Blizzard isn’t removing weakauras. It’s the weakaura developers that are packing up to go home. Weakauras with combat information won’t be allowed, but everything else was fine.
No one plays PTR. We need more than two weeks of prepatch in which it is available to everyone on retail and other addons can still be used.
There will be a grace period… the Beta if people get an invite or buy the Epic Edition and the PTR. All the changes will then happen in the Pre-Patch so people have time to get used to them before Midnight launches.
You’re right, the weakauras developers are at fault. They don’t want to commit to making an addon that only functions to check notes makes people say unfunny jokes when they start and finish eating.
90% of Weakauras only exist to improve the quality of the (terrible) UI using information that is already available in the default Blizz UI but isn’t neatly presented.
The Pre-Patch will most likely be about 6 weeks and the addons being affected will not work.

Seeing as Midnight doesn’t launch for a few months… consider this your grace period.
I am not even sure what this means… it seems like a ploy to just delay the inevitable.
If Blizzard waited until the Last Titan, it would be more of the same complaints.
Personally I hope we don’t get any time to adjust so the shock at just how much worse the games UI is going to be ends up driving people to unsub so blizzard panicks and is forced to revert many of these decisions.

Have you looked into the Blizzard updated UI that is available in Alpha? It sure appears you haven’t.
The PTR is what this ‘grace period’ you want is designed for. If you or others don’t want to use it, that’s really your problem.

When does beta come out? I got the epic version. Can I access beta?
The only add-ons I really care about are Details, DBM, and GTFO. But will try the base UI ‘combat warnings’ in beta and see how it goes.
Where’s this PTR exactly? Can you send me a link to where I can download it?
I know that. People will have those 6 weeks or so to adjust to not having the addons that no longer work.
Even though I will miss my UI WeakAura’s I don’t blame them at all for not wanting to spend several months reworking the addon only to be left with a shadow of what it is now.
Sometime after the Beta starts nobody knows for sure. We’re still in the Alpha phase now.
The Pre-Patch PTR won’t be out for a good while yet but.
“You can create your PTR account by visiting your Games & Subscription page . Once created, you can access the PTR from the Battle.net Desktop App.”
I know the PTR isn’t available yet. I was being facetious as multiple comments have suggested playing the (non-existant) PTR.
When it’s available obviously. 
If you want something sooner then hope for a early Beta invite.
