“What do you make of it, Graves?”

Chief Idun’s voice was pleasant as gravel being flushed down a toilet on the best of days. And these were not the best of days. Enekie tried to keep that in mind as she flipped through the ransom note.

“Looks to have the same handwriting as our perp, chief,” she said.

“Great,” Idun sighed, disappearing behind her desk as she slumped in her chair. “The boys up at the Keep are going to throw the book at me.”

“Worse things in life.”

“They’re Paladins, Graves. Have you seen how big those books are?”

“Something doesn’t add up, though.” Enekie slid out of her chair, pouring another cup of coffee–and covertly adding a dash from her flask–as she glanced between the two notes in her hands. “Our perp’s gone from leaving behind naked dwarves to kidnapping? It doesn’t fit the pattern.”

“What pattern? He’s a Sin’dorei. They’re all crazy.”

“You do this job long enough, Chief, you start seeing that all Hordies follow the same road. First, it starts with the boasting, then with the minor crimes–flipping over fruit carts or leaving bodily fluids on doorsteps, then they get bold and start kidnapping. They only start killing once they’ve gone Full Lok’tar. And when they’ve gone Full Lok’tar, they don’t really write letters, anymore.”

“So what are you saying, Graves?” Idun lit a new cigar, her words coming out on a cloud of gray smoke. “He’s a renegade. We knew that.”

“I’m saying he’s not just a renegade, Chief. The nude dwarf, the kidnapping, the obsession with the Alliance–this isn’t some Grunt we’re dealing with. This guy is acting on instinct, fulfilling sick passions he had to keep under wraps in Silvermoon. We’ve seen this before.”

Idun’s face went stony. “We have, Graves. And the last time we did was the last time you were on the force. Don’t think you can’t do this by the books. We have order here in Stormwind.”

“We do, Chief.” Enekie tucked the letters into her coat as she headed for the door. “We’ve also got a maniac on the loose. And I’m not a member of the force anymore.”

Was Rav coming back soon? Where did the Orcs go? It had been pretty quiet since the elf woke up. The one orc left on babysitting duty was getting more laid back by the day yet Daeli couldn’t locate him and that worried her just a bit! Did he leave because the other one returned from his scouting?

Daeli rubbed her wrists and sat up. A quick scan of the area told her they were still in some woods or forestry area. Which one? Were they really on the way to the horde capital?? There was a lot of unaccounted time she bet she was unaware of how it was spent so a sea voyage was possible but doubtful. Dae had been made aware of what happened to the last victim; she really didn’t want to share the same fate. It seemed to close to being a possibility if they were still on the same landmass as Stormwind.

Weakly she stood up and tried to move around quietly. Though the elf hurt, Dae wasn’t going to give up easily. There would be a solution to this predicament soon; hopefully a very peaceful one.

Dae took a big chance to wander a little even if crudely contained like a dog on a tether. She spent some time picking berries and editable flowers and storing them in one of the orcs spare cups. She didn’t go to far considering certain restraints; yet she did try to discretely leave a little something in the underbrush. A piece of her torn skirt.

Daeli tired easily; nevertheless, the elf collected enough food to share before she returned to the center of camp to “her” spot. Dae had already been crafting a flower statue out of broken glass and ceramic shards for the orc’s misses back in org. The pieces were already laid out on a semi flat crate top. The other day the orc had promised to get her some more supplies for her gift she was working on for Rav… hopefully that would be completed before the dang elf returned. Was it tonight they would be traveling again?

Maybe kindness could still turn this horrible situation around, she thought while Dae enjoyed her found snack, moved pieces of broken glass around the crude table like a puzzle, and waited for the return of either orc or whomever.

