It is just odd that at one point they said your high elven brethren. which would mean high elfs but after they said just brethren again that throws me off. Again feel free to disagree.
When did tyrande say high elfs in kalimdor? It is not at that time stamp you posted earlier.
Yes, Tyrande used ‘brethren’ when speaking to Maiev. Maiev used ‘High Elven brethren’ when speaking directly to Kael.
It strikes me as a little weird though, considering Malfurion had just told Tyrande and Maiev that both human and elven kingdoms on the eastern kingdoms were consumed by the scourge. Malfurion also made a point of differing between the Humans and High Elves, despite grouping them together as ‘The Alliance’ here.
That was a reference to the aftermath of the War of the Ancients, when Dath’remar (The Highborne - later High Elves) were exiled for using arcane magic. Tyrande was there when Malfurion exiled them.
Ion’s words were that Blood Elves pretty much were High Elves. Not that High Elves were Blood Elves. There’s a difference, because not all High Elves are Blood Elves.
If you want another Ion quote, he said Blood Elves had, ‘evolved past blue eyes,’ and would not receive blue eyes as customization options. For what it’s worth, he’s not exactly the most reliable guy to quote where the lore is concerned to begin with. Pretty sure he also brought us such hits as, ‘Zandalari dino druids wouldn’t make sense,’ about a week before Zandalari dino druid forms were datamined.
It is obvious that he is neither a lore guy or a storyteller, nor are any on the story team for that matter - considering how they appearantly decided the golden eyes should work.
Not all of the High Elves were ignorant of their past. In fact a contingent of them paid a visit to Dalaran to tell them to knock it off with their careless use of magic, telling them the history of the War of the Ancients. (leaving out no doubt, certain embarrasing details) Rather than police themselves, the magi decided to create Guardians to do their dirty work for them.
So while the general public was kept ignorant of their Kalimdor past, the uppermost echelon had people that never forgot.
Wasn’t even that thousands of years prior to WC1? I’m assuming you’re talking about the manga.
In any case Nathanos had to have a dozen former comrades murdered to get his hands on a document that was only a few decades old at most and related to his personal history. Whatever he had to do to find out about night elves, even if it was just have a conversation with Sylvanas, it warrants more attention than none at all.
This was all also just Sylvanas narrating to Anduin what she wanted him to hear, so it could amount to nothing but a playful quip Sylvanas made up to humanize Nathanos to Anduin as part of her ploy to get him to side with her.
The high elves are aware of their past with the night elves and the existence of Kalimdor. A group even ventured there as recently as a few hundred years ago.
That said, there’s a legend that existed in Lordaeron that Khadgar tells Medivh. After he is told the true history of the war of the ancients and hear the word Kalimdor. That the myth in Lordaeron is about how in ancient times an evil race meddled with great power, and as punishment their land was broken apart, and their land was called Kalimdor.
So it clearly exists as twisted myths among the humans. That said it seems that the current Kalimdor seems to be unknown to the humans, Arthas was also not even aware of what a night elf was or that they were the ancestors of the high elves for example. And such information should have been unknown to humans outside of some fringe individuals.
And it does come off kinda weird that Nathanos know not only what a night elf is, but that they’re the ancestors of the high elves when that’s a fact not even Arthas or Khadgar knew. Not to mention Nathanos even knew that they were taller than High elves! Not to mention the origin of the Sunwell and vial, and even how it came into the possession of the high elves. I gotta say, he must be a good spy to know these things.
Also, keep in mind that Kalimdor was shrouded by a heavy mist since the banishment of the highborne up to the third war. Making it very isolated, hard to get to, and even well discover if you don’t know it’s there.
That is all we can indeed get out of it, considering things happen.
I would chalk it up to Blizzard being unaware of the actual lore (I am also set on believing this is the actual reason Nathanos knows), but it is written. Nathanos somehow managed to get a hold of the information.
Nathanos spent more time with the elves than any other Human had done previously or since. Stands to reason nosy jerk that he is, he might find out some things. Especially if posters claim that it’s not that uncommon knowledge in Quel’thelas.
What’s up, BREEEEETHERN? Coming at you live from the sunny slopes of Northern Kalimdor, it’s a grudge match TEN THOUSAND YEARS in the making! Yes, the rematch between the forces of the kaldoreiiiiii and the Burning Legion!
I’ve got to say it’s not looking good for the plucky defenders. They’re outmatched! They’re frankly outclassed! Yes it would take a miracle for the home team t–
Oh my giddy aunt Sarah! I DO NOT BELIEVE MY EYES! Folks, this is a real twist! A doozie! POETIC REVERSAL IN Accccccction! The very species that was supposed to weaken this world has showed up to defend it! Oh WOW! Oh jeeze!
