Revert the Addon locking

hmm weird…I don’t have any of those issues you have. lol

sorry to hear.

mmo games are not about needing add-ons though

yes, revert the addon locking!!!

ehh

consoles have addons these days

they usually restrict the amount of custom assets they use but most WoW addons are light in the amount of custom assets they have

Because the last time they tried to go soft at end of dragonflight, CE guilds bent over backwards trying to get around the softer restrictions to continue using add-ons to problem solve the encounter.

So FFXIV is how blizzard wants it to work, in theory, their restrictions seem to indicate otherwise in some cases.

Regardless they need a preview of what the in house capabilities are yesterday at this point. Show us what these replacements are, granted at this point they could announce a 1:1 clone of WA and people would hate it on principle.

We will see how they react further to this. Gotta love how they wait until a Friday to do this right? They can let the forums burn to the ground for the weekend and deal with it monday.

What people supporting the addon restrictions expect to happen:

  • Blizzard makes good in-house addon replacements for some of the most important features
  • Encounter design will improve, accounting for human reaction time and improving visiblity
  • RWF players may take a little longer to solve Mythic mechanics, everyone else should be mostly unaffected

What will actually happen, based on empirical evidence:

  • Blizzard makes bare-minimum functional in-house addon replacements that are missing most of the key important features because they didn’t take any time to get adequate feeback and make changes. If players are lucky they get half of those features by Season 2 the following expansion.
  • Encounter design still manages to suck and there continue to be plenty of mechanics that have poor visibility, poor sound design, or not enough time to react to, that you really wish you could turn to a WA to make sense of it at all, but you don’t have that option anymore.
    • And because Blizzard didn’t take the time to think things through before going full nuclear, you can’t even create a simple WA that simply informs you “YOU HAVE A DEBUFF ON YOU”, even if it doesn’t tell you anything about what to do with it.
  • RWF players will barely even notice, their staff that normally handles creating WeakAuras may have to jump through extra hoops to come with new jank solutions for mechanics.
  • Players with disabilities who legitimately depend on these addons just to be able to play end-game content in any capacity will be forced away from the game because they are left with literally no option.

The last point alone should be reason enough that this whole addon lockdown is a terrible idea. They’re straight up kicking their most vulnerable players to the curb. But there are still plenty of other reasons now is NOT the time to be making such a drastic and misguided change to the game.

To be clear, I want them to add in-house addons and things to the base game. I still insist Targeted Spells needs to be something clearly conveyed by the base game to the player warning that you are the target of something, or who in your party is so you know they are about to take damage). I want them to improve accessibility features and give players control over their in-house boss mods so you can personally decide what you want sounds for, and what sounds you get for those abilities (some want “wind chimes” but others need “air horn” or they won’t hear it). It also needs to be possible for custom addons to build on top of the in-house addons. I want the base game to be better. But killing addons right now is just not the answer.

looking where? I feel like finding a quit should be pretty easy, no?

nail on the head

it’ll eventually shake out but WoW does not have a strong centralized structure for its development and they go back on philosophy changes ALL the time. Some dev somewhere is going to ‘forget’ their new direction during a crunch and just go with what they knew worked before to create a mess of a fight, and it’s going to happen many times.

We play different games because we have different likes and hates… POE is not Diablo, Baldur’s Gate has “meaningful choice” and look how well that worked out in Shadow Lands with covenants. Final Fantasy is not WoW… the list goes on and on. The reason I have played WoW for nearly 20 years is because I can customize it the way I want. It has multiple skills, abilities, utilities, niche casts, etc… I hated FF14 because I couldn’t track my abilities, I couldn’t see my damage or healing, I couldn’t modify the UI the way I wanted. I left the game because it wasn’t WoW. World of Warcraft has built it’s identity on addons and customization. The moment they take this away, make our rotation 3 or 4 buttons for all specs, is the moment it becomes another generic MMO, that coincidently, I don’t play because it is too boring/simple and lacks the complexity that has kept me with the game for almost 2 decades. WoW is literally the best because we can customize the game the way we want and to our level. If you don’t chase CE or even AoTC you don’t have to download Northern Sky or Liquid. If you don’t do Mplus you don’t need interrupt trackers. If you don’t PvP you don’t need XYZ. The list goes on and on because you can build the game the way you play. If you super casual, the one button rotation and base UI is literally all you need. If you want to do more, you can. If you want to get better, you can. The addons are what makes WoW great because it sets itself apart from almost all other MMOs in the fact, if you can dream it, you can do it via addons and weakauras.

