I target an orb, moonfire it and… it doesn’t die. unless I have a procced moonfire, I have to spam it several times for that to be enough to kill it.
to kill it, I have to reserve mangle for it, at which point, I overkill it by a stupid amount and waste that damage that could have otherwise gone into the mob I’m fighting… assuming mangle isn’t on CD.
I would agree with you if it was as simple as target->moonfire->dead but it is not.
Maybe if I’m only doing trivial +5s, it would die, but in +20s? one attack is not enough to kill it. Probably not in +15s either.
Its such a horrible affix that greatly favors melee, and even then…its still horrible.
Now throw in a cast time, and how 1 lightning bolt is not guaranteed to kill the orb in 1 shot…
As an elemental shaman, for me to go after explosive orbs hurts my DPS so much that the best course of action is for me to completely ignore them and let others do more of the orb work.
this is how blizzard likes to design these affixes though. not every class and spec efficiently deals with every affix, that’s part of it being a group activity where you get to choose your own group.
some things suck more than others but I think thats the general idea around it…
you don’t bring disc priests during bursting week, you dont stack dot classes and casters during explosive week, and you try to bring hunter/rogue/damage based tanks during skittish week.
that said they definitely need to either design classes better or take a look at redesigning some of those affixes for sure to be more doable for more classes.
you kinda have to spend as less time on trash as possible with long, tyrannical bossfights. This week is fun because the affixes tell you to pull small, but the timer tells you to pull big
