I remember in vanilla retail, as a warrior I was expected to tank and any DPS gear I got was by accident. So for Classic I rolled rogue.
Now I can’t get gear because every warrior rolls on DPS leather. I’ve lost my BiS to plate wearers so many times I’m giving up trying to get geared. Just going to do pug raids and hope for the best.
I remember when Pallies needed to roll on cloth for int itemization, they ALWAYS asked permission first. What happened?

Many warriors in classic now are trying to take advantage of Blizzards piss poor itemization. If you hadn’t noticed, MOST of the most valuable boe epics are warrior/rogue loot. Krol Blade, edgemasters. Etc. There is only 1 somewhat valuable item warriors and rogues won’t use, Warden’s staff.
So those who know, rolled warrior to try to stake claim over those gold makers. Of course the rest of us aren’t stupid and everyone rolls need so it didn’t work out for them, but that sense of entitlement carries over to mail/leather dps gear as well.

Thats bull because it would have gotten you kicked from a dungeon and flamed on realm forums for bs like that. Pallies ASKED to roll on cloth pieces, druid tanks ASKED to roll on crit gear.

Lol no. It happened everywhere, all the time. This is not a private server thing either. Why do people remember things so badly? Warriors rolling on leather was a constant argument on the vanilla forums.

Sorry to say man but many leather items are actually great for dps warriors as well.
They have plenty of plate to wear. It’s not leather wearers fault that DPS plate is poorly itemized until Naxx.

Doesn’t matter, if they can wear it then it’s fair game. There’s no rule saying dps warriors should pass on leather for rolls. Such is vanilla sadly. TBC improves this somewhat (still an issue but not quite as bad) and as the expansions went along this definitely was resolved.
What happened is a 15 year time gap that helped people realize that the plate pieces they were rolling on back in vanilla are garbage compared to leather for dps purposes.
They fixed this in later xpacs, by itemizing pieces better, changing what stats do for classes, and incentivizing wearing your given armor type.
But this is vanilla, so it is what it is.
Never remember seeing so many warriors in leather, it’s good don’t get me wrong but I would never roll need on leather if a rogue was in the group. Same reason I’m sticking to 2h, easier to obtain and let the rogues get the 1hers.
I think everyone’s experience in vanilla will be a mixed bag. Some players knew that leather was better and stacked it, or just ended up picking up a few pieces. Information wasn’t as widespread back then.
Me? I never considered it, not for flavor reasons but just being a teen playing his first MMO and thinking the only items I should ever wear are plate. Although eventually went full pvp so I was wearing all the pvp gear anyways.
What happened is people got better at the game and understood how it works. You’re not entitled to gear that is also an upgrade for some one else. If you want to give up on gearing because you have competition, then you should probably just give up because your personality lacks persistence.
thats just because melee get the most out of weapon upgrades. there are caster boes but they naturally are not as sought after as melee weapons

You either forgot what Vanilla was like or you never played it.
Form your own group where the tank doesn’t want your gear… or join a guild that will help you.
You guys can insult me all you want but nobody did that on my server without asking permission.
You don’t roll on gear made for another class unless nobody else needs. Those were the rules I thought everybody played by. Guess I was wrong.
Because some servers weren’t as progressive as others. On mine it was bad to roll on cloth as a leather wearer. Same for plate to leather. I went into mc with wildheart because I thought it was what i was supposed to get.
Some competition would be other rogues and the occasional druid. Not ever melee class in the game. And I’m not giving up on gearing, I’m just wondering why I’m putting myself through this when every night people are taking 59s in greens into MC and Ony and clearing.
Not everyone is taking 59s into mc in greens. I know the tanks aren’t. Top guilds require prebis. And yeah rogues and warriors share a lot of gear till mc. Then its mostly just weapons. Maybe do more research on classic before choosing a class.
