Rise of Azshara Experiences So Far

PLEASE FIX ARCANE MAGE. IT’S GARBAGE AND NEEDS TO BE REWORKED. ESPECIALLY WITH QUEEN AZSHARA(master of the arcane btw) HAVING HER OWN RAID NOW. I THOUGHT THE SPEC WOULD BE REVAMPED. LIKE YOU GUYS DID WITH SHADOW PRIEST,ELE SHAMAN AND DEMO WARLOCK. PLEASE FIX ARCANE. MAKE IT INTERESTING AND FUN TO PLAY LIKE IT WAS IN LEGION. BRING BACK MARK OF ALUNETH. PLEASE!!!

I am enjoying it! The two new zones are very nice. Flying was easy to get. All the little secret places, mounts, toys and pets are wonderful. I like the puzzle quests. Its a nice change from the normal WQs. Well done!

Personally, when the patch arrived I was still flying arround getting burning blossoms to buy heirloom upgrades, when midsummer festival ended I went to Nazjatar…got so infuriated by the stupidly over stacked (specialy in the naga and the crab cave areas), over narrow pathed, over healthied mobs and how much long I have to wait for people to show up to kill rares that I felt so disgusted of it and took some days off the game just to go back and have that feeling fortified. Havent even logged in the game since.

–why eveytime i log in the forum theres a different toon set as default?–

I haven’t really liked BfA from the get-go, but after about a week of 8.2, I finally quit. I realized that I was doing the same thing over and over and over, day in, day out across up to 18 characters, hoping one of them might win the RNG lotto. But really, for all the “content” that was promised, it’s just a bunch of dailies. Just not feeling it

No need. We got selfie cams in game now.

Honestly I should have seen the writing on the wall back then.

I feel like that was when we flipped the switch from discreet retention based systems, to just full-blown unabashed ones.

8.2 is alright. I’ll just chime in to be another data point.

To note, I’m a roleplayer who pays $15/mo to pretend to be an elf online, so as long as I can do that, I’m pretty decently happy. You can say I’m proud to be a casual. Additionally, I work a 40+ hr/wk job. So, after leaving early and getting home late, the last thing I want is to feel like I have another “job” to do. Which feels like a lot of these zones.

Nazjatar

I didn’t like it at first. It feels like it takes waaaay too long to get all the content done. I don’t have flying yet. Everything is spread out all over the zone, and the terrain of the zone makes me feel like I’m trying to run through one of those 4D puzzle-games. I.E. it makes my head hurt.

Now, I’ve gotten use to the terrain and have all my FPs, so it’s marginally better, but it still sucks having some objective 10 ft away, but up 100 ft of coral that I have to ascend.

The followers talk too much, and I usually hate everything they say.

The quests aren’t incredibly engaging, daily or storyline. The first quest was awesome, but after that, just more of the same. “Go here, get this, kill this, because the plot demands it.”

I got my butt handed to me by some of the questing mobs, but that made me think, “I need to group with my guild to do this”. After my initial frustration, that made Nazjatar a lot more fun for me. It’s pushing me to reach out to groups. So… kinda a headache because that’s not been the status-quo for a long time, but enjoyable in that regards.

On the whole, cast my vote in with the “More of the Same” lot. Having a lot to do is nice, but I feel like I can’t get to it within less than an hour on any character, so I can only really focus on my main. It has some events that crop up, but they’re too sparse and over too quickly to really impact game-play that much.

Mechagon

Definitely a shining jewel. My favorite part is everyone calling out where the rares are. Probably because you can’t solo a rare, and there isn’t any group finder for them, and they feel more like events. This is some awesome game design and really builds a sense of community. Doubly so that they reset daily, and you need their drops to help work towards a long list of things. Everything gives you progress to an end-goal.

I love how much there is to do, and what I love about it is that it can be done in small chunks. I’m trying to get the meta-achievement, so this laundry list is great. I feel like there’s a lot to work towards at my own pace.

Inventory is forever full. It might have been better to implement a few things as a currency. Or give an extra slot bag for Mechagon. I’m not sure.

My only complaint is that, other than your trinket, you can’t get any real armor upgrades from Mechagon. It’s forcing me back to Nazjatar, and I like Mechagon a lot more.

So yeah, there’s a lot of learnings from Mechagon, and the Blizz team would do great to really spend some time studying what happened there and why players like it.

