Oh, and if anyone uses ANY social media, it’s laughable to boycott Blizz over this.

And pretty not smart

And yet everything you’ve quoted points to “without consent/knowledge” or “happens in the background.”

Funny how they’re all the same and a panel just had a discussion on whether or not the terms of service is sufficient. But the underlying definitions all point to the customer not knowing about it.

And God forbid should companies in the business of creating a safe environment on your computer have definitions of spyware-- that even your definitions back up? :face_with_raised_eyebrow: Sounds more like “I don’t trust these companies, so they’re not credible, eventhough they’re computer software developers and what I posted still lines up with what they said.”

You’ve proven nothing except it’s the same definition I gave. Yours only adds a panel for debate over what some think should or shouldn’t be better highlighted in the terms of service.

So thanks for making my point. :+1:t2:

This app is not spyware. It’s not selling your credit card info. People are flipping out over a Reddit post that’s full of false information.

Time to move on.

Reasons for boycotting a company are many and varied and can be idiotic or sublime or anywhere in between. Whether they are effective or not ultimately depends on the breadth of audience that shares the sentiment justifying the boycott and their depth of commitment. Their usage of Social Media doesn’t enter into the equation.

And it also quite unequivocally states that there is no consensus on WHEN consent/knowledge is sufficient. Guess you skipped that little tidbit hey what?

I wasn’t here to prove anything to you. You aren’t owed any proof of anything whatsoever. If you thought that, you were mistaken.

They are not in the business of creating a safe environment on your computer. They are in fact in the opposite camp. They are in the business of making money. One of the ways they can do that is in creating a revenue stream off of maintenance/repair/support tickets. As such, because they CAN profit they have a CONFLICT of INTEREST per se. Their conflict isn’t something that might happen or can happen its a part of who and what they are. You feel free to trust them if you like. Doesn’t mean that the conflict of interest isn’t there and doesn’t impact their business decisions.

The thing you don’t seem to get is that they are not MY definitions they are the acceptable definitions based on opinions of a regulatory body tasked with coming up with a definition and even then THEY could not find consensus.

You have no proof of this.

If you want to trust them do so. Others with more skepticism will not.

You have no proof of this.

If YOU want to trust them fine do so, but I would ask that you not attempt to get others to trust them without you having some manner of verification of your statements, as doing so would open you up to culpability if things went sideways.

No clue which reddit post you are talking about. Could care less about it as well. It should be obvious to most that abuse could happen and that it could happen is reason enough to make sure it doesn’t happen.

Yes. It is. First thing you have said right today.

If abuse can happen and there is incentive for it to happen, then the odds of it happening will approach 100%.

Trusting Blizzard is one thing, trusting Activision is another. And trusting a 3rd party mobile app vendor is just crazy. Feel free to trust people with no incentive to protect you and every incentive to farm you for $$$ if you like.

Blizzard is doing everything to make you hate them. It’s working.

I mean, at this point this feels like intentionally screwing your customers with no regard…it’s like they WANT to go out of business…I just don’t understand…at this point someone can sue for descrimination based on beliefs…this is the wrong move, YET AGAIN.

Someone needs to post this on Facebook.

I’d like to see a statement from Blizzard on this.

The whole thing has been debunked on reddit, so the conspiracy theories from reddit have been disproven by reddit:

It’s just a pretty basic app with fairly standard permissions.

There already is. its called The Constitution. But the people originally made it to control the government, now the government uses it to control the people.

Jokes on them, they will have to pay people to take my data.

…and that’s all it is.
Trust Skynet…erm…the Internet.
They are your friends.

This is why I have a burner phone with all of the spyware apps on it and fake contacts. While my better phone only has the essential applications with a firewall to prevent internet access unless I allow it.(Android root)

Speaking of spyware, I am not to sure the battle.net desktop app probably also spies on its users. I noticed that the blizzard process is still sometimes running in the task manager even if you close the battle.net app itself. Very suspicious.

I am currently using Ubuntu 19.04 with wine + lutris. Very handy for killing all of the processes started by the battle.net app after you are done playing.

A quick caveat for you, friend; I NEVER tell what security I use, especially on what amounts to a public forum.
Sköl.

Facebooked banned me for criticizing a industrial companys practices, twitter banned me for telling people not to support a gaming company (EA cough) and youtube (google overlords) banned me for saying their ads were one sided. But they still gotmy info even though My voice was silenced. Please dont be an NPC