This is how I feel about it as well but I feel like I we’re in the minority

Baseline tools are not ready. They are all lacking important functionality. They can get there (maybe), but every single component has some serious things wrong with it.

I really want to set a date where everyone unsubscribes, even if just for 1 day everyone cancels service so we can send a message.

As a spriest, I have it setup so I can track my insanity in a separate, small bar. Then I have it show a tick mark for when I can cast Devouring Plague (which the new DH stole so we have madness now? lol)… I have it glow slightly when I’m almost capped on Insanity, and then I have it massive glow and size so I know I accidently capped my resources. I have my Mind Blast change opacity and track how much my crit % is when I’m playing Voidweaver so I know when I should or shouldn’t pick up an Astral Antenna orb. I use color gradients that change with the opacity so I know when I can completely ignore and ability that is more than 20 seconds out on it’s coolddown. I literally have everything super customized to even track my remaining GCDs so I know if I should cast one more Mindblast or wait for Voidbolt to come off cooldown. I love this game because I can track things that work for my unique brain based on color, size, gradient, glow, location etc… these things arent even close to what they are forcing on us.

Furthermore, as a long time Spriest main there are many fights where I have to look straight down on my avatar to avoid mechanics which means I can’t see the default health bars of units so I have bar trackers setup on my current target, and also my focus target for when I get to cleave. When they get to a certain time remaining they glow. When my focus which is set to be my passive cleave target gets really low I have it play sound effects so I know when to refresh without having to constantly look at the remaining time. With the current Alpha none of this is possible which means I literally can’t play my favorite class of all times.

I’m devastated because these changes are taking a game I have loved since the day I started and making it into another generic MMO. Like all the other MMOs, I don’t play them because I don’t have the addons and customizations that make WoW feel like my home.

The war on addons was stated as a way to counter boss mechanics, but the WA’s aren’t the problem. It’s the bad boss design. The truth is, this feels like a false flag Blizzard is using to try and convert the general player base. They could easily design fights better so they don’t require complex addons to manage by giving us more time to react, making positioning intuitive and so on. For example, King Saladbar… you can drop the stars anywhere on the platform, but if you don’t put them in the perfect location, they will hit each other and wipe the raid (Mythic) or even on heroic they will simply pull the group into the orbs and wipe the group. This is simply poor design by blizzard. Instead, they could have the stars fall from the sky and 3 players need to soak them. Then the placement no longer has to be controlled by addons/weakauras because it is intuitive. The same could have been done for Broodtwister, or XYZ boss. Funny, when the fights are designed correctly you’ll see almost no weakauras are needed because it is intuitive and part of the fight, but when they make them overly complex, they require addons. This is bad fight design, not the fault of WeakAuras.

addons were always cheating and if this was any other game yall would have been banned for them ages ago also good boy your not getting you add dons nor are you able to use your macro for spells anymore or abilities or well things you would have.

So what you’re saying is that this addon nuking is actually an out of season April Fool’s joke?

Removing all addons could not happen soon enough IMHO. The only ones I’ll miss if they remove absolutly EVERYTHING is Sexymap, Baganator, and Dominos.

The only combat addon I use anymore is Plater, so hopefully their replacement is at least somewhat close to as functionable.

Hopefully they will give us some options to pretty up our UI as we see fit. I like having very minimalistic UIs with dark color themes.

This is the caliber of player who celebrates addons being removed. One who thinks @mouseover casts are hax.

Removing choice from others rather than ignoring the option they don’t want to and don’t have to use.

you clearly dont know how to play wow if you think thats what people do.

I believe they described it as
If you download an addon that lets your run of the mill basic weapon look like the huge flashy ultra super hard raid mode reward, as long as you are the only one who can see it, who cares. But, if your addon shows that appreance to everyone and you are now sporting an appreance that you can look like the top tier players without lifting a finger, then theres a problem.

Yep. I’m 100% quitting, as are several other healers in my guild if this goes through as is. Vuhdo and Healbot shouldn’t be considered “combat addons”. They don’t do anything for you. They let you bind spells and give you a new interface for healing, that’s it.

Super super glad I didn’t fall for the prepurchase hype, partly because I saw this coming.
