That’s the no changes movement for you. They are the ultimate conservative luddites. For them, any change is bad - they don’t see any room for innovation or improvement of old, creaky hacks.
Very true, however… there arn’t many experienced tanks. While it might be nice to think everyone we see is a vanilla veteran… very few are.
What is going to make Classic such a hit is that it’s so old it’s new. People like the OP find it challenging… and most important… have lots of things to learn which is part of the overall satisfaction… improving yourself and your character.
My experience in dungeons have been extremely good. But then again I am playing with 2 friends and we pull in a couple pugs, make friends, and have a blast!
I didn’t describe it as either of those things. I said it was faster, because it is.
If there’s an excess of people looking for a composition that enables faster clears, it’s probably because there’s an excess of people who want to go fast.
You are definitely in the minority. Not everyone cares about going slow and methodical; they just want to clear the instance without issue. For most people, the faster they can do that, the better.
Go watch the world first vanilla Ragnaros kill video.
We, as a player base in general, are better now. It’s a fact.
“Get better” doesn’t mean picking the right talents, gear, etc. It means being good. Knowing how to play, not keyboard turning, using the correct abilities, coordinating, communicating, using cooldowns on trash packs to clear the instance faster, etc.
We AOE-ed BC heroics too.
Just go arms and tank with a 2h man.
lol typical retail player.
“where my aoe yo?”
Aoe pulling in SM is more fun than the snore fest that is pulling two mobs and sheeping one.
As a healer, it’s boring I never go below 75% mana and end up just dpsing.
Instead now we get lock and mage aoe, shaman, and a “tank” using the ww axe. 30min run, and more challenging.
Everyone is free to play CLASSIC-WOW on the way they want lv 1 to lv 60. Nobody is puting a GUN on your head to spam dungeon like Modern-WoW/FF14.
Go play quest + grind on the openworld enjoying the game at your own phase.
There is a tornament for a special e-sport event to rush lv 60 or clean raids no RIGHT? Then just be mature and enjoy wow
Warrior brethren, while I commend you for your dedication, and sympathize with your plight (our AoE threat in Vanilla was garbage), you’re doing it wrong friend.
See, your problem is thinking you need to be prot at all to tank while leveling. This is incorrect. The easiest way to tank (in so far as holding aggro is concerned) especially at low levels, is going Arms or Fury. With Arms you throw on Sweeping Strikes, with a 2hander and Whirlwind/Cleave your way to victory. With Fury, you do the exact same, sans Sweeping Strikes (but do more damage from having Enrage/Flurry).
See the easiest way to hold aggro over the uppity overzealous DPS crowd, is simple:
Hit harder than they do. I use a quick series of macros and aura scripts that allow me to seemlessly rotate between Overpowering for big crits (which means big threat), and Revenge to build quick threat on targets I’ve dealt less damage to. For big AoE threat points, get yourself a Ravager.
You really do not need to Sword & Board any content before UBRS/Strat/Scholo (end-game 58-60 dungeons), and I can’t recommend 2hand tanking enough. Not only are you able to hold threat better, you’re doing more damage so you have more rage to work with, and because your team is now effectively 4 DPS and a healer, your clear times are that much faster.
Obviously be smart with your pulls, but assuming you aren’t charging into every pack, and occasionally ranged pulling around corners to bunch things up and cleave them down? It’s a night and day difference my friend.
most classes have some form of control. utilize that, sheeps, saps, etc. and mark everything in order, skull/x/everything else.
as a former prot warrior in van/bc you never get any aoe abilities except for the tclap change and thats really only to hold threat on you against a healer healing you.
so many tanks are tanking mobs in the spot they see them, its frustrating, as all melee dps should be moving behind so the tanks arnt getting parried into oblivion.
ive ran into exactly 0 tanks that have marked anything (level 30 so far). the only saving grace is anyone can mark, so I usually end up marking a kill target.
Most good DPS will utilise their control whenever the tank is too braindead to ask them to use it (sheeps moon, more than anything)
But there was no real design for any aoe tanking in vanilla at all. People will claim otherwise, however it’s gear specific, and high end gear at that (like thunderfury, or other items that allow you to aoe without your talented abilities).
Ideally, for a warrior tank to aoe tank successfully, there should be marked targets, and the DPS should ramp slowly on the main prio target, then open once threat is established, and use threat reductions like feint when they skirt too close to the tank.
I’ve been surprised at how much tanking doesn’t even matter in low to mid level dungeons. For example, I went through gnomeregan and SM graveyard a few times today with a sword+shield ‘tank’ warrior that wouldn’t use sunder armor and didn’t hold hate on much of anything. I was face tanking nearly everything on warlock just via damage, and there was no issue.
For start make sure you are using raid target icons. Set them to your numpad for example. Each pull kill order and cc. Have macro that explains this each time so you dont need to repeat along with your rules. Tank it spank it or remind them to run to the tank. Ranged need to be standing together to avoid random face pulls. Oh and threat meter required or they are kicked.
Same here.
I had no idea battle shout generated rage, i usually use it before pulling
Somehow I never tried warrior in Retail, decided to do it in Classic.
I´m having a blast btw.
dem shout works 2 dont it
canr remember
Yes demo shout works too and provides a nice debuff, but you typically just apply it once as it is just okay for threat.
Demo Shout is 43 threat on each mob it hits, also Demo shout can be resisted.
Battle Shout is 55 threat per group member in combat that receives your buff and is applied to all mobs on your threat table. They nerfed battle shout in patch 2.0.1 because it caused too much threat.
Those threat numbers are based on the high ranks of the abilities.
Communication is important, it could be good to tell the team members that they cannot do full do’s all the time.
Sorry you are not enjoying warrior tanking may I propose that you reroll a Druid? I absolutely love tanking with my Druid
Hey man you are absolutely right I hope your experience gets better. Unless you are running with guild mates that you can explain things to it might be better to level as arms or fury until people learn the new playstyle.
It’s not “retail mentality” it’s USE YOUR SINGLE TARGET THREAT BUILDERS. WIth 1.12’s threat, there’s no excuse why outside of a lucky chain of crits that DPS should be consistently pulling off of you. If that’s happening, you’re not playing as well as you should. DPS should not have to not do their job because you can’t do yours. If you’re learning and trying to improve, fine, we’ll hold back if you’re struggling. But if you’re just instantly throwing a tantrum because you’re clearly not building your threat on the kill target, you need to get better.
CC should have been needed in all instances. but patch 1.12 allowed the retail mentality of aoe spam everything. CC was the fun part, aoe smashing stuff is boring as hell
You’re extremely condescending. As if it’s rocket science that Revenge and Sunder Armor do lots of threat when it says it right in the tooltip and that’s been the case since Vanilla. You think I’m just trying to tank with auto-attacks or something?
This thread was about DPS players being irresponsible in the first place and quickly went off-topic. At least some people were kind enough to talk about the Shouts, which is non-intuitive and great advice.
