I am in the process of writing out my draenei character’s journal entries. (it’s a whole new rewrite entirely because I haven’t actually RP’d in so long and all the people I played with are long gone) So, I am so in love with this new adventure and have put so much time and effort into it with journal entries and pics I have been making. But I am so frustrated as to where to put all of this into one site, that 1- allows long form writing, 2- allows picture additions, 3- community interaction.
I started on Dreamwidth. Dont like it. Discord doesnt allow me to do long form. The way I am going as of right now, it would almost be like a whole book or novel documentary. But I am so vested and want to share it properly with others the way its meant to be.
As of right now, I have the first year (from crash to Kalimdor) written. I still have a lot more to write to get her to the current time. On Dreamwidth, it’s about 60 posts, I think. And for clarity here, I am not a pro RP’er. It was very casual back in the day and never something as in-depth as this. I was disappointed when I came back to play and the RP forums are not what they used to be and that makes me so sad. And on alliance side most areas are ghost towns. Pretty shocking upon return. As I have been researching over the last couple of weeks, I just dont see where I can do this the way I want to for example “the life of Yelisa” book.
I hope this makes sense. Again, returning player as of February. I’ve actually been playing this game since it was a cd rom. It’s just that everything seems and feels so foreign now in game and within the server (WrA). It used to be so much more alive. So I guess now, RP is quiet and private which I find is such a shame. And this is why I am looking for suggestions as to what people are doing now outside of the game to be able to present a project like this.
I am having the same problem! It’s a fun hobby to have. I’m currently on page 12 of what is turning into an ongoing story around my char and I don’t know where to post it! Let me know if you find anything and I’ll let you know if I find anything!
I’ve look at discord, tumblr and dreamwidth so far. So those don’t fit my needs but what I did find is this listed below. The best combo I’ve seen so far is a blog for long form + discord for connecting/discussions.
Tumblr
Best for social long-form RP journals with images, tags, asks, and public interaction. Feels alive and active, but less organized for deep archives.
Dreamwidth
Best for classic RP journaling, threaded comments, and organized archives. Strong writing community, but older/slower feeling.
Discord
Best for live interaction, group RP, and community building. Weak for preserving long-form story archives.
WordPress
Best for creating a polished immersive “digital chronicle” with chapters, galleries, lore pages, and comments. More permanent and customizable.
Neocities
Best for handcrafted immersive worldspaces. Great for atmospheric lore archives, journals, maps, and creative presentation. Feels like old internet creativity.
Miraheze
Best for lore wiki/codex style projects with timelines, character pages, cultures, artifacts, and interconnected worldbuilding.
Obsidian Publish
Best for interconnected “living world” archives. Lets you link journal entries, characters, locations, memories, rituals, screenshots, and lore together like a web.
Carrd
Best lightweight option for creating a clean RP hub or character landing page that links out to journals, galleries, Discord, etc.
Notion
Best for structured organization and collaborative lore databases. Less immersive visually, but excellent for managing complex projects.
Toyhou.se
Popular among character-focused creators for galleries, profiles, lore storage, relationships, and visual storytelling. More character-centric than journal-centric.
Guilded
Similar to Discord but more structured for communities, with forums, calendars, media sections, and better organization for RP groups.
I’ve been meaning to start writing on this character since i main swapped and fell in love with mages and magic. Got some ideas but haven’t got the focus or means to put pen to paper.
Wordpress seems really tempting. Is it cringe to write a blog in 2026?
For me, Warcraft has always been a love. I’ve been playing off and on since the game was on a cd rom. (Yes, I am as ancient as the lore )
I have fallen in love with my draenei. So investing into her story, her people, their history is so fascinating to me. How I play her, what she thinks, what she does and why make it more fun to play. But more so.. I want to share her with others. I have this whole history for her and I think it’s so very neat, and honestly so cool.
And because this race is so alien to most of the world, as are the ethereals, to peak behind the curtains and see how one ordinary creature of such a society, in my opinion, is read worthy. Especially for anyone that might be interested
I may end up doing the blog personally. And also maybe a facebook. Cause WHY NOT?! Make her a real modern day influencer LOL Seriously, it’s one of my greatest hobbies in this life, one of my escapes. I’m still looking at the other sites. The material I have is a lot based on books and in game lore. So walking with her from birth to current times to me is a labor of love. And the lore around them has such depth, from the highest highs to the lowest lows. There’s so much to explore and expand upon.
I have other rp ideas for other alts too. This one has my attention for the time being. Most of my ideas I get from quests tbh. Imagine what this might have felt like to experience first hand? And most of them are tragic. That is WoW. lol who cares if it’s “cool” or not to blog. Share your creative side! There are definitely people here that would read it. And even if they don’t, do it for yourself. Nothing wrong with that at all.
Yeah Ao3 has always been a great place to serve as a companion lore holder for your RP characters. There is also always just making a tumblr blog for them too.
if i put something together, a site to host this… would there be any interest do you think? It sounds fun, and it’s in my wheelhouse. I’m new to the RP side, but not the technology side. Tell me what you’d like it to look like.
