"Repent, or BURN!" (Holy DPS Spec)

In BC, as kind of a flukey 5-man play style, “Smite/Crit” dps was a thing in heroic dungeons.

If I’ve ever wanted anything for this game, it’s a ranged holy dps spec for priest.

An “Inquisitor” or “Zealot” spec based on meeting out the wrath of the Light as a ranged dps using holy and fire magics has always thematically seemed super cool.

I know it’s been brought up plenty of times, but I haven’t seen it lately and just want to keep the dream alive.

Their lore could be based on their desire to snuff out their shadowy counterparts as blasphemous heathens whilst secondarily torching anyone else who doesn’t fully embrace the light with their (over the top) vigor. Obvious root story tied to the Scarlet Crusade.

Demons. Void presence. Old Gods. Rumors of increased Death Knight activity. All these threats against Azeroth, it stands to reason a cult-like uprising of Light worshippers seeking to punish the denizens of Azeroth for straying from the path of their perception of righteousness would rise up to counter these “threats”, both outside, and from within. A group who believes the Cathedral of Light and the order of paladins are “too forgiving” or “too merciful” and weak in these trying times. A group who sees the Light as more than just a source for healing, or bolstering one’s own combat capabilities and protecting others. A group who wants to turn the Light directly toward their foes for the purpose of cutting them down and searing their “heathen” flesh.

Anyone else had similar notions or desires? I’m curious to see how others envision such a spec.

Also, in before “Shockadin”.

Holy mage is the idea; not the holy warrior.

I actually agree. I have always found it strange that Priest doesn’t have a Holy dps spec.

This, to me, is kind of what Disc is. The Holy dps version.

I think Disc would be better as a dps than a second heal spec.

Really I would love for priest to be split into Shadow priest and holy priest classes and keep disc accessible to both. Give each a healing and a dps spec but also disc spec.

Disc kind of has it’s own lore and I think it fits as the blend between the two—utilizing both holy and shadow in a perfect blend so as not to drive the user to insanity. This is best explained during legion when Alleria Windrunner returns with similar powers to that of a disc priest.

I think what got me most was the Legion priest class hall and purification of a fallen naaru—I really felt that the shadow priests would have stopped the holy priests but I really am not a lore master, so this seemed to confuse me a lot. I feel like shadow and holy need a break from each other, they just don’t mix.

This is what it has always struck me as too.

The dark side of “Holy”. Or more like “what happens when Holy goes bad?”

It absolutely would not be better as a dps spec. Stop.

I’m with you. Leave Disc as is. Just wishfully thinking of a fourth spec for holy based ranged damage.

I wouldn’t be opposed to having a Holy range DPS spec (i loved inquisitor in Rift) but do not think holy should be transformed into it. If anything it would be disc but i mean disc is already accepted as a healing spec, they would of had done that in BC when they were revamping specs.

I’m not looking to replace the current Holy or Discipline spec. Just dreaming of a stand alone holy/fire ranged spec.

At this point, I’d settle for a “Green Fire” questline to make Shadow’s visuals Holy.
Despite not liking the visuals or gameplay of Shadow very much, it could be neat as you burn brighter and brighter as your Insanity (Righteousness? Some other word for holy inspiration/strength/power) meter continues to burn.

I’ve given up hope for Blizzard to create anything useful or desirable for groups to pick holy over Rdruid from this day forward. Skepticism is real

Yes and yes!, I apologise for necroing this thread but I was looking to see if people suggesting this.

WoW doesn’t have a dps caster class/spec that’s strictly holy or divine powers, easy 4th spec for Priests, or as suggested a “Green fire” Type quest to turn Shadow into Holy aesthetics.

If a new class were to come out, it could also be a mail type class, ranged with 1h and off hands, I’m thinking like old school inquisitors, mace in one hand, Libram in off hand, the “burn in righteous holy fire” type class, also ofcourse use a staff.

Sorry again for necroing, but theirs a gap that could be filled, Paladins are melee orientated and Priests are strictly healing, while disc does do some dps it’s not strictly a dps spec.

Don’t apologise for necroing. OP had a great idea and is obviously a super genius and probably super sexy IRL.

Holy priests should get an ability that’s like a whip made of light, and when they whip evildoers, the priest yells “shame!”

I think most classes (the exception being druid and DH) need a new spec. I def think that holy based dps should be the one for priest. Have it be the opposite of shadow and closely related to disc. Where shadow is a DoT based class, have the Hdps be all about upfront dmg. And I’d love if instead of a builder spender, or combo point style play, they instead have multiple spell interactions and CDs so you have to decide how to juggle those CDs to get various dps effects, kinda like WoTLK enh

I played a smite priest during Vanilla. It was only PvP viable because you could dump 1k smite crits on people (people had 4k hp). It was completely useless for PvE because for one your crits only had a 50% damage boost modifier instead of 100%. Mages basically ran circles around you.

Smite priest became completely irrelevant once BC came out. Peoples health pools went up a lot, but your smite damage didn’t.

BFA smite priest you can only do like 10-14k dps tops.

It absolutely would be. Go back to the Warlock forum, or post on your Priest.

I love the idea of an Inquisitor holy dps spec…smiteing it way through the heathen masses.
