Balance is not the definition of homogenization. If every healer used the exact same spells and had the same spell effects, I could see the problem. But if each healer had the same number of abilities and similar types of abilities that were used in conjunction with a similar rotation, they would still have their own flavor, but they would be just as competitive as their adjacent class. It would be nice to see more balance while still retaining the flavor of the individual classes. This is my own opinion, of course, and does not supersede any other in this discussion.
What you just described could be achieved by getting rid of every class and letting people pick a role with the appropriate flavor glyphs for the player’s chosen theme.
It is horrible game design.
