Rise of Azshara Experiences So Far

Well. I gave this patch a good chance, and while Blizzard still delivers amazing atmosphere, graphics, art, and music . . . the gameplay is still lacking. Before I dive into feedback about what is wrong with the game, I do want to take the time to say that I personally have enjoyed all of the raiding and dungeon content which I feel has been very unique, fun and engaging especially compared to the last few expansions. That said:

I’m not sure if anybody on the team will ever read this but I want to give a small list of things I feel would make me come back again. I have cancelled my sub after testing out this patch.

  • Bring back PvP Vendors
  • Change Honor back to currency for Vendor Items
  • Stop capping the gains we can make daily. We cannot play every day, and want to grind when we can. Capping gains means we actually play LESS.
  • Focus heavily on class skills. Currently classes feel gutted without any real identity. Many do not feel fun to play.
  • Never release an expansion saying there are new classes and then hide them behind a rep grind. It’s insulting.

I’ve played this game many years, but this is a low point. All you have to do is make a game that’s fun to play. One thing that annoys me about the capping of progress, is it makes me always feel behind and makes me want to play the game less.

Where in MoP I had the most alts EVER. 5 of them. And I played a LOT because I had no cap on my progress. PvP vendors were still around, and I knew there was a reward coming if I just put in the time I wanted to WHEN i wanted to.

Forcing us to log in daily, hiding new heroes behind rep grinds, forcing PVE’rs to PVP and vice versa, buggy zones, sharding issues, and loss of class identity . . . the game doesn’t feel fun anymore.

I know you guys can make an amazing expansion again. I’ve seen you do it many times. Stop extending our subs by making us play how we do not like. Your subs were fine during MoP and it came from making the game fun to play. That’s all you need to do.

Nothing will fix the frustration in the community until you soul search and realize you have made big mistakes that will take a big overhaul to fix. BC, Wrath, MoP, and Legion are your most beloved expansions, and for good reason.

Take a look at your history of excellence to find a path forward again.

I wish you all the best of luck because I would love to enjoy this game again!

PS: Also remember, MoP was not well received at first, and even though it had its fair share of issues, what made it great? Gameplay. Focus on the GAMEPLAY.

I’ve loved this game for years. But I am beyond done with it now. Having to wait so long for flying, only to have to grind through two separate reps, one in an area that was deliberately designed to slow you down. Naz is confusing to navigate, with too many mobs, quest items that take forever to respawn after someone gets it first because your bodyguard was in the way…This isn’t fun. I made it to honored, and I just can’t bring myself to log in after barely making a dent towards revered after four hours of dailies and wq. And then there is Mech to go through. Nope. Unsubbed.

TL;DR - Pretty decent patch as far as content patches come, a lot of things to do and a large step in the right direction. 7/10

As far as content patches go, I think it did a lot good. It fixed a lot of problems the azerite system had, added a good catchup mechanic for people like me (thank god), 2 great looking zones, etc. My one complaint is that Nazjatar is a little… idk, annoying? There’s a lot of mobs and the stuff you do in the zone isn’t that fun. I hope the raid is good though. As for Mechagon, I actually love it. The junkyard tinkering is awesome, the mounts are awesome, I haven’t gotten to the dungeon but it seems really fun, etc etc…

Patch 8.2 is a major disappointment. Friends purchased game time for me and I immediately PayPal’d them $20 as I don’t see myself lasting the full 30 days.

The art is great, but 8.2 is more of the same. You guys missed a great opportunity.

Here we are in the middle of the Naga empire and we’re killing bloat rays?! The quests should have been fashioned after the quests in Suramar. We should be doing covert investigation, sizing up the enemy, etc.

Azshara was as vain as they come. She should have been seated in a grand, sprawling city, not some mud pit. Naz looks like a more colorful version of Azuna. For the amount of hype around this patch, you guys could have done better.

Anyway, my $0.02. Happy Monday and here’s to a good week.

I will start off by saying I have been absolutely LOVING this expansion… from both the Alliance and the Horde side. Until now.

I still expect to, overall, love this expansion. But right now? Ugh. Right now, I’m not happy. Right now I can’t stand the sight of Nazjatar. I’m tired of getting lost, falling off cliffs, running into a pack of elite mobs, etc. when I’m just trying to get from point A to point B.

Flying can’t come soon enough.

But yet I hate it there so much that I only do the bare minimum. So far it’s been just the three Fishboi Follower quests and if there’s an emissary, then I do that. I’m not even halfway through Honored and dread going there every day. Trying to navigate the place gives me a headache. I don’t even bother to try to make it to kill a rare before it dies.

Mechagon is only slightly better… mostly because of the rocket pack. But since there’s no emissary there, I’m only halfway through Honored with them too.

But at least I don’t completely dread going there every day.

I will continue to slog on. I will continue to gain an infinitesimal amount of rep every day until one day I will finally get Pathfinder Part 2. After that I’m sure I’ll have a grand old time flying around and farming rares for mounts and other cool things and doing the same thing on my alts. I will while away the time waiting for the next phase of the campaign doing that and I’m looking forward to it.