Azerite Essences

Meh. It’s nice having an extra spell, but I feel like I’ll only ever have the one slot. Again, I’m a casual player, so it’s definitely a system focused on rewarding those who put their time in, i.e., not me. I don’t like having to unlock the same traits on every alt. And I don’t like that advancing your heart is hidden behind so much AP grinding, which again, has to be repeated across every alt. If they’re unlocked via some in-game achievement, why do I have to do that achievement over-and-over again on every character?

There needs to be a “I’ve heard this tale (skip scenario)” option for the first after you’ve done it, and the first isn’t that exciting.

Cool idea, but definitely not a game-changer. Too slow to upgrade, too much repetition across alts.

Benthic Armor

Okay, this is great. I love how easy it is to shoot up new 120’s iLvls. The gear looks… pretty bad? The “Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean” theme has some good aspects (like the sea anemones on the leather set), but… I mean, that’s a very niche aesthetic for any character. It’s just “meh”, because it doesn’t add anything to my mog collections, because I’ll never use it.

However, looks aside, this is great! It’s really easy to get my characters gear without feeling like I have to commit to the more serious parts of the game. I don’t want to have the best gear, I just want to keep up with the crowd.

In combination with Nazjatar requiring a group for a lot of things, it’s actually pretty decent open world content. Almost turns your world into a dungeon, or at least a puzzle to solve (once you get to the puzzle -_-).

I do wish Benthic weapons were a thing.

TL;DR
It’s more of the same. Has some good bits. I like that it focuses on world content, but it’s not the “game-saving” patch we were lead to believe by several streamers and content generators. Nazjatar feels very similar to every other questing zone. It has some difficulty spikes that require groups, and that’s pretty alright. Mechagon is great, a lot of fun trying to work with others in an informal setting towards a long list of fun rewards. Essences aren’t fixing BfA’s systems, and across alts, its waaaay too much repetition. (Repeatability good, repetition bad.) Benthic armor is pretty good, and also needs to be studied to implement an improved system in patches going forward.

I stopped playing before 8.2 and I haven’t come back due to a few reasons. I’m keen to have a look soon though.

This tells me that you know about the warmode imbalance… you’re just being one of those people who ignore the truth and pretend that everything’s ok.

Pretty shady to me, Bornakk. Pretty shady…

I seriously almost quit the game over this patch, it was only my good wow friend left that convinced me to stay.

I really like the new raid, I was expecting a grind to pathfinder as well… But the dailies just aren’t fun for me other than the Jumping Jellies/puzzle like ones.

The one thing that’s ridiculous is having to level up these followers for my BiS essence for arms warrior. I absolutely cannot stand having a ‘pet’ and that’s why I play warrior, really annoying having to deal with these idiot followers who keep me in combat.

Also, in Mechagon there seems to constantly be like… 3 things to do. The tinkering stuff isn’t appealing to me, if it was I’d be an engineer instead of a blacksmith.

Thumbs up to a fellow RPer

Still back to the topic, Mechagon is still odd for me. Odd being that I am trying to get into building things but I do not run into many projects. I have heard that is the fun thing about the island. The rares are well, ok. I be still trying to find the fun things in Mechagon since it still just feels like Nazjatar only with occasional things you have to fix.

Nazjatar is the most miserable zone in the game on foot. I got so sick of it so fast that I got my last 300-400 rep with a contract in other zones just so I wouldn’t have to go back. Using flying as the carrot with pathfinder was easily one of the dumbest decisions you people ever made.

8.2 experience so far now that I’ve experienced almost all of it:

New zones - Nazjatar was where I experienced the worst amount of rage that I’ve probably ever felt in BfA after I had to give up on mythic + for months because it had gotten so toxic and so many people were leaving keys mid run. Just so many things about Nazjatar were mildly to extremely infuriating. I have yet to even get rank 2 on my herbalism and it took me weeks to get rank 2 in mining. I don’t even bother trying to farm that stuff for gold. I tried to sell some new feasts on the AH, can’t even get a single buyer. Not even a single bid for the reduced price of 2k.

Nobody seems to want your new feasts or has that kind of gold to throw away on a consumable because you had deflated the economy by gutting our gold income from world content by 90% from the end of Legion.

Gold is worth something again. And nobody is buying anything and the entire economy is stagnant. Good job Ion. We’re all broke. Gold is worth something again. Ask all of us which expansion and game director we prefer. Please ask us. early/mid Legion or early/mid BfA please ask us who we thought got it right.