Winter had already been out on a bounty when she had noticed the ruckus at Stormwind City. Granted she enjoyed when humans were made miserable but she helped the refugees of her kind as well as gave gold to the orphanages. In her dark blue and black armor she would walk around though with her a large black cobra and about eighty seven spiders small but deadly hidden in her armor to cause illusions to bring out peoples fear. Though hearing an elf got captured she heard the words void elf and kidnapping. Normally winter would not bother with it but she had noticed Dae was missing from the apartments and she couldn’t have her go missing since she was kind to winter. She picks up her bow and her creatures follow though Kaldorei would scowl at the huntress since she was not liked by her own kind or any one much as she heads out into the forests and where there are forests there are plenty of lovely little arachnids though big ones too. She had sent twenty ahead though commanded that at least ten stay hidden but near if they found her and the other ten to return and speak to winter of said location. Winter had followed the trail trusting her children to lead her though as she asked the trees and creatures around she was able to find a spot where it looked as if it had been slept on or had been used but it was old and cold. She would only stop and rest when absolutly needed as the serpent hissed and kept close to winter while Winter would look around with her silver eyes. She was careful to not be tracked as she learned to hide in the shadows concealing herself. If one were to see her they would see many little eyes staring back along with her own which in most cases unsettled people to move on. As she kept silent she kept on the trail…Winter had noticed her smaller spider a blue crystal looking pattern one had gone missing as if it had decided on its own to go searching “I am really going to have to make sure I count next before resting” Winter looked around and sent some to search for him too.

One of winters little blue spiders had found its way though it was much farther and a little smaller then the rest it would as it skittered along it had stopped finding creatures bigger then him. Green beasts made it hiss as it hid swiftly watching and waiting though upon searching this camp of green beasts it had noticed a purple creature wondering if that is what his mother searched for it had swiftly gotten close to her not letting itself be seen yet until it felt safe to do so it would jump out then hide again as this one was indecisive. It froze when the purple one would walk by it though he kept watching the green ones too. How ever its venom undeveloped fully all it can do is paralyze in one bite. It would keep its eye on the purple one.

Back in the forest Winter had her spiders spread knowing they can scan faster then her but she kept moving no rest. Her gut says she was headed the correct way due to some camp fires she found as she kept to the shadows during her search she had listened to the trees and animals following her spiders and soon came to she felt close but was unsure how close and looking to the sky she could see the animals change course making her alert moving swift though now wishing she had lighter armor or none as an Idea had struck her she changed out to a lighter kind sending her serpents home using a stone to portal them with her armor to her apartment she owned. She wore bandages for a top and her runes now visible on both arms keeping a dagger and her spiders moving a bit faster now feeling close due to her little spider that decided to sneak away

another f’ing day…

Moods were running rather rampart today. As much as the usually happy elf tried to be optimistic, Daeli was getting frustrated and annoyed with it all. It was the same thing day in and day out; horrible meals, a beating here or there, and back to being confined. Sure they were moving along to who knew where; it just wasn’t where Dae wanted to be.

The elf had busted her butt trying to get some orphan meetings and help get certain things done, how did those meetings go? She had been captured before the first one was set to take place. Where they still going on? Friendship Fundays seemed like the best idea to the elf. Daeli hoped she’d live through this to go to one… and she really hoped no one let the ball drop because the world really needed a lot more people helping each other out.

Her thoughts went to everything and anything. There was just way to much time for the elf to sit and think. The orc currently on guard duty was a %#$#$#$. Daeli could find good in just about anyone; except this vile creature. The pacifist had finally snapped, she lost it with him and managed to kick him where the sun didn’t shine. The beating she received after that had been the worst one to date.

Yet, she was still alive and still breathing even if it was labored.

This orc had picked up on her real fears of being confined and in closed spaces. He used that against her all to often. It was literally testing her limits and her willpower.

When light started to filter in through the small cracks of this cave she was stuck within, the elf smiled a little bit. She’d accept anything; the little spider she saw crawling about on the wall was a sign of hope. She wasn’t alone. Daeli was grateful for any presence; no life was to little to be important.

Dae fumbled for one of the few berries she had left in her pocket and freely offered it to the spider.

Here little guy, in case your hungry too. There isn’t anything to look at in here” she said in a quiet cheerful whisper to the spider. Dae wasn’t sure if he or she were poisonous or not; given the circumstances she really didn’t care. How much worse can it really get?

The little blue spider skittered over at first in zig zags then cautiously to her incase she had fear of arachnids. Though it chittered showing intelligence as it was attempting to tell her something as it pounced around though to be honest it was a baby so efforts were more adorable then the message it was trying to get. Though seeing the berry it nibbled thankful for food as it kept near her. This particular spider if it bit anyone would cause delusional behavior, sweats and babblying along with slight muscular paralysis.

