Ripcord, essentially pulled

OP said “70-90.”

Okay so the ripcord is nowhere near pulled then. Just some abilities got nerfed and the OP was hyperbolic about it and everyone fell for it.

IE: Bonespike. Warbanner. Etc. There’s about a month of patch notes on WoWhead to go through.

First, cov abilities got nerfed. Then legos. Then conduits. Then soulbinds. Then they said that they will buff legos back.

He’s not entirely wrong though. Some classes’ Covenants are now all so garbage it won’t matter what you pick because it’s almost a dead button.

Honestly there’s been so many tuning passes I wouldn’t even look at it until a week or so before release, unless you are actively testing it and reporting to Blizzard the changes mean almost nothing.

I’m not arguing anything. All I did was correct a miscommunication.

I mean, I can’t attest to every class, but I’m inclined to think the OP just trolled everyone here because nobody really asks for sources. People just kinda see “covenants nerfed 70-90%. Ripcord essentiall pulled.” and will instantly believe it and will comment on it as if it’s true.

Maybe some classes have all 4 covenants all equally useless, but I don’t think that’s the reason for this thread.

We can hope they do nerf them all into obscurity then.

I don’t understand why they are being so stubborn about making power and cosmetics two separate choices.

Then again, I don’t understand people who act like this is what anyone asked for.

I don’t recall anyone asking for the powers to be nerfed into nothing, but I guess that’s easier than actual balance and tuning.

It’s an example of how ideas don’t always translate into good game design. If it were one of those single player RTS iterations it would have worked just fine.

The problem is this is an MMORPG. It doesn’t work here. You have to keep the imbalances friendly to P2P gameplay. Aka class imbalances are fine, so long as a lot of work goes into defining the strengths and weaknesses of each. Because players are going to be using them for 6-12-24 months. It will shape their perspective of the game.

Once you start putting those imbalances into arbitrary things like gear, conduits, etc you’re committing to a horrid cycle of imbalance and negative player feedback. Worse last year’s QQ is thrown into the trash with the promise of a new arbitrary thing that will just make for new QQ.

Get back to the basics. If you have all these neat ideas for new abilities just make new classes. Or fix the classes that exist.

I understand their vision, (which is not to say I agree with it) but they have a serious gap in understanding both the playerbase and their own capabilities to get these layers of systems done. At some point, they need to adjust their goals to be achievable.

Well there you go, fun killed. Way to go forums. Way to go.

That pretty much is the Blizzard definition of balance and tuning .

Players: Hey Blizz this isn’t balanced

Blizz : Must use Mjolnerf :hammer: to restore balance

Players: Blizz this isn’t tune properly

Blizz: I the mighty Blizz will use the power of Mjolnerf :hammer: to properly tune this for you puny mortals.

I thought it was Mjolnerf :grinning:

Even better going to have to edit now

Why are you pretending they weren’t going to tune these abilities regardless? You’re openly admitting you were hoping for Blizzard to be incompetent.

This is probably the best news out of beta yet.

If covenants were badly designed for the majority, and only a good fit for a minority, that “everyone” is most people, not the few who would have incidentally benefited.

Be careful what you wish for, because you may get it. With no ripcord and no parachute, there’s a chance of freefall.

Why do they have to reinvent the wheel every xpac? At WoWs peak at 11 million subs it had virtual no weird systems. They need to get back to the core characters and develop those not borrowed power.

They are too lazy to balance higher set of features or skills over multiple expansions.

It is much easier to let you have your fun with borrowed power over an xpac then not have to worry about balancing/tuning that aspect over multiple expansions. This is usually the choice made by director/producer.
