Beside the obvious mobility issues, ret damage needs a massive boost.
Did we get like shadow nerf lately or something? Because as a 70 Ret paladin im being way out DPSd in groups by non-70 warriors, DKs and DHs.
So beside not having great mobility, or survivability now we can’t even put out damage like we should…

No, Ret is just in a REALLY bad spot. Ilvl 310 MW Monks will pull more DPS then a 340 Ret Pally right now. It’s really sad.

This dont worry about this the damage for pre 70s doesnt scale well with actual 70s that is no failing on your end.

Honestly? No, Ret is doing just fine. I felt underpowered at first, but really you just have to get used to optimizing how you use your abilities, and it makes a massive difference. I’m still working on it myself, and there’s a big gap between myself and the other ret paladin on my team at the moment - but we’re definitely not “behind” at all.
You just need some better gear.
Also, the scaling is weird. The lowest level character in a group will always outdps everyone else; when I was 68 and was in a group with a 61, they did like 3x the damage of anyone else, because they were getting scaled up to 68.

I’d like to echo this, with a caveat. Ret is not an easy DPS to play, and the rotation is quite complex. We work on roughly 1 minute burst windows, and when set up right, I’ve seen 100k+ DPS pulls when I was trying it out around 345 ilvl.
It takes getting used to and I still mess it up often, but I have been the top overall in a majority of the dungeons I’ve ran so far.
For single target / raid however, we’re quite bad.

I haven’t had that issue, if I’m honest. At minimum I am competitive with other similarly geared folks in ST, that are not simply better at playing their class than I am. I think that people are suffering from a bit of “Simulator Sydrome” - yes, at the very highest of levels maybe Ret falls behind - but for the vast majority of players, the simulator isn’t particularly relevant beyond helping you pick what loot to keep. The spectrum of player performance is quite wide. Personally, I would reserve judgement until people actually start raiding.
I will agree that we lack in all departments, but i honestly haven’t been in anything where id consider my damage less than great, been doing consistent 45-60k per pull with 1 min cds and 140k pulls with wings and trinkets.
But in everything esle yeah, defensives feel worse, healing feels worse, movement feel worse.

Im pulling 100k+ on AoE packs and 60k dps overall on my m0s. Your dps is a skill or gearing issue.

I re-did all my talents last night and got like a 20k boost by focusing on a more cleave/aoe build
Still can’t keep up with the DHs though their AoE damage in bursts is just insane, I’d have to blow all my CDs to come even close.

Ret damage is absolutely FINE. Please don’t spread this misinformation and pollute the conversation taking away attention from what ACTUALLY needs fixed:
- Mobility
- Defensiveness
- Raid Utility

I feel like mobility isn’t just a ret issue. All paladins have that.

Bigger reason to fix it then, but the problem is that as a dps both in pve and pvp gap closers and mvoement abilities can be more important than for a healer or a tank, specially when you dont have the defensive capabilities other classes do.

I felt super good on my Ret at first, I didn’t feel weak or anything, I had enough heals and ‘save me’ buttons when things got hairy…and then I hit 70, and jumped to my Hunter and Monk to level their professions on Dragon Isles.
I’m not sure if it’s just scaling at lvl 60 in those pre-launch blues or what, but they feel SO STRONG compared to my ret paladin, especially now at 70. Even with an ilvl of 350 and a pretty nice weapon, fights take too long and I end up losing too much health. After trying other classes, now my Paladin just feels pathetic.
That could simply be stat scaling from lower levels. Until you have some gear typically hitting max level will reduce your overall power as secondary stat scaling spikes.
Well blizzard added talent points back. This is a major change to what it’s been since Cata.
Yea legion artifacts were in truth talent points but last 3 xpacs were Barrowed power acting like fake talents.
The talent point system I feel was rushed to get dragon flight out the door. So I feel dragon flight is the test system for return of talents.
I expect this whole expansion will be blizzard trying to adjust to a system they been half ignoring or hiding under the hood.
Don’t expect things to be balanced till mid till late expansion. Even the. I think we all know that balance in world of Warcraft is just a silly idea. Be thankful this expansion is easy to level other classes. PvP gear seems easy to catch up….but pve gear….well best of luck.
Wish I had better advice…. But when it comes to wow the system is up in the air and always has been. I love wow but its major flaw had been balance. It has too many specs.
Take a look at classic as an example…how many specs are the “Top” it’s always been about meta. It harder to to determine what’s best to play as adjustments are constantly moving.
I’ve learned to pick 3-4 classes and adjust to nerfs. Sucks cause it becomes a waste of time when your favorite class isn’t BIS. All you can do is enjoy the game as it gets changed.
I think other classes are way overtuned and hopefully blizz will fix that