Winter was closing in she could feel her child close as she sped up dagger in hand now being trained in all weaponry and close combat like the pandaren she kept up the pace her spiders following her though she would stop and hear something after a few days of traveling she found a camp of the orcs as she curses to herself had to be those damn things. Though they seemed agitated. She felt her child was here the little blue spider but not sure where. She stayed in the darkness of the woods waiting for them to fall sleep though incase she decided to move in before hand she stationed her spiders around her so all that any one would see is her silver eyes.

The little blue spider chittered more but got silent seeing the big green monster and hid but when pushed he will bite. He felt his momma close so he kept close to the little elfling that gave him the berry. It huddled waiting and watching the big green monster. While his mother just in the trees near them waited for the sun to shift as she watched like a hawk every movement in the encampment.

Daeli pouted a little bit when the spider scurried into a hiding spot. Desperately She wanted to keep the adorable critter; yet wouldn’t since Dae was not about to take freedom from another living being. Sure she had kept injured critters found along while traveling; it was only until they made a full recovery. It was to help them.

“yeah, I don’t like him much either. His personality has a stronger sense of sour and bitterness than a rotten apple!” she commented to the eight-legged critter about the nasty orc standing outside.

The elf sighed and turned around as she continued to pace inside her confined space. Shouldn’t they have left already? Was the $%@#% outside prolonging this spot because he was using this tiny cave as a cage?

She heard something going on outside. Was Rav back? the other orc? a new %^&#$@?

Dae bite her lip, kept walking around, it was her only other comfort besides the new spider, to keep her from curling up in a ball again to cry. She wasn’t going to give that orc another moment of satisfaction in her suffering.

Winter attacked the encampment she was impatient as spiders covered the area as she had only ninety of the small ones and about four the size of half a horse. She used a dagger like it was a dance. Screaming and rushing could be heard as she used their weapons against them dodging as if they were beginners.

The blue spider began to pounce around he knew who was outside as another spider but purple in color found him they played happy to find each other though they stayed together waiting for their mother as each chittered.

Winter was causing hell she changed direction going for the cave with the orc guard her children were in there she knew it and nothing was standing in her way. The dagger tied to a fishing strip she used it like a bladed whip. The orc guarding got ready for a blow seeing her coming as they rushed at her

The two spiders climbed the best they could to Dae lap pouncing around only to goofily fall they were very excited about something as Winter would push forward. Orcs were not a easy race to put down but she fought harder then they did her spiders easily eating those they could smother.

A large soft green spider with deep green stripes came at the guard way before winter attacking the guard fighting it best it could as it was young in itself but it was dog sized. It had caused the guard to fight it as it kept his attention.

The camp wasn’t a major one; there was enough supplies to take care of four or maybe six people comfortably. The friendly orc guard was nowhere to be seen. Earlier that day he had left to mail the art piece Dae had created for his wife and to restock up on some supplies at the local horde outpost at the entrance to Swamp of Sorrows.

Those left inside the camp for when Winter entered were shocked and surprised. After traveling with their captive for almost a month; the group had got pretty darn relaxed. Too relaxed for when the wild woman came bursting in with spiders! The orc on the outskirts saw his friend try to prepare for the oncoming attack and then go down. He didn’t try to save his comrade or anyone else in the camp… instead he turned to flee!

Whatever else happened behind him was a mystery; just like it was to Daeli who was still confined inside the small cave admiring the two adorable spiders. She heard something and tried to get a look through the cracks the light came through.

Is the d*** elf back?” she asked out loud, talking to the spiders.

She didn’t see anything except the fake bedroll she had stuffed with leaves in her body shape. Not that she was totally planning a temporary exit. There was also a note she had left with Rav’s finished gift.

Winter was taking blows but to her they were just new scars to add to her old. She cursed in common bashing as she went until a orc hit the entrance to the cave hard that it knocked him out cold. Winter fought as much off as she can with aid of her spiders though she then was panting after the hours of fighting the spiders spoke to her telling her what they found making her confused.

