pretty plain without the Shivarra arms or the eye on the helm.
Though IMO the Paladin set looks way better than the Nerub-ar paladin set.
Eh, the RNG variance is pretty overstated for DPS. Even if you fully stack the buff as Havoc that’s like what, 10% damage to Blade Dance/Chaos Strike and 10% crit when you enter Meta? If you don’t fully stack it and instead get say, 7 stacks on average, it’ll be 7%.
Dunno how impactful that’ll be when in raw numbers, but it’s not Roll the Bones level DPS variance.
TBH the only set bonuses that are truly egregious on the RNG are the Tank 2p, but that’s purely because activating most Wall CDs at random is completely useless. (Random metas for VDH is pretty good tho).
