While maybe his suggestion is indeed, not lore accurate like AT ALL, Belves need something to make them visually unique in the coming of Belf cloning Velf side.
And green eyes don´t cut it when I expect to see people demanding golden eyes for their “High Elf” RP experience (which lore supports… heck, I´ve already seen people asking for the fel green eyes for Velf cause "muh warlocks and Velves were Belves thereforte muh Fel green eyes!!!).
Under this paradigm some form of red eyes + customizations associated seem like the ONLY way to give something unique to the Belves as far as aesthetical differences are concerned. The Velfers / Helfers can ask for tattos or scars using the “Velves are former Belves” arguments, but the Blood magic stuff is something they CAN´T demand by default, cause lorewise they lack the tools to do so (the Dark Animus is only in the possesion of the Belves).
