Rsham sentiment: this spec BORING, pls help

I’m essentially continuing this from the beta thread since I have no idea how much longer that part of the forum is even going to be accessible.

“In Midnight, many specializations have undergone large changes in order to meet our design goals for the expansion. While the scope and full list of class updates are still being worked on, we are paying close attention to both internal metrics as well as player sentiment as we assess how to proceed.”

Surely blizzard you must know by now that the community sentiment around resto shaman is that; we very much dislike it, it’s the worst iteration ever, the spec is identity-less, the spec is extremely bland and boring, and it feels like there’s no identifiable core fantasy. Hell, many streamers and video makers who have played it and shown it live on the beta have said this also; it’s just plain boring.

We want our spec to be fun again. We’re a boring brain-dead healer with skyfury and a kick, that’s all we’re known for now. This spec has so many issues (see the various posts on the beta section if you still can).

There’s little to no interaction between our core abilities and that’s always been the case. However we had short CD buttons to cover up the lack of a real gameplay loop. Our loop was managing the short CDs and filling with wave/chain/surge, now most of our short CDs are gone and we’re just filling with wave or chain with no real engagement or interaction.

With the lack of changes, notes, tuning, and how recklessly the few changes recently have come, it feels as if it’s another demo warlock situation where yall just don’t want us to play the spec until you can rework it.

With the MANY MANY MANY MANY issues (mastery, core abilities not even being talented, the talent tree, apex, lack of intuitive gameplay, etc.) there’s a lot to work on and fix with a complete rework. Which we can only beg for in a major patch and hope that you see the sentiment behind resto shaman is that WE NEED HELP, THIS SPEC IS BORING BEYOND BELIEF. (yall made theun quit in alpha with these changes)

I highly doubt I’m the only one who feels this way, as it’s more rare (in my experience) to find someone who thinks resto is now in a good spot.

I don’t disagree, as a longtime RSham main.

But look at the bright side….

At least we aren’t Holy Priest.

I’d rather play BM Hunter than HPriest right now. Our HPriest brothers and sisters got annihilated.

What you have to understand is that they wanted to get more people into the healing role. So, naturally what they had to do was ruin the healing role

Kinda like what they did with the player base and target audience

Im just really confused because going into Midnight I thought Resto shaman was already one of the easiest healers to get into. Pruning cloudburst was 100% unnecessary and maybe some of the random cooldown abilities could have been pruned but they also pruned all the interesting passives like tide ringer and master of elements. The whole tree is just passive tuning it’s crazy.

we lost literally every single defensive … we have earth shield and astral shift now that’s it lmao i mainly pvp and it’s so lame i just die now when i’m focused … and how do we prevent damage ? they want us to reverse damage instead i guess … which is crazy consider dh melts people before my totems can even trigger

Go watch a Ret Paladin get dogpiled by 3 or 4 people and trigger multiple absorbs, passive and instant heals, layers of defensive cooldowns

Edit: forgot to mention that he also kills 2 of them, at least

and then think about how thats all fine and good, but we get one single defensive that cant be used while CCd

Yeah the pruning on resto shaman was brutal, especially on defensives as pointed out. It’s much harder to PvP as a shaman (all specs really) but especially for Resto since it’s easy to be focussed down. The apex talents are garbage because the proc rate on riptide is so low, they need to:

  1. Change it so that it can also proc off the HoT portion of riptide (maybe even at a lower proc chance with multiple riptide HoTs going)
  2. Take away the guaranteed proc from Nature’s Swiftness and put it on Unleash Life, this would allow it to be useable more often.

If they did both of these things and maybe reduced the healing power of the totem to be reasonable as compensation it would provide far better player agency around the apex talent and it would also significantly better balance it for Totemic as it greatly favours Farseer currently (30 second natures swiftness vs 1 min for Totemic and less charges of riptide with a longer cooldown for Totemic as well)

We lost everything…

Except we didn’t

That whiplash is enough to snap an elephants neck.

The class tree removed all the good stuff and left all the boring stuff. Double cap totem followed by an AOE knock up was some of the most fun I had in M+ with a healer. I’m rolling back to Druid after 2 seasons of loving resto shaman.

I come back almost each expansion to try out various characters and do raids/mythics. However, this recent pruning they have done doesn’t make any sense. Almost all of the classes seemed like they played pretty well and had a good identity in TWW. It’s absolutely terrible now. I do not understand how whoever developed the current set up can justify the changes. My RSham is no fun now. I really don’t understand how you can justify overhauling classes like this. It makes no sense. Did shamans just forget how to do things lore wise?

So I thought I would try out other healers and they are all just awkward now in their own way. To top it off, my hunter is even worse. What in the world is going on? Do the devs even play this game? They are going to find people mass leaving if we don’t enjoy playing any of the characters.

I have played them. I feel like es and ancestral were the main ones other then Stone Bulwark Totem and ancestral guidance I guess. Guess forgot about those since they never really felt like they helped to a noticable degree. MB

I miss healing surge… healing wave feels like it takes forever to cast and hardly does any healing.

  • Stone bulwark Totem
  • Ancestral Guidance
  • Having to choose between Healing Tide and Ascendance
  • Thunderstorm
  • Master of Elements now takes an exceedingly limited PvP talent slot to have
  • Much slower cast on Healing Wave versus Healing Surge
  • Totemic Recall
  • Earthen Wall Totem
  • 30s CD Wind shear, up from 12s
  • Earth Elemental duration slashed by half (30s from 1 minute)

RSham got absolutely gutted down to near unplayable status in PvP.

I have to agree, as much as I liked the changes they made in war within to shaman I dislike resto so much now. Storm Stream totem might be the worst apex talent I have seen It never procs when you need it and when it does you’re hoping it’s not gone by the time damage comes. Very boring spec right now. I really don’t know how this went live, but history tells us they always break resto at the start of the Xpac, start fixing it towards the middle and get it right towards the end. Hopefully they break the cycle.

Eh don’t play PVP. Not played it since BFA so its not really a thing to me but I guess I can understand it makes things harder.

The final apex talent makes Stormstream totem deterministic. You gain a use when you use either ancestral or nature’s swiftness. I personally like the apex talent and it’s pretty powerful.

Resto is in an odd state for sure, and frankly could use a rework but in the interim I think three changes would put it in a decent spot for PvE.

  1. Give Farseer a way to move healing rain.
  2. Reduce the mana cost of Chain Heal
  3. Slightly increase Chan Heal’s spell power.

Resto lacks an active AoE profile. Chain heal is mana cost prohibitive and slightly too weak in power to be reliable which hurts Totemic significantly, while healing rain is kneecapped for Farseer due to group / raid movement.

I’m so frustrated with what they did I’ve switched to restoration Druid. Rshammy has been completely gutted.

I haven’t seen anyone actually enjoying Rsham in midnight. The pruning seems to have went too far. I loved this spec because I loved having a ton of buttons to press.

I’m heavily debating on giving it a try or just jumping to rdruid like you are.

Exactly this! I loved all the utility, having a short cd interrupt, it felt like I could really manage the fights.

They’ve deleted all the good parts and for all of beta it was a mind numbing two button rotation. They’ve recently made some changes to make chain heal better but all the utility is still gone.

Rdruid is much more fun to play atm.

This makes me sad.