But right now? Not happy. Not enjoying it whatsoever.

Like mechagon, don’t like nazjatar but its not a deal breaker. Grind for flight is annoying but not a deal breaker. Still feel flight for older zones should have been given some time ago and would have been fine with unlocking flight for new zones.

The one thing that is getting to me is the essence grinds. Last two weeks has felt like a job, getting through it so I can actually play the game. And the expectation is for us to do similar with alts lul.

Just doing the essence grinds on main. I normally tank in m+ on different toon, instead will play other games, repeating these grinds isn’t happening.

Look for rares, only to see they are in a weird place ontop of a cave or something in nazjatar lol

Idk… I’ve been invested in the WC lore for a very long time and one of the places really wanted to see was Nazjatar ever since I played WC3 and I got to know about the naga and got hints of Azshara’s involvement, idk, I was expecting a grandiose city hidden beneath the waves but instead it feels a little underwhelming. It’s like if the naga did literally nothing in the past ten thousand years but watch old Elven structures erode.

Having played through for a week, this is more enjoyable than I first posted. Naz’jatar is still annoying, but I’m used to it by now.

Mechagon is actually a lot of fun, despite it being full of Gnomes :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

For the record, I still can’t fly but that’s ok.

Yeah I have heard that Mechagon is supposed to be the ‘fun’ zone. However am I missing something? It just seems like more dailies and the main fun thing is the jet-packs which is flying. The rep gains are just as bad as Nazjatar as well.

I’d like to give a few points of feedback:

  1. Blizzard upped the hp on most mobs because they didn’t want everything dying so quickly. They wanted us to go through our rotations. But sometimes its fun to kill things quickly! I do often find myself frustrated on boring quests saying outloud, “jesus just die already.” This is especially bad on healers. One can only smite something so many times before the magic is gone.

  2. Recently it seems like there has been less importance has been placed on being clear with what is happening. There are several boss monsters in Nazjatar that have abilities that will one-two shot you with very unclear visuals leaving you thinking: “what just happened?.” This is also often the case in pet battles, btw. Without reading the abilities in the log, you are just wondering why the heck something is happening because there is nothing else showing you.

  3. Faction balance is ruining world pvp. Not gonna go into this, it’s covered many other places.

  4. Mechagon was fun, but after getting revered there is only one gameplay reason to go there: Galvanic Oscillators. There should be more avenues to get these, even if the cost of the items crafted with them goes up.

  5. There are too many mobs everywhere.

Having a lot of fun! I played 8.0 & almost entirely skipped 8.1. I came back for 8.2 and am glad I did.
:::I’ve enjoyed Nazjatar more than Mechagon, but both are fun. Nazjatar is beautiful and Eternal Palace is an absolute blast.
:::Benthic Gear having pre-set stats and an upgrade system give a great player-controlled gearing path.
:::Essences are cool and fun to collect. Collecting things is fun on its own, hehe.
:::I saw a Mag’har in WSG wearing the heritage armor and he was such a BAMF that I had to start working towards it myself. (I know thats not an 8.2 thing but it got me jazzed)
:::The new alchemy potions with neat proc effects on them are cool. Ive enjoyed alchemy in BFA in general - the 8.0 concealment one is good in War Mode in particular.

There are people wishing for a classic WOW that stops at level 40???

I got flying so I’m good now.

Flight really improved gameplay. Do consider shifting Pathfinder to a single step.
Timegating it for almost a year, frankly was one of the worst ideas ever.

I enjoyed Nazjatar, but once I got Revered I have no desire to go back. Except for the chest ‘puzzles’ because I never played Candy Crush and always wondered how that worked.
Manapearls and Benthic gear sounded fun but I realised it is probably better to treat it as a RNG-compensator…so a feature that makes another feature less bad doesn’t really seem like much of a win, to be frank.
Mechagon - the dailies take too long after being used to doing WQs for about 6 months at least. Jetpacks made the island bearable when I could get them, otherwise I just did it for the rep.
I’m 1-2 days off flying but to be honest I’m not sure WHY I want flying. Where am I going to fly to ? I thought I might use it to level up some alts but I find the thought unappealing now that it comes to it.
I tried the new dungeon with PUGs - even one that was 410-415 and we all wiped on trash a lot. I guess we’re just too bad to even try that at the moment. Might try again in 2 months or so.
None of my alts get the starter quest for Nazjatar. I don’t know why. But maybe that’s not so bad.
So, overall, I guess it was initially a bit exciting and now …thinking about other things to do in my WoW time.

My experience so far is bored out of my mind and only logging on for the stupid rep grind once done with world quests and such back off.

Not a fan

Tedious travel and quests

Pathfinder part two sucks.

Nazjatar is a horrible zone with ridiculous pathing and impossible to make it to rares in time.

Rep rewards are pathetically slow. I’m someone who plays maybe twice a week because of family and work and gaining the rep for flying is the worst.

Get rid of Pathfinder already and stop making crap zones like nazjatar. Paid flight like it was pre WoD.
