I am a responsible healer and I play pug 4 hours a day because my friends arrive later.
I queued, entered a dungeon with 4 people from the same guild. The tank - a DH - was in front, pulling the entire room towards the boss and the 4 of us were running behind. I was able to heal the 1st boss without deaths. When we were heading to the 2nd boss, 3 of them started insulting me; the tank and 2 dps. I continued healing. When we got to the 2nd boss I noticed that they took a vote and kicked me out.
Placing a 1-minute penalty is enough to avoid encountering those players again. In my case not even that, because I reported the 4 and therefore they went to ignore.
I have noticed that there has been a strong increase in intolerance towards healers. Tanks donāt heal themselves like in DF and the solution is to say ātrash healsā, āpathetic healsā instead of learning the new rules of the game. Or now I have aggro, and they keep chain pulling while the npcs stab me.
There is no āvote kickā for dps, Iām not seeing it. It is exclusive for tanks and healers.

So, it is okay for you to screw over 4 other people after you no longer benefit? Even if you are replaced, you screw over the person who gets pulled into a dungeon and can no longer get loot from the first boss.

Iāve been kicked several times -maybe 15- in the last 10 years, and thereās always a common denominator: a tank that goes ahead alone, dps that donāt do the damage that the tank expects, and oh coincidence, theyāre always groups from the same guild or realm . Groups of friends and there was almost always 1 dps carry.
This is why you donāt heal them at all if they are chain pulling.
If they die on a chain pull thatās all on the tank. Not my chair, not my problem.
Nobody is screwed over, but yes, it should be fine to leave dungeons after partial completion without a debuff. They wait a few minutes and finish up. The world continues spinning.
Thatās roughly 1 kick per year. A deserter buff for kicks is still justified.
As someone who was around when folks didnāt get a deserter debuff when you were kicked, I had way too many folks hold group hostages ā especially tanks ā because they didnāt get the dungeon they wanted but still wanted the random dungeon reward. If you refused to kick them and tell them to just take the debuff? Theyād just afk through the whole thing.
So yes, deserter debuffs when kicked is quite necessary and itās there for a reason.
Yes, either the 4 other people who now have to wait for a replacement, or the person who is brought in as a replacement who can no longer get loot from that first boss. Either way, you being selfish and leaving screws over other people and thus you should be punished.
I strongly insist that the vote kicks that are being given are for healers, and to a lesser extent for tanks. I play most of the time with my healer, but Iām raising my alts dps. I havenāt seen 1 single vtk from a dps. The disagreements are always in tanks and healers. Then they wonder why both functions are missing.
How many times a day would you have to stay silent while they insult you, call you trash and make fun of you?

Requiring people to stay the whole heroic dungeon to not get deserter debuff but keeping the ability to kick someone and make them get the deserter debuff is about to make queued dungeons extremely toxic.
And continue to screw over the other 4 players who have to wait (it starts to get long, especially if they are waiting on a tank)

How about limiting vote to kicks like 2-3 a day? Or put it on a 4 hour timer or something. Maybe, put a gold cost on it that keeps increasing when used in quick succession. There is a lot of thing that can be done, I personally like the timer. If someone really needs to be kicked, odds that everyone that can initiate would be on cooldown would be low.
Or, you just complete the dungeon as it is intended and everyone is happy.

Not at this stage of the game where everyone is getting to know new dungeons, their class with new talents, etc.
It is called ātoleranceā and it is an exercise that tempers the mood and spirit, and a basic requirement in a team game with strangers.