Mechagon is ok but again there are a few things that turn players against each other and it can get real toxic real quick in there. And I’m not talking about PvP.

Mythic + season 3:

Season 3 is a complete joke. I really don’t support this game theory where it’s better to give everyone a very hard reset every 3 months or so, a la diablo 3 seasons, and just reboot everything from around the +7-10 key range and make everyone slowly crawly their way up from there.

I want to feel stronger when I invest hours and hours and hours into my character pushing a key to +12, rolling bonuses on the +10s and higher, farming war resources to get those bonus rolls, it’s all a singular effort to make this character feel stronger.

But instead you give everyone a hard reset every 3 months and I’m never going to feel really strong again. Ya we were a bit too strong at the start of Legion, but after awhile it felt good to be really strong. It felt good to have those legendaries and all those artifact weapon trees unlocked. It felt good to have that progression and not have to worry about it anymore and the catch up in Legion was great when you finally dumped the artifact knowledge tome thing.

Instead with BfA it’s just so toxic and the dungeons are so ridiculously unforgiving. I can push a +11 in season 3 for one dungeon on my first try, then I can just watch group after group after group get completely smashed in temple of sethraliss because it’s just on a completely different level. I’ve seen people with raider io scores above 1700 get STOMPED by Adderis in season 3 already. Multiple people. He’s just the first boss man! This isn’t even a +16 or something yet I’m just trying to push for a +15 clear for a transmog and the game expects nothing short of robotic precision and organization from 5 random humans who live in different parts of the world just trying to push 15s and below. We’re not the crazy mythic guilds or streamers doing +27s or something absurd so I don’t understand why people are getting one-shot by adderis with a raider io that high, and ilvls that high, on a friggin +12 or +11 temple.

And you want to know what the most egregious thing of all is about 8.2?

YOU DIDN’T GIVE THE ALLIANCE THE BEE MOUNT THEY HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR FOR LIKE A YEAR NOW.

I still can’t get over the bee mount thing. You bothered to have the game director do Q and As telling us the alliance would be getting some cool new mounts too later… because we didn’t have flying yet.

I have flying. Why is the bee mount not in the game yet. Why is it still just a placeholder spell that doesn’t even have a name yet?

Come on man this is just… not the standard that blizzard has always met when it delivers products to the public.

And there’s still no communication. You don’t give us any real information or numbers or anything concrete you just give us a bunch of lawyer-speak and slap a super-imposed bee mount on a slideshow with FLYING! in the whats coming in 8.2…

I want some answers. And that bee mount. Not very impressed with 8.2 I have to say so far.

I got Candy Crush to 663 without spending a dime, but that level had the number of turns reduced from 30 to 14, so you have to buy boosts to get past it.

Game uninstalled.

My favorite part of Rise of Azshara was when I uninstalled the game to go play FFXIV, which is objectively a better game. I also liked how 8.2 was such a bad patch that it pushed a lot of people over to FFXIV, which is doing phenomenal right now. Thanks, Blizzard.

Lol was about to say same thing Zicam. Nazjatar actually pushed me to try FFXIV, a game I previously tried for maybe 5 minutes. Well my char is 26 already and I am now enjoying it there.

Pity. Nazjatar is a beautiful zone, but the terrain is terrible. Like someone else said here, its as if Blizzard did it on purpose to have to traverse some of the worst terrain possible to get flying. I cannot tell you how often I got stuck, fell, or had to run through a million mobs smashing my head in. All this while trying to just get around. I would get stuck and log in frustration.

I try FFXIV and walking around is a breeze. I try ESO, again I am not getting stuck on terrain, hopelessly lost trying to find paths. I just get to enjoy the damn game.

Your obsession with limiting flying and then giving us terrible ground terrain has taken its toll with me. I do not want to log in and spend my time frustrated with getting around.

I was doing the Carnivorous Lasher event (that I used my own seed to start), and when I was in the middle of feeding it, It phased me to a different shard. F*** sharting.

Now they’re there, but floating up out of net-o-matic range, swooping down only when they have local superiority in numbers. Don’t get me wrong, both sides do it, but it’s a much less fun world PVP experience for both sides than before flying was in the game.

Make the net-o-matic instant cast, so that people can’t escape to the air, and people in the air don’t have safe haven because other flyers can shoot them down. Flying will still be available for long distance movements, but when PVP starts, everyone will be forced to the ground, making for better game play.

I have been hearing this a lot now, several of my friends have left WoW to go to that game. Classic is not enticing them back in the least either.
