This thread went places. Not good places.
It’s fine to have an opinion on what you like or don’t like. It’s not fine to start telling people they’ll look silly if they do something that you don’t like or don’t find acceptable.
If you don’t like to get negative attention from saying something like this, then be careful with what you say. In the immortal words of Will Smith in Men in Black, “Don’t start nothing, won’t be nothing.”

It’s funny how people always act so surprised when they go onto a public forums for a server that’s largely leaning in a very specific direction and get yelled at for saying things like, “I don’t think they should openly announce their presence.”
You may not be advocating for worse, but bigotry is bigotry, yo. “I don’t think they should openly announce their presence.” is missing the point of why they want to so hard it’s baffling. Imagine being persecuted for a majority of your life and in some area’s being at literal risk, then going into your form of entertainment and being mocked for daring to want to exist openly as who you are, or as a representation of who you are.
What is wrong with some of you people?

This is what I’m criticizing above. When I was active earlier this year, I recall Tamanii calmly trying to reach the other side on more than one occasion in order to carefully have a dialogue. In response, she was seen as somehow being in the wrong for it. Let’s be clear: she’s not being Centrist or All Lives Matter. She’s doing difficult work that is often criticized because people think it’s centrist at face value. I’m fairly certain Tamanii recognizes that Vile’s comment is not great. I recognize it’s Not Great, Too because I’m Not Straight. You really do not need to paint the picture of persecution to me on this matter.
If someone deems it worthy to reach out to someone like Vile in order to talk to them, so be it. Maybe something good will come out of that – maybe Vile will change his opinion, or at least open up to the possibility. That isn’t to say you or anyone else has to entertain that conversation. You don’t. However, when people near spam “bigotry” in replies, nothing is actually gained.

If people like Vile cant be human enough to recognize people different than him exist than I have no interest in engaging with him like a human

You’re dehumanizing the guy with this statement in the way authoritarians regularly dehumanize lgbtq, religious minorities, and ethnicities across the world. “If he can’t be human enough.” The player is assuredly human despite his skeletal avatar. Adopting those tactics will not save us because it will be lethally turned against us faster than we can counter. Anger is understandable, but I hope you know anger at someone like Tamanii is not.

Am I trolling that I think saying someone is “not human” is bad? No, I’m not trolling. I don’t think calling anyone’s human-ness into question is ever a good tactic specifically because fascists will do it better and more aggressively than marginalized people can, and marginalized people will always pay the price in the end.

Queer people are under absolutely no obligation to be kind to those who would deny their essential humanity and demand they hide themselves from sight.
If some tepid weakling tells me that my identity is objectionable on any level… I have no duty whatsoever to concern myself with that person’s humanity after they have just dismissed mine.
This is not up for argument. Anyone challenging this should quite honestly be considered untrustworthy at the very least.

Oh right, I’ll admit to barely skimming posts so I’ll apologize on the forefront if we’ve already covered.
Communication is a tricky but paramount endeavor, whether through ignorance or accident choosing to use the wrong words to convey an idea or not using enough words to cover the depth of your intent is on you. That’s just what happens when you contribute your ideas to, well, anyone.
Not to mention we live in an era of grotesque misinformation campaigning, dishonest debate, outright malicious attacks protected exclusively through anonymity / corporate self serving.
The idea that people are overactive in their vigilance is quite frankly hilarious. Not because it’s wholly incorrect, but because it’s completely due regardless.

The whole notion that indicating your characters orientation in TRP is tantamount to asking fro graphic erp has far too much in common with “homosexuality is a perversion” to be a coincidence.
Add this with the fact that Vile seemed to think WrA and MG is brimming with lewd profiles and it paints a very specific picture.

I think it mostly comes down to what we sort of identified at the beginning of the thread. That being, some people like reading a lot about characters and some people want it to be a quick means of learning what you need to learn to interact.
There are some things in a profile people wouldn’t know immediately by seeing the character. But some people like to read it. Some people like large histories and read it like reading a novel. There are even people who don’t role play and just like to do purely this.
This is for fun, always. And if you enjoy that kind of thing, and like sharing your own detailed profile with other people, go for it. Not everyone is the same and tastes will vary.
You can’t really win them all and make the perfect profile everyone will love. But you can aim it towards the audience you personally want to attract.

That’s not what Taalva was doing. They were saying “being human” in the sense of “having compassion and empathy for other people,” not “being literally of a lower breed, birth, or race.”
You’re misinterpreting a pretty common and largely banal saying in order to paint a false equivalency, which is why people are saying that
