One of my favorite things to do in-game is work on my achievements. And while it’s not a big deal that many of them offer no kind of reward, each person has a set number of achievement points they’ve accrued over the years.
But those points are not being used for anything. They just add up and sit there. Has any thought ever been given to ways in which these could be redeemed, and what they can be redeemed on?
EDIT: Yes, I am aware that many achievements do offer mounts, pets, titles and other things as rewards.
Yes, I understand that. My point was on the usefulness/uselessness of the points themselves. I see no point in offering points if there’s no point to having them. So I agree, they are, at the moment, “look at me” points. My thoughts are about finding a way to put those points to use.
You want a system where you get an achievement, it gives you a currency so you can purchase things at a vendor?
Considering there are some people close to cap for achievements, and knowing Blizzard such a system would be non retroactive, that means some people would have to do some incredibly challenging/time consuming achievement hunting all over again. And most of those types of achievements already reward a title, pet, toy, mount etc.
I don’t think this needs to be a system, personally.
I think in essence that’s what it would be. I guess I’m just wondering why a numerical value is attributed every time an achievement is earned, if there’s no purpose to that number.
And yes, I get many achievements already offer mounts and such for rewards. I alluded to that.
My point is more, so I have 5,000 achievement points. Great. Awesome.
What do I do with them? What do I do with those points?
found the article we could spend the points
Players may complete more than 800 achievements upon release of Wrath of the Lich King. Some achievements award points which will be used as a currency for rewards that have not yet been revealed.
I have no idea, I don’t play FF14 or any other games.
And no, I’m not saying you get a currency based on number of points.
I’m saying if completing achievements rewards you with points, there should be a place or way to spend those points. Otherwise- what is their purpose besides sitting there to look at?
There is a purpose though. It shows how much progress you have made as an individual, and you can compare that to other players. It is just a trophy system like most video games have. I don’t think it really needs to be anything more beyond that. The complicated/difficult/time consuming achievements usually reward an appropriate reward as it is.
I have made the suggestion a bunch of times over the years.
Not that they should be spent, but there should be a vendor that sells cosmetic items, the vendor would behave like a PvP vendor and only sell you items that you were eligible to purchase depending on your rating/score. There could be pets and mounts at the larger breakpoints, with a bunch of mog and stuff sprinkled in-between.
There’s a minipet that you can only buy if you have 1 million gold in your bags.
Maybe they could do similar with achieve points. If you have 10k, you can go to a vendor and get a minipet or something. That way youre not actually spending your achievement points.
i do have it and the good thing is you dont loose the 1million gold
if you have 500k and your bud has 500k you can get the pet once they trade the gold
Ah yes- thank you. I had never seen this before. So it was something they had considered. I wish they would have stayed with that.
But I guess it’s just me who feels this way
Well… I can’t argue that
Maybe this is my issue. I am strictly a solo player. So do people actually do that? Do they compare achievement points and battle each other on who gets more points?
I like that idea. Kind of like a reward for each level of achievement points you earn. That would be cool and perhaps a better use for them.
