Return to Moon Guard

Impersonating would not work because you not only have to level the character to match, you also need to know all of the other users cosmetic slots, have achievement points to match, have same pets, rare items, and more!! Even after all that, there is the game license number! Yeah, it’s paranoia in action!

Man, I wish I had the foresight to get some character names I had on Drenden on WrA as well…

At least I’ve got two name changes ready to go if those names ever become available…

I wasn’t using you specifically, I was using the reference about Silver Circle. When it comes to name hogging I’ve seen groups that use basic names like Silver Circle, then someone comes around and adds “The” to the name to get its counterpart.

The Scarlet Crusade vs Scarlet Crusade
The Silver Hand vs Silver Hand
The Shadow Council vs Shadow Council

Its all a big attempt at dominating, then claiming originality.
*Vigilants of Tyr vs The Vigilants of Tyr. I believe someone with a grudge did that on MG.

When i was a member of the ‘Zodiac Court’ on MG , before they moved to WRA back in Cata, I was new still and when they moved, I was bullied at the time into going with or being ignored. I chose to be ignored because I wasn’t going to pay for the fee.

When I said I was going to make a new character, their response was told I wasn’t ‘worth the trouble’. The guild has long since disbanded/banned because of the excessive bullying/racism. Not sure if the name is flagged for it.

A name like that will bring out the worst in people when pride/power goes right to their heads.

Given the cross server blending that happens on a few servers, I do wonder if that will occur on MG/WRA at some point. Dead areas won’t be confined to just one server but both/multiple when a lesser number are operating.

Example: Seeing MG/WRA both in Ashenvale, or in Desolace without the need for groups to cross/realm hop.

I’m so confused. You listed an example from all the way back in Cata…

I suppose you can wonder all you like, but it seems wondering is as far as you’ll go. You don’t seem familiar with the culture of this server, and I can’t tell if you’re actually interested in learning after we tell you.

\I’ve played since BC, but i put in about 4-6 hours a week back then. By the time of Pandaria i put in 30 hours a week, and since Legion i play about 8-12 hours a day.

Its hard to read some of the posts because i can’t tell if players are speaking to me or to others. I’ve always been on MG. I try to play on WRA but a few interactions came up hollow/aggressive.

The main point of this post is if people will return to MG but i keep noticing the repeating pattern of MG for Alli, WRA for horde. I understand that some people have roots on WRA and i respect that.

I’m more curious about those who moved here to WRA from MG and why, and would they ever return?

Oh, I used to be on Cenarion Circle. I moved to WrA because the smaller RP servers had long been dead when I came back to wow at the tail end of Shadowlands

So, no deep reason from me. I just heard MG and WrA were the surviving RP servers and went to WrA on a whim. Honestly a ton of people I’ve met since then have a ‘I came from (small server)’ origin stories

Easy to spot anyone impersonating me.

They wont have the Battlemaster title

Hold on, let me get my Haris Pilton Ruby Shades.

I’m the real Ruby Shady, all others are just imitating.

You know, I’m starting to think someone has a fraudulent life insurance out on WrA-A and that’s why the rumor that it’s dead is so persistent.

Jokes aside, drawing from recent pensive conversation in the WCP so not all of this is mine, but it’s definitely been echoing my thoughts on this matter…

Walk-up roleplay is like the PuG of roleplay. There’s zero investment and you can walk in and out at any time. While that’s great for getting a roleplay fix at any time of day, much like PvE/PvP pugging, you genuinely don’t know what you’re going to get. Sometimes you have a great time, sometimes you don’t; sometimes you make connections that go deeper and sometimes it stays shallow and you don’t. And while having such a scene on a server makes the roleplay population easy to advertise and hop into, it’s not the entirety of what a roleplay server can offer.

WrA as a whole, even Hordeside, doesn’t have the walk-up “pug” roleplay that Moon Guard Stormwind has, so it gets regularly maligned for it, especially after game announcements and new and returning folks pop in. But “pug" RP is one facet of a roleplay server and not all servers have that culture anymore as WoW’s population has decreased over time. While I have no shortage of roleplay or roleplay opportunities here on WrA has a predominately Alliance-coded roleplayer, the server my guild pointedly chose to transfer to being so regularly dismissed based on a standard we haven’t needed can be exhausting at times.

TL;DR The incidental uptick lately with folks popping in after the Midnight announcement claiming “WrA is dead because it doesn’t have the Stormiwnd PuG roleplay scene” is exhausting. We’re just different and have quite a lot to offer if people dispel old notions and see what roleplay lies outside the confines of the Moon Guard universe.

Yep I remember exploring that area and being disappointed it was a huge mound of nothing.

However Mount Hyjal in classic was fun to get in to and if you wanted to be really mean you could swim down the hole under the world tree and summon people who would ultimately drown since it was so deep down.

