Easiest solution is to also need on it then have them pick the lock if you win.
A lockbox is not the same as a mining node. The miner is the only one who can access it in the dungeon whereas we are not the only one who can open the lockbox. People always get rogues in cities to open them later.
We literally have a class quest for training in lockpicking. We can also obtain lockboxes from pick pocket, a rogue exclusive ability. Lockboxes are literally designed for rogues.
And again: We do not pass up Righteous Orbs to the people with those specific professions.
A dropped item is not the same as a node that can’t be taken out of the dungeon.
on my rogue I only ever hit greed on those. Never seen anyone need roll one on anything
And yet some people demand we open locked chests in dungeons for them as well. 
When I did this once, a nice BS opened it for me, with one for their keys, and I still tipped them.

I don’t roll need on Lockboxes in dungeons. It’s tasteless for anyone to do so.
They both involve locked items. If you are capable of unlocking, roll need. If not, roll greed.
To be fair leveling lockpicking was always extremely annoying, especially before 125

Rogues should be rolling need on lockbox. You’re just lucky that they are being overly polite and not doing it. They have every right to do so. You have no right to be upset about it if they do.
The idea that this is “tasteless” is absurd and pathetic. If you feel that way then you have no right to need on anything whatsoever in an instance. It would be tasteless.
You should need on recipes that drop for a profession you have too. It’s absolutely no different. People shouldn’t have to buy these recipes from others when they are dropping for them.
A lot of you people have no idea how this whole thing should be working.
On many occasions I’ve outright told rogues, “You are absolutely welcome to need on that box and any others that drop”.

I’ve never had anyone complain over my needing on LW patterns as a LW. For some reason, some people feel entitled to lock boxes and chests when they can’t open them though.

If they need it for lockpicking they can ask the winner to pick it via trade.
Because everyone can access the loot inside of it. It’s not like you can get a leatherworker to teach you a recipe when you’re not a leatherworker yourself.
They’re not remotely comparable.
I view the loot inside as compensation for leveling up lockpicking which is a real pain in the rear.
