Ner’zhul was the first Lich King. The original lore was Ner’zhul simply needed Arthas as a vessel. He handpicked him from the day he was born and pupteered the events of WC3 to bring him to him on the Frozen Throne so he could finally be free.
So…still beatable.
Unbeatable means literally nothing can take him down. Something did. Just because we, as the players, had to have some sort of Deus Ex Machina plot device help us doesn’t mean he was unbeatable.
Arthas is dead. He was beatable.
Bliz lore, complete change coming soon to an expac near you!
In a SL cut scene it shows the jailer getting some new weapons plans which is the helm of domination and frostmourne so how did he get it to Azeroth…
They need to knock this crap off.
Ysera’s storyline in Legion was emotional. If it wasn’t for the fact we had to listen to Tyrande, it would have been perfect like Wrathgate.
However, this is what Blizzard did with that storyline when they brought Ysera back:

The end of Arthas was him dying in his father’s arms. It would be nice if it stayed that way.
i don’t think of him as a mindless pawn. i think of the relationship between the lich king and the jailer more similar to the relationship between morgoth and sauron in the lord of the rings series.
The pre-SL cinematic already
on the concept of the LK
Since we’re on this topic, whose soul is in Frostmourne?
Really makes you wonder.
Steve from Accounting.
By Jaina the Dreadlord.
“No king rules forever my son
This. I honestly hope we never see him again. And if we do its not for long. Both him and Illidan I got sick of almost immediately after being introduced.
The proper title is
Dreadlord Admiral Jaina
I never thought of that. Plot hole is so sad.
Good catch. This just makes it even worse.
BLIZZ themselves dont have the STORY figured out yet! May be ![]()
Oh…lore…never mind (goes back to crossword puzzle).
this was already explained before shadowlands was even a fart in the wind when kil’jaeden took a quick detour to torghast and stole them.
i mean, not stole. turns out the master of 5d chess, zovaal the ultimate supreme lord of everything evil in warcraft, planned for kil’jaeden to show up and take them.
because, yes, he’s psychic i guess.
This goes without saying. Really bummed we didn’t kill her in BFA.
I like how this canonically makes Saurfang more powerful than Lich King Bolvar.
Ohhhh heck I didn’t think about that now O_O
Frostmourne stole most of Arthas’s Soul leaving both a Soul remnant too weak to control the Body and an Autonomous Body that had his own agenda that ultimately led to said Soulless Body shoving both Ner’zhul and the last remnant of Arthas’s Soul into Frostmourne!
All that’s left of Lich King Arthas is Memory of Arthas who haunts those who hold the Blades of the Fallen Prince…
The Kyrians are ordered to bring Souls to Oribos not bring Sentient Memories there!
