‘only 5 minutes’.
…and then the world beats a path to YOUR door and whether you like it or not.
Why would you be worse off if the Government was in their place? Got some “conspiratorial nonsense” to share?
The worse corporations will try to do with your info is just try to better sell you their product directly to you based on your preferences.
And to judge market trends and consumer interests.
Right, because lobbyists don’t exist.
Or how about this one: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2017/12/after-swatting-death-in-kansas-25-year-old-arrested-in-los-angeles/
Some lunatics make it a risk just to go outside when you see the blue lights. With how easy information is to find on the internet, securing it like it is still the 20th century is stupid af. And selling it off to the highest bidder without any regard for privacy is irresponsible and sleazy.
Actually the worse thing they can do, and they do, is sell it to other companies. As far as I know, there are no laws dictating who can buy this information. While a lot of data is lost due to hacks, a lot ends up floating around just because no one is tracing where your information is going.
Edit: Also, the government already has all our info so that was a moot point.
I question why would a company sell their own consumer’s information to their competing rivals?
We are the APP.
Your information will be assimilated.
Your financial and personal data will be added to our own.
Privacy is futile.
Use it wisely my lord and master.
Sold - no. Given - some of it. Not our Personally Identifiable Info though. I do agree with most of the rest of what you said though.
Not really. Your phone number, name, address, financial info, are Personally Identifiable Information (PII) as defined by law. They legally can’t share that in any way without your approval.
Incorrect. Please Google Personalty Identifiable Information (PII)
NIST definition
The following data, often used for the express purpose of distinguishing individual identity, clearly classify as personally identifiable information under the definition used by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (described in detail below):[18]
- [Full name] (if not common)
- [Face] (sometimes)
- [Home address]_(geography))
- Email address
- National identification number (e.g., [Social Security number] in the U.S.)
- Passport number
- Vehicle registration plate number
- [Driver’s license]number
- [Credit card numbers]
- [Digital identity]
- [Date of birth]
- [Birthplace]
- [Genetic information]
- [Telephone number]
- [Login name]
Google the NIST standards for PII. It is not something random and your name, phone, and address ARE considered PII.
Because it makes money. Selling data is how many companies make a decent chunk of their profits. Any social media company is selling your data.
I don’t have an account on Twitter and Facebook.
Don’t we agree to their terms by clicking an “I accept” button?
Congrats? What does that have to do with the over arching potential of companies sharing your personal data?
Nothing.
But if Selling consumer data to competing rivals is how companies make a decent chunk of their profits, what’s the worse that could happen from this in regards to the consumer?
Yes, and those terms say they can’t sell your PII, including name, phone number, address, etc. If they violate those terms they get sued.
So what can they share? How many players connect from X ISP, how many players use a certain video card, how many use X software, etc. Nothing specific to you, but useful for industry to look at trends and such. I also assume they share stuff with Activision.
What bothers me, is we have no idea how the Ticket company app data will be used.
The app in question is not owned or run by Blizz. That means the privacy policy would not apply.
NIST. the institute that stated the towers pancaked at freefall. lul
Your name, number, and address are already out there in the public domain(white pages and background records). It is public information. And could be argued as such if it came down to it.
Who said anything about competing rivals?
The Government?
Uh…wut?