It used to be a big thing to go to GM isle but there really wasn’t much there from what I remember just a house and a chair. I think for a while you would get in trouble for going there?

This is coming from 30 years of MMORPG experience. There are three rules for online role playing. They are as follows:

  1. Diversify
  2. Diversify
  3. Diversify

Walk-Ups tend to be the first point of contact for new and returning players. Walk-ups is often a do or break for each expansion. Sometimes I join a game and absolutely nothing happens! Just chew and digest the current content then go play something else. When players suggest rolling MG-Alliance as first character, they are certainly correct doing so. A boosted chance of successful initial contacts can and will lead to more Horde players on WRA!!

Once making your first contacts, start friending players on your Bnet. In WoW, the Bnet friends list is the mainstay for RP. Keeping meeting new characters while adding more. Once your Bnet list is populated, consider hosting some of your own events. My characters are very heavy on business and family themes. For a little background, log into WCP, WRA-Tavern, Society Circle, etc and look up events. Characters that enjoy watching fights will attend fight nights. Characters who enjoy something more subtle will attend the story circle, for example. You may choose to either participate or attend passively to start. If your characters don’t meet others or not able to find acceptance, try out other events or swap toons.

For multiple characters, run them in 2s or 3s or maybe just 1 character at a time. Sadgati does not know all of my own characters, vice versus. This is diversity rule number two; have a variety of characters!

World of Warcraft has three players bases totaling about 225,000 unique logins daily. There is standard retail, Blizzard supported classic, then finally private servers with tailored playstyles. Sticking with standard retail, the RP player base is about 5% of total. That is about 4,000 players per playstyle daily. One can also try an EU WoW license too!! Within the Warcraft apparatus alone, that is up to 12,000 players plus EU players!!

Finally, there are MANY other universes out there to explore. Though most often smaller, they tend to be easier to get into the fold due to better background story. SWTOR, LOTRO, EVE, FFXIV all comes to mind. My guild in SWTOR has an academy which runs daily to help guide a character on their RP journey rather it is first time or just getting back into the fold. If able to, level or have toons in other games to explore! If WoW does not work out, just hop on one of many other options out there!

Sorry to hear that. I’ve only been here for a couple of weeks now and ive never had a bad encounter most the people here are pretty chill unlike my old server Hyjal.

I also used to play on Hyjal long long ago.

It was so terrible that when WrA opened I immediately came here.

Oh the memories.

I wish they’d just squish the servers together at this point to help both factions bolster their RP populations. The old server rivalry that used to be a thing years ago is pretty much moot at this point, most of us have alts on both servers depending on the faction anyway.

While I don’t think that’s the best solution, it would really give Blizzard a better idea of how massive their RP community is, so heck it, smush them together and let’s see how quickly the chaos ensues.

As someone who did move from MG to Wra for Horde RP. It’s because Horde roleplay on Moonguard is dominated by small groups of people who seem to only promote roleplay that happens in their circles. I won’t get too deep into it or cause any issues, but the issue with moonguard is it’s centralization by community figures. That’s true on MG-A also but the difference is MG-A has the walk up and sheer member size for that not to truly matter in the long run.

So, No I wouldn’t even return to MG-H which is sad to say because I think both servers can host both factions with relative ease.

Sadgati Jayavanti @ Star Forge (SWTOR) can point you to other RP options on a world far, far away called Azeroth. I am not able to say on this platform, unfortunately…

I heard this rumor too and I have no idea if it was ever true. I heard stories of people getting to GM Island intentionally or being pulled there by GMs, dazzled by GM items and other wonders, then sent back to normal player areas with fantastical tales they couldn’t prove and we all questioned (yet hoped) were true.

I also remember scaling the hills of Dun Morogh to ascend to the mythical airport of Ironforge you (back then) could only see via OG gryphon taxis. In that same vein, I remember finding a path through the mountains that divided the Burning Steppes and Elwynn to Thunder Falls, yet another spot that was inaccessible and only glimpsed upon when riding the OG gryphons. There also was the infamous 24/7 troll rave on Kalimdor… did anyone here ever find a ground path to join them?

Pre-Cata, pre-flight WoW had such mysticism around unexplored areas and we entertained ourselves with so many urban legends about what was real or not. Many, many hours were put into the game exploring and pathfinding through various inaccessible hills and other terrain boundaries to confirm player rumors in Thottbot comment sections.

With Wowhead, wikis, and YouTube videos, a lot of that wonder and mysticism vanished over time. That said, there’s always the Secret Finding Discord. :3

GM isle was indeed real, it was a strange zone.
Here are some ancient relics, displaying the… uh… majesty of it!

It was very real. Most of the time, going there just earned a free hearth back to your capital city along with a verbal warning, 24 hr suspension at worst. If you hung out for a few then hearth out on your own, probably never got caught.
