So I’ve been away from MG for a bit, and I’m ready to level my priest up and come back to the server.
But…I used to swap out off-hands or hats for various situations and with the new transmog system, I honestly don’t know how to make that work. For simple things like putting on a hat and taking it off, how does that work now?
I’m sure a lot of you have come up with workarounds for this. so how do you handle it?
You can just remove the piece of equipment, and it won’t show. Before they allowed us the “hide while sheathed” option for weapons, I often had to unequip my gun for RP purposes.
Another option is to have a transmog outfit that is simply “hide hat” and every other slot is ignored. Then, when you push the button for that outfit, it will just hide your hat. To put the hat back on, select the outfit that originally had the hat.
I’m more referring to hood up/hood down vs “on” and “off”. We can just unequip something to make it go away and reappear, but if we want to swap out two different pieces - which is historically what I’ve done - we can no longer trade an item out for that. We’d have to make an entire new outfit for it, right?
My character typically uses a scarf helm mog for hood down and a different helm w/a hood of the same color for hood up.
I used to make subtle changes like that with a group of transmogged items in my bags that I just swapped out with keybinds on an action bar - reading glasses/lantern off-hand/etc.
I’ll figure something else out, I guess, because I don’t want to sink in gold on separate outfit slots just to swap out my hood.
Unfortunately to swap between hood up and hood down using a scarf yes you would need to have a different set entirely. A notable exception is if you’re fortunate enough to have an item that isn’t transmoggable for a related appearance (such as glasses) those will still swap in normally. However as you mentioned on a priest that would be very limited.
I wish they would give us a way to make a piece of gear keep its current transmog setting regardless of what the transmog settings for the slot are. I used to like to have different pieces of gear transmogged to a certain appearance so I could use them as costumes and props in my RP.
I don’t like the current transmog system. It’s too limited and too expensive.
A lot of the changes in Midnight have been really unfortunate for RP players.
I have three outfit slots, and for now that will have to be enough, and I’ll just get used to not wearing my hood when it rains, I guess.
Yeah. It’s expensive with the slots. I have 12 slots open – this character is an RP entertainer and sometimes goes through multiple costume changes in a night – and kind of wish that I had more.
But for the hoods, you would just have an outfit that is the hood up and every other slot ignored. I have one outfit that is just a skull mask. (I’m a goth-themed dancer, so it makes sense.) Normally I wear the flower crown, but I hit a button and the skull mask gets swapped in. Then when I want to go back to the flower crown I just hit the button for the original outfit.
I actually love how seamlessly everything works once you get it set up, but setting it up can be a nighmare.