Back in the cave the two little spiders were getting overly excited the poor woman was probably trying to calm them down most likely though they both waited eagerly at the door knowing exactly who is outside.

Winter went to the specified cave entrance seeing the stone door and she moved it to the side letting it roll hitting some orcs on the way though with her body looking like hell she probably scared what was inside. Winter wore bandage wraps as a shirt and linen pants, was barefoot and her hair looked like a tornado hit it. She had many open wounds and gashs and probably about four daggers sticking out her arm and two in her leg as she stood there tilting her head the two baby spiders hauled butt and right up winter only to try and nuzzle her neck.

Winter peeked inside squating down as her spiders told her someone was in there but her silver eyes scanned looking around. Though she seemed to have forgotten a orc as it tried to sneak attack her but was cut short getting dog piled but a bunch of spiders as she looks back and shrugs then looks into the cave.

The two baby spiders went back to the elven woman and then back to winter while the other ones were backing into the forest though Winter spoke and it was a semi-gentle voice “Hello?”

Daeli blushed faintly and took a step forward. Anyone saying hello at this point was considered a dearly beloved friend and savior! At first, Dae didn’t really recognize Winter. The voice was very familiar but the look from inside the cave was so very different than how Dae seen her last. For that matter, Dae was likely a lot different than how Winter knew her.

She appeared to be a void elf; when in reality she was a blood elf that helped out at the apartment building they both had a residence within.

Tentatively Dae stepped forward, heartbroken that Winter appeared injured and those outside did not seem to fair any better. She really hoped no one was gravely injured.

Winter!” she finally said excitedly when it really dawned on her, who was standing at that cave entrance.

Are you okay? do you need help?” she asked. Odd that coming from her who was like in no real position to help much. Thankfully Dae had recently showered the other day when the nice orc had brought her a change of clothes and other female things.

“Dae what are you doing in a horde encampment?” Winter was confused sure she had cuts, gashs and probably a few daggers sticking out of her but she felt fine “I will heal back at the apartments lets get you out of here.” She looked around the spiders headed into the forest and so Winter picked Dae up like she was paper wieght. The spiders followed her as she dove into the darkness in the woods.

The spiders as they ran, rather the smaller ones, clogged winters injuries to prevent a trail as she didn’t stop until she was far enough away they stopped so winter could rest with Dae in her arms she glances her small frame “Are you alright?” Winter kept ahold of her as she felt they should keep going but wanted to make sure to unbind her if there were any then hoists her up as she began to walk not waiting for a answer but she kept at a steady speed to get back to alliance territory keeping to the shadows.

Back at the camp the horde either died by spider poison or were beaten so bad they just could not moves. If their boss would to see them being weak she was sure they would die from his wrath.

Winter kept carrying dae through the forests it took a few days but only stopped to sleep, eat then move but she didn’t let dae walk incase she had fractures as orcs were not ones for gentle nature until you have befriended one. “I am sorry you had to see that…” Winter finally said to break the silence

The gift for Rav was left behind with the bedroll stuffed with leaves in Dae’s shape. It was a carefully wrapped stain glass mosaic sun-catcher that had a bee buzzing around the top of a flower and the word “nice” on the bottom.

The note: "I’m sorry you are reading this but I hope you understand, I had to go for a little bit. As charming as some of you have been the food isn’t that great. I also really have to do some things that I can’t let someone else do! I guess if you really need my company again, we can talk about that. You all have to be a lot nicer! Need a great place to learn how to be nice at AND has delicious food? The Darkmoon Faire! Love, Daeli "

Daeli was to tired, excited, and overall overwhelmed with conflicting emotions. She was grateful Winter was relatively healthy; yet still greatly concerned for the orcs. The gruesome scene she had been carried through didn’t look to promising for anyone.

The elf managed mostly coherent answers to Winter’s questions. The days seemed long; Dae was feeling physically better with each new sunrise.

"I’m sorry it ever happened. Why do people have to be so foolish to think kidnapping people will matter?" she asked quietly, solemnly and kicked her bare-feet in the dirt.

“unless its Like a King or a Warchief, or even a general I suppose… they matter and people will rally to get them. But a common person? do they really know anything more than what a cloaked person could find out with peaceful methods in a city?”
