Remove gathering professions or change how they operate

It is amusing blowing these up on multiboxers/botters.

Yikes. Take it easy there Sargeras.

Special glowy nodes should take 3. Makes sense.

I love gathering. I’m glad you have an opinion. It’s so rare these days.

But you don’t speak for anyone but yourself.

I didn’t care for the garrison system for this use case.

I recall going around, mining my nodes, picking my herbs, on my DK which had neither profession.

I remember doing it every day.

I remember it being part of the litany of the daily “routine” and that by the time I was done, 20m into the play session (and, no, it doesn’t take 20m to farm herbs and mine nodes, but it doesn’t take zero either), I was already spent.

When I decided to let the glittery, sparkly things lie, and just sparkle through out the day, and just ignored them. I was much happier.

I’m much happier bouncing about in the world.

Abandoning the “chores” of the garrison made me a happier player.

So, nope, I don’t want that kind of gathering element either. Rather fly around and pick flowers. Or just buy them off the AH when I need them.

Fun fact: Palia came out last year and I do the exact same thing in that game.

Housing is not a Garrison and you’re not getting things like this in housing.

I actually enjoy gathering. It’s soothing to me. I can zone out and just fly around, listening to some lo-fi and chilling.

There’s tons of reasons to be out in the world.

Indeed. And I don’t understand why people keep trying to delete things from the game that they don’t like, when others do.

I feel like that if you consider yourself a gatherer and buying off the AH is ever a serious consideration, something is wrong.

ALL gathering profs SHOULD have been secondary, just like fishing is.
Literally no difference between farming fish, ore, herbs or skins…its ALL gathering mats.
Then we can have two CRAFTING professions.
should have been this way from day one.
Having fishing be a secondary profession while the other gathering professions are primary…just LMAO

lol…i do what works best for ME at the time.
If ore prices are thru the roof, I farm ore and make a bunch of gold
If ore is cheap and I need to level my eng…I buy it off the AH.
Literally nothing ‘wrong’ here at all.

Same. just flying around Pandaria farming ghost iron ore when the price is half decent for a couple hours…very relaxing.

wut?
you mean like INSIDE the housing?
if so…HARD pass. I dont want or need anything keeping me occupied in there longer than it takes to place a chair or painting.

thankfully bliz is never gonna take this suggestion seriously

Exactly…and what were the peons doing in the garrison all day? Picking each others noses?
they were pretty useless.
Its my garrison. Im the head honcho…and Im doing the grunt work lmao…only blizzard could come up with that crap. lol

yeah?
Most of my time is spent running old world quests, farming old world mats, running old world dungeons and raids for mogs and crap.
The game isnt going to revolve around your type of uninvolved with the world game play.

uh…no

Right, with Goblin shredders and Dwarvish steam tanks. Did you know that even back during the time of the Babylonians they had these things called “mines” where people identified there was lots of ore and they would dig into the ground to extract stuff.

No one has ever collected little bits of metal off the surface to do anything practical of scale in human history ever. That is just not how it’s done. Please go read up on history before commenting.

This is a fantasy video game. Not real life. And we do have mines in this game. But they aren’t practical for gameplay. That’s why games do nodes.

Palia, which is newer, literally does the same thing. As do other MMORPGs.

ITS NOT BLIZZARDS FAULT. ITS THE PLAYERBASE.

I swear, I am tired of people blaming Blizzard for something that EVERY MMO HAS. Blizzard HATES bots. Chargebacks from stolen accounts = LESS PROFIT.

This entire forum is filled with people who do not have one iota of knowledge about game making, or bot defeating.

If players werent lazy pieces, there wouldnt be a bot problem, because players would actually WORK for their gold/matts instead of relying on third party sites.

I love my gathering professions and don’t won’t them changed. It’s all I have left after they ruined the other ones, and I stopped leveling them because of it.

Hardly.

It’s a time value proposition.

Simple example. There’s a weekly herbing quest.

Collect 10 XXX and get a point of knowledge.

I go inside, grab the quest, go outside, mount my Auctionhouseasaurus, buy the herbs, collect them from the mail, and go inside to turn it in.

Why?

Its expedient.

I sell all of my herbs. I have a “mail all my herbs to my alt” TSM thing set up. Note that it’s not “mail all my herbs except the ones for the quest this week”. I’ve on several occasions spent the week flying around doing casual herbing only to find I still have the quest and no herbs, because I simply routinely shipped them off to my alt.

So, now I skip that whole thing, and just buy 'em of the AH, fill the quests, and move on.

Herbs are money. They’re fungible. I don’t “time the market”, I just sell them at convenience, and buy them at convenience. Notably, during the beginning of the expansion, commodity prices tends to start high and then freefall, that is, it’s a deflationary event. During such events I am motivated to sell my herbs as fast as possible to catch the falling knife of the prices.

With that situation, I “save money” by selling my herbs now, and buying them later should I ever need them.

Similarly, it is better as an alchemist to grab the herbs of the AH as fast as possible in order to get the higher prices for the dependent goods, than it is to take the time to farm up the materials and then sell the goods. Buy the time I have gathered enough, the prices have fallen. (There’s always ripples in this.)

Eventually it evens out and prices stabilize. At which point it doesn’t matter, so no reason to farm mats when I can get them from the AH. Just try to watch out for spikes.

For my tailor, its cheaper to by the derived materials than make them myself.

That’s the economy, and the world of increasing availability. Bots are part of that, but not all of it.

The other path is scarcity, and rising prices (not necessarily rising profits), and nobody wants that.

Have yo considered the possibility that perhaps gathering professions simply aren’t for you? That maybe you should find some other kind of content in the game you do enjoy, and make money that way and use that money to pay someone else to gather for you?

I, for one, really enjoy winding down with about an hour of node-tapping and chat.

That’s a you issue. If you choose not to engage, that’s on you.

and it also killed economy for consumables, I really wish people would just stop complaining about professions, it’s not a gameplay problem

YOU are just lazy

If someone would rather pay someone else to gather than do it themselves, then by definition they are not finding it fun enough as an activity in itself.

Gathering would be better if WoW had anything in the open world.

Lets take the rares for example. They’ve just given up on allowing them to drop anything at all now I guess? Lol.
In ARPG games, if you go into the open map and kill stuff, you have a chance to get loot or even useful components.

For some reason WoW is mortified of being compared to Diablo, so it will actively avoid logical and fun game mechanics.

And why did they add zone scaling if the gear is never going to scale? What even is the point of anything they do anymore lol.
