My brother insisted we play on PvP. He is a WoW veteran and argued that “All the good players are on PvP servers. You don’t want to raid with PvE players.” – As if WoW classic raids are difficult.
In hindsight he was 100% wrong. Our entire group quit long before Phase 2 – after having hours wasted by meaningless ganks. He is the only one still playing and deeply regrets forcing us to play PvP.
WoW veterans are elitist to a fault. Don’t pay any mind to their opinions. They are some of the biggest and most selfish clowns in gaming. What’s best for them is never what’s best for you.
too many try hard friends roll pvp which makes people think they have to roll with them, and then their friends see them rolling it so they also feel the preassure etc etc
I rolled PVE on SOD and ill never do a PVP server again. Hell I am not even interested in Ashes because its pvp focused without a pve mode option
I have tried to convince new players to roll on PvE realms or play on WMC (era pvp) or Mankirk (Era PVE) so they could have a chill experience and actually play a game without all the gold buyers and FOMO that ruin games.
If you and your brother are indeed looking for a super chill experience the Mankirk-Era PVE server is uber chill, and the Whitemane-Era pvp server is also super chill.
If you’re not in a rush, and you want to savor the game and see it all then come to classic Era where your progress is not erased by TBC in 11 months.
There’s this myth that people who roll on pve servers don’t like (or are scared of) pvp. It’s not true. Sure some people don’t enjoy that aspect of gameplay, like how some people don’t raid and some people don’t read quest text, and some people don’t like to group. However many, many people on the pve server enjoy pvp and are looking forward to organized pvp. They are already discussing builds, gear and strategies.
What they don’t like is: ganking and being ganked. That’s all.
Rolled a pve server this time around because I don’t want to waste time on random PvP skirmishes. I miss it sometimes but on the other hand I don’t want to add an extra thirty minutes trying to farm and get a quest done. I was a PvP realm only guy before I had a lot of obligations but now life has changed. Can’t wait for bgs!
Me and my brother, life long PvP server dwellers on retail, rolled on Kirtonos PvP as ally the first time around in 2019. Big mistake. As ally we were outnumbered and phase 2 just killed all the joy. There were maybe one or two fun encounters, but 99% was just annoying griefing. Rolled PvE server this time around and having zero regrets.
PvP server might have a smidge more camaraderie among the players of the same faction due to the common threat. But all the problems outweigh it.
As others have said, play how you want. The reality is almost all PvP done by almost all players will be in BGs and everyone is mixed for those. While there is some world PvP, the vast majority of it you will likely find will be higher level gankers running around low level zones, or griefers trying to kill people heading to dungeons and raids.
So if watching your back on every pull isn’t for you, pick the PvE server you will be happier, if you love the challenge and thrill of having someone jump you mid fight, ganking, or if you actually plan to world PvP go for the PvP server.
Hillsbrad was absolutely insane on Dreamscythe today. DM was pretty spicy too. People who want to PvP can and do. And then when we’re done and want to do other things, no one can run up in our faces picking a fight and wasting our time. It’s a great way to live.
We can’t call PvP servers “PvP servers” because the community themselves creates mono-faction servers because “PvP players from PvP servers” are 99% →
the main reason we had so much mono-faction servers(pvp) is because
Horde have shamans > paladins
Hardiness, WOTF > Alliance racials
Alliance got ZERO stun resist, horde got 5 classes with 25% resist and more for some warrior who use the talent → this racial alone provide a billion of micro-actions that gives advantage to horde
Of course we can. It’s just completely inaccurate to call PVP servers PVE servers because of any ideological stance on faction balance. That absolutely does not make any difference to the technical functionality of a PVP server.
It’s a ridiculous claim, and disinformation that someone might actually believe. You may have some political or emotional belief that faction balance matters (and maybe it does to you) for PVP, but it doesn’t. Of course, for those who enjoy WPVP, and also a more traditional or old school community feel, then rolling the 1% faction on a 99% (according to raid log data) server can be an excellent experience.
Sure, and to be certain, I understand the reason people make the statement. However, it is inaccurate and many people seem to believe and proliferate information they read on the Internet, including the forums.
It is an inaccurate statement to claim that a PVP server is not a PVP server. And all anyone who makes this claim has to do to prove that to themselves is roll on the lesser faction.
Horde got huge advantage in Vanilla with the knowledge of today’s players, most of us are not naive 12-17yo
A horde warrior who benefit from windfury totem is a beast compared to alliance warriors
I used to MindControll a warrior or a shaman with my alliance priest in a BG, i just oneshoted his horde mate with his own windfury, most horde don’t realize they got huge advantage in their basic toolkit
