Not a lot of context here, but you can go test it yourself. The macro adds no additional functionality over Sinister Strike straight out of your spellbook.

Wrong! I use /startattack macros on my warrior and even if I don’t have the resource to use the paired ability, it still starts my auto attacks.

Except it starts your auto-attack and keeps your highest level spell on your action bar.

I mean you can just say “wrong” all you want. I just tested this with multiple combinations of the commands in the macro and it simply does not work if you don’t have the energy to cast it.

If you put /startattack BEFORE the ability in the macro, it starts your auto attack before it even tries to use pair ability.

Nope. Just tested and it does not.

edit: to clarify, it does not if you do not have the energy for the ability.

I’ll also add that 2 friends have just tested /statattack macros on their Druid & Warrior and it also does not start attacking if you don’t have resources for the macro’d ability.

I get it. I used to use these macros in Vanilla as well and thought they worked, but they don’t function the same way in Classic right now.

Guess I’ll have to make a video to show you it works because I just tested it on both a rogue and a warrior.

What’s your exact macro for the Rogue? I’ve tested with /startattack on the first, second, or third line and nothing works.

When I have no energy and auto attack is off, the macro does not start attacking.

Yeah, just copied and pasted that exactly. No energy = no /startattack.

I’d like to see a video if you can make one. I can’t imagine anything is interfering with my client AND 2 friend’s clients that stops this from working.

Are you trying to use it near an enemy mob? If you’re not then nothing happens because there is nothing to target to start auto attack.

I am doing this:

  • Fight a mob standing directly in front of me.
  • Sinister Strike until out of energy.
  • Turn off auto attack.
  • Hit the macro.

The macro does not start my auto attack again until I have enough energy to cast Sinister Strike.

Here is the video of me using the macro. If you look closely, you see me turn auto attack off at 0 energy and hit the macro and auto attack started back up.

EDIT: There was commentary on the video but I didn’t realize my mic was muted until after the upload.

Thanks for the video. I disabled everything that I could in-game and retried and it does indeed work now.

Moral of the story, there’s probably an add-on breaking /startattack in macros somehow, so if it doesn’t work for anybody else, check that.

Update: I disabled all add-ons, re-enabled them, restarted the game, and the macros are still working. I have no idea if something weird was cached or what. Before this, the macros were not working for weeks.

Welp…It’s not working for me. Clearly it works because people have it working, and the OP managed to get it work by turning off an addon it seems, but I have tried with all addons off and it wont work for me.
