Jordan (developer for whom the Staff of Jordan is named), had a very interesting interview where he discussed class development, and paladins (particularly rets, as he played one) and their balance.
I don’t remember the YouTube channel, but it shouldn’t be hard to find. As a warning, it’s long.
No. MC will not be part of release and will be part of their “first gate” of tier content. Where the hell did u see or even hear that it would be opened with the release of classic cuz… I watched the whole of the classic material from Blizzcon and have referred to it many times since without seeing “OH YEAH. MC and the first tier raids will be open from release so the people that can take 3 weeks off work will be 60 and in MC epics before 95% of the player base can even hit cap”
yeaaaaaaaaaaaah. Cuz that makes SO MUCH SENSE.
It was open on private servers… It was NEVER. Open from day 1 on live.
I remember doing the quests. And then running into the portal into an empty zone and running around MC at the end of month 1 of WoW with nothing in the dungeon.
I have my old hard drive somewhere in my garage with the screen shots of empty MC.
Ony first defeat: 2 and a half months after release.
Rag 1st defeat 6 months after release.
1st kills in MC were about the same time as Ony.
Again, while there. Nobody downed them for MONTHS. Current raiding is locked behind time gates because of the ease of leveling. While not EASY at all per-say I cannot see week 1 kills in greens. Blizzard has learned a little bit and I dont see it just being a free for all opening for people to go start clearing MC on week 2…
Jordan was effectively saying that throughout the development of classic, there was a constant battle between the lore aspects which the role was to fulfill i.e a plate wearing holy fighter in the thick of combat augmenting allies with support spells while swinging a big hammer. And how the class was actually being played, a cloth wearing healer who stood at the back of the raid spamming 1 button, he went on to say he himself played a ret paladin and eventually, and elaborated on some of the design decisions and intent behind the class… he also shed light on some elements which private servers got wrong e.g holy damage should be completely unresistible, whereas on private servers it can be resisted, alongside many other mechanics on private servers being wrong e.g general pve resistances and spell penetration.
PvP blues I was critting for up to a couple thousand… Estimated everybody needs to do 100 DPS to kill the boss is kinda… I mean… Maybe right now? But we did more than 100 DPS was the hell back when…
I was 2-3 shotting full epic warriors in PvP and if you go look at the loot tables nothing has +spellpower on it anymore meaning those are the changed items from past Cata release when they removed +spellpower from gear…
This is blowing my mind right now Archeon, I can’t wait to see what Ret will look like in Classic as opposed to pservers, for better or worse, just to have finality regarding the data.
mmm, definitely! I dont want to get too optimistic, but I am fairly certain that ret is going to be far stronger now that everyone understands min/maxing… the majority of min max just wasnt applied to ret during vanilla because as the dev discusses in his interview, the common consensus by the time naxx rolled around was that it wasnt worth wasting the time on the spec so it was vastly undervalued when looking at its full potential…
By the way I am citing his interview on Count Down to Classic, I am aware he also did one on ClassicCast
Yeah thanks for this! I’m really interested since our Classic guild will have one spot for a Ret. Not because of inclusiveness as much as we want to see the challenge unfold, with data, from a true source. The constant suboptimal talk gets so boring, I want to know the meta. I mean, other than some guys like Esfand, has the meta even arrived? I’m not sure, that’s why I need to see it with my own eyes, in my own guild. Truly exciting stuff.
There are many players who arent playing currently, arent raiding currently, or are just playing casually in anticipation with classic, and alot who did this straight after nost went down, I cant wait for the fractured player-base to all come together finally and we will see new metas and competition emerge, its good 1 or 2 players are advocating currently for the spec but the competition and meta development hasnt even begun
Paladins were super powerful in the right hands. Early its a toss up but especially in AQ40 and in Naxx gear paladins were… whew! Hard hitters to say the least. I was happy to play alliance so I never had to fight them ever except in duels. hah
are those the different segments i was referencing? sorry I am running off memory if I did make any inaccurate references; however i think that was a fairly accurate summary
The first timestamp is where your paragraph starts and it ends about 7 minutes later. Haven’t gotten to holy resist yet. The other timestamps are just impressionable points for me.
