If I do a 4 hour job in 3, I’m going to chill for a few minutes. Same concept, just as a mechanic.

well…tell you what. here is how I got my crafter so good. List of skills several millions in cost. optimal training to have this all learned ASAP (still many months).
oh and i make nice deals with semi-botting miners. They botted but at least one of their 5 chars answered my ping when I said Lets talk volume discounts.
they are too lazy to move all their crap. I cut nice prices as I have to fly my (jump) freighter on this route anyway. so that lowered the bottom line costs.
and there ya go. months of training and negotiating with several miners across at least 5 systems.
or…pay me. why I stopped being a nice crafter. too many people made me “bad”.

well too many corp people blue falconed me. its an air force term…google it if not known.
I didn’t know about this; looks like I’ll be going for maximum Resourcefulness before fulfilling any crafting orders!
Work orders shouldn’t have a 5 gold commission either.

You think I don’t have alts just to send mats too? And just for this reason? I’m also in this thing called a “guild”. You see, we all play together including fulfilling work orders for one another.
Also, you made it sound very grandiose - pushing a button in a video game. But this shows why this system is doomed to fail. The crafters want just as much money when they don’t even have to do as much work gathering necessarily. People aren’t going to give you as much if they gathered the mats.
Would you pay $2k+ for someone to put together your gaming computer after you spent $2k on the parts? If so I will gladly offer to assemble your next computer.

OP have you tried calling the police for this theft?
It’s the crafter who invests in having such resourcefulness, so it’s his proc.
Unlike real life, here the crafter doesn’t thin or replace materials with cheaper stuff in order to save some materials. Here extra materials are literally created from thin air.

You’ve never actually commissioned something IRL have you? My parents recently had their 9’ Mid Century Modern couch recovered because you can’t buy couches in that length anymore without paying insane prices. They had to buy the fabric they were going to use, not the crafter. The crafter told them almost precisely what they were going to need plus a yard or two. Did they get the spare back for patches? LOL no, that’s not how it works. The crafter keeps any spare materials from the commission. So that’s actually how it works in the real world. Most commissioners don’t want that back because they have no place to store it. They have other concerns.

Crafting orders seem to not exist as an engineer. But you have to be at a craft appropriate crafting table and click on the crafting order tab in your craft interface.
