Reminder to take the BfA uproar with a grain of salt

I mean the alternative is that they are actually this incompetent, so which would you prefer?

The problems exist outside of an opinion. They’re observable, they’re persistent, and they’re not being adequately addressed nor communicated about (Enhancement Rework anyone?).

Lol. Well we are in agreement that basically everything in life is liked by some people.

Take what with a grain of salt exactly? There’s plenty of problems with BfA and they aren’t all addressed with 8.1. Some classes are just outright boring, some of the content while interesting doesn’t have enough incentivization to consider doing and some of the content is just not fun (islands specifically).

I think they did well with islands in 8.1, it certainly feels like less of a trash grind now. More portals, more random events and more rares feels better.

However for me BfA is subpar because of two main subjects that effect the entire game.

  1. Class design, they removed 3 spec specific systems from legion and replaced them with 1 classwide system. Plenty of classes suffer from this and it feels like we lost more than we gained. This especially affected leveling as we lost our tier and our legendaries with nothing in return aside from 1 or 2 passive azerite gains that were largely unnoticeable when leveling.

  2. incentivization, they removed this from mythic+ essentially. We had AP to farm from m+ in legion, we had legendaries to farm (this was a negative, however currency could’ve prevented the outcry) and we had gear. Now we only have gear but there’s so many additional ways to get gear and high m+ doesn’t reward base gear above 370. Warfronts also award 350-370 gear. Point here is that m+ lost AP as incentivization which was a huge factor outside of just doing it for score on a third party website.

Those two things effect the game pretty heavily for me. I could do islands all day even if they suck if my class was fun to play. Bfas iteration of ret/holy compared to WoD/legions is a step or two backwards imo. Both are a lot slower with less baseline, lost 1-3 baseline abilities from legion that became talents. Hopefully they focus more on class design in future expansions if they plan on continuously removing these artifact systems that affect classes.

So even though World of Warcraft is the most profitable game, Activision is sending secret messages to Blizzard to intentionally make the game fail? What business has ever intentionally sabotaged their most successful product? Why make WoW intentionally worse when just continuing to release “just okay” expansions will keep everyone subbed anyway?

Veskr: I read that thread and you misrepresented what that person said, by a mile.

That was dishonest of you.

It’s there for all to read, I directly quoted him. That’s dishonest of you to say.

World of Warcraft is now a title that has been ~17 in the making (including original development time), the profitablity is completely shadowed by what Hearthstone was able to do in a matter of months, and even weeks. Yes it’s a successful franchise, but Success≠Profit, which is why Diablo has turned into a Mobile series. Diablo 1 and 2 we’re immensely “Successful” but there is no way to get extra profit after sale.

A ton of class/specs have been left hanging. There is a long list of poor design choices and the like. When the blues interact they have to be careful what they say because they can get a shaman style revolt.

When BFA was in beta the devs ignored the feedback. Instead went ahead and launched the game before fixing the issues. That’s kinda a bad thing to do honestly. Not to mention the horrible time gating and pointless Q&A’s. Were players are told that the devs know whats best. The devs really don’t seem to be motivated to care. Which is why I hope Actv gets involved.

I readf it all, and what youy left out was context.

BTW Veskr, you can prate all you like about Classic…its 2004 gameplay and that dont fly in a modern market.

"QoL " is death by a thousand cuts..lets just ignore the fact that there isnt an MMO out there that DOESNT use an LFD system, shall we?

Context.

Excellent.

I’ll remember you said that and refer back to it after classic becomes a phenomenal success again.

So the smartest business move for Blizzard right now is to intentionally sabotage what was an already existing, profitable game?

Er no, it’s been confirmed multiple times Diablo 4 is being made. Diablo isn’t turned into a mobile only series. I don’t see what this has to do with your 4D chess conspiracy about Activision wanting to tank its most successful property.

WoW has the tokens and cosmetic shop as well as the recurring $15/month subscription fee. If that were the issue Blizz would have pumped the cosmetic store full of stuff a long time ago.

It’s a bad game in it’s current state.

No. Which leaves, they are doing it by accident. Which doesn’t make them seem competent enough to organize doing it on purpose.

FTFY.

I do love Blizzard as a company. (the hours the diablo, sc1, warcraft games that helped my childhood is many)
I may not agree with all their stuff (like the infamous “do you not have phones?”) and the balancing issue of WoW and OW leave much to be desired.

But I still love the game(WoW) as a whole because its been a part of nearly half my life and I have made many good friends through it. (it was my $15 chat service past 2 xpacs and sadly not as active this xpac as its “meh” and my friends are not playing it atm either)

P.S. Yth…its just not the same w/o your beloved icon D:!
tell the forum devs to make it top priority to restore your icon!

Good. Vindication is sweet. Just keep digging that hole.

Veskr: Even Blizzard has said that what they expect is a small hardcore audience.

I think your expectations of a “Vanilla revival” are premature…and unrealistic.

Duly noted. From the same people that brought you BFA. Keep it coming.

Do you actually believe that WoW players who very much dislike this expac are so weak-minded that they are victims of mass hysteria put out by a tinfoil-hat select few?

I mean…those of us who don’t like BfA just don’t like it. It isn’t fun. We have various reasons for not finding it fun, though many agree on some of them (and we disagree on others).

There’s not any mass hysteria. Just a good amount of dislike regarding this dev team’s design choices and an unwillingness to pay for a game that isn’t fun.

It seems to me that the hysteria is mostly coming from players who are scared by the amount of players leaving.
