Rules of Engagement: Classic Hardcore is Coming to World of Warcraft

In my opinion I think blizzard is doing a good job with this “hardcore” version of the game. With regard to the addon version of playing the game, you are playing a “hardcore Ironman”****version of wow. I put an asterisk because it’s not really a true HC ironman mode. True HC ironman mode for WOW should not allow any grouping for dungeons, use of AH, mailbox etc. If you were able to get to level 60 with these conditions you should be given a title, for ex “one man army” or something like that. The addon has flaws because it is trying to combine two separate game modes hardcore and ironman mode, to a game that is supposed to be flexible with grouping and having the help of other players throughout the leveling experience. I think a great way of looking at hardcore and ironman is osrs. Where hardcore is death related and ironman is group related.

“You can play your Softcore Hardcore mode on normal servers just enforce your 1 life there”

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

If you want to play a solo game mode how does anyone else’s gameplay affect YOUR experience.

My HC Paladin died at lvl 59 to scarlet elites in WPL playing by the addon rules.

I disconnected more than once and was able to log back in fast enough to survive. I’ve never agreed with the appeal system because your character now has more than 1 life which isn’t Hardcore. Had my character died to DC I would have deleted it.

“The Hardcore Challenge” is a community rules based game mode. So it’s not Blizzards rules.

Blizzards rules are no appeals at all for any reason. So yes, there are no Hardcore games that appeal deaths. It’s never happened.

Doesn’t make a difference to me at all since I am now invested in Era, HC is so 6months ago

The Hardcore Challenge isn’t even real HC.

We’re about to get the real deal.

Sorry to hear you lost a lvl 59 mate, that’s rough. I’m curious if you D/C on a flight and log back in to a death from falling do you still have the same opinion? For the longevity of the game I feel this convo is an important one. It’s one thing deleting a lvl 59, but in the above scenario would you reroll to potantially die again in a similar way? Personally I have died to D/C twice and did reroll, but this wears very thin after a few times and I think a lot if not most people will just walk away, which isn’t good for the longevity of the game.

Its legit if you actually follow the spirit and delete like you’re supposed to.

I think the differance between this scenario and what you’ve seen over the years is the need for video evidence to be able to appeal. I literally just watched an appeal video of a guy d/c on a flight and logged back in to fall death. If there isn’t a way to legitemately appeal verifiable “technical issue” deaths then it’s an issue that could ruin the game for many very quickly. If you haven’t yet, I suggest go to the ClassicHardcore website and at the bottom you can link the Discord. The appeals channel is very interesting to watch and I think you may enjoy the insight of d/c death videos that players are managing through the current appeals system.

If someone gets reported for wiping a dungeon every day, there’s a good chance it was intentional.

when did mankrik die? i thought it was THE horde megaserver?

Of course that’s inherently tainted by streamers since those are the people who are actually recording their gameplay and have incentives to game the system beyond just gaming the system.

Most players are recording while playing HC (because it’s the only means of appeal). Personally I buffer the last few mins and can capture it if needed, so it doesnt even take up storage space. Yes streamers do appeal, but the vast majority of appeals are just regular players not wanting to lose sometimes weeks of play time because the realms ARE and ALWAYS have been prone to random disconnects.

Who knows? :woman_shrugging:

Do you realize how out of touch that is with the average player? Recording your gameplay even if not streaming just to oppose a death that was likely your fault?

The random disconnects that result in a death are not nearly as common as you make them out to be.

Maybe you should just play a single player game if you want a game with all social interaction forbidden.

You’re 100% wrong. No, we don’t record random gameplay, but yes, if you’re serious about HC then you are recording. It’s literally free and even gpu ui’s have the option to replay buffer. I played for only around 100hrs game time and died to d/c twice. Every streamer I’ve watched has died to d/c. I’ve been in guilds to watch 10 people at a time die to ddos attacks or server crashes. There’s 100’s/day dc appeal posts in the HC discord. To say it’s not an issue…The reason the community based HC has an appeal process is because it’s needed.

One could take their chances at AV lol.

That can be honor bearing pve for either wow version really.

because blizzard likes to pretend the classic forums dont exist. they arent even moderated properly or at all at times. there arent any active mods for the classic forums. trolling and flaming is rampant there.

But it’s not… people just don’t die to DC’s often enough it’s needed. If you are maybe just get a better internet connection(or stop pulling your ethernet cord when it looks bad)

In the interviews today they said they are looking at ways to prevent “taxi deaths” if it bugs while you’re in taxi but the stance is still Perma death even if it’s DCs.

At the end of the day you acknowledge the fact that you are playing and ONLINE Hardcore game and you accept the terms upon character creation. This is the reality of playing an online Hardcore game.
