Yeah not on my Vanilla server. Our High Warlords were hardcore PvPers but we had a few top end guilds with geared players that would dominate the BG’s. It will probably feel different with classic because you won’t be fighting the same groups locked to your server. Unless blizz puts some of that PvP scaling magic in the background most players won’t have any idea what to expect when they drop to one WF burst.
Unstoppable Force was easily obtainable by playing AV (back then) and mediocre geared Shaman wielding that weapon 1-shot just about anyone with a double WF crit. Granted, they were not doing that left/right but it did happen. And Shaman was the least played class in vanilla.
I’m perfectly fine with the gear scaling as it was. I’ve fought plenty of R14 players and while some were better than your average player, I still found plenty who were nothing special. This is reinforced by the fact that my original guild leader AFK’d his way to R13. He even admitted to people that he was doing it and nothing was ever done. He just stood in the cave, jumping now and then all day long.
Gear/professions/knowledge/skill at your class/addons/macros/key binding.
That is PvP.
Knowledge
You can have T3 but if you go afk in the open. You have a higher chance of dying.
If you are at the bottom of a lake getting cc with no breathing under water potion, you will die.
Adds all around or trapped by the terrain. With a cast blasting you from above, you will die.
Point everything you do in the game matters. It all gives you advantages of Winning. Gear helps but it’s not be all.
Racial helps and classes help depending on the class you’re fighting/spec.
If you think gear is everything, you will die to a t1 or green whoever. QQ about cheats or they jumped you/ganked you.
Prot holy pally will destroy any melee class in blues and the other class is in T2.
You would have to kite or hit and run.
Realistically PvP gear should always be the strongest gear in game. PvP is end game. It should have the best sets, functionality and stats. Dragon slaying is just the beginning. After that is all said and done you PvP for years in the actual End Game. Testing your might vs other powerful players.
Most RPG games the actual content isn’t that hard. It isn’t supposed to be. It is supposed to be farmed over and over. To get better gear to farm it even faster and easier to build up gear for the challenge of End Game.
The game really starts when you have Full Gear BiS. That is when your real journey begins.
Honestly, the PvP gear rewards aren’t that good compared to raid gear unless you can no life it and get at least R12. Even then the gear in AQ40 and Naxx is better with the exception of maybe the weapon you get at R14. Basically, raiding is mandatory for doing well in PvP.
The rewards of even the blue set were good. I was fine with a ranking system but I just wish it had been implemented different back then. Having to live on here to get the best PVP weapons was not the right way to go. Now, those who play this game 23 hours per day will surely disagree with me on that.
The blue set is a good starter set, but MC gear is better and that raid is piss easy. It just will take some time to get that gear because only a small amount drops per week.
It heavily depends on the build, niche items, stats.
Not every build needs Naxx gear. With that said I have plenty of Prot PvP builds before Naxx however “IF” I want to eventually run a Shield Slam/Impale build and do big Shield Slams I 100% need the Shield Block value gear from Naxx. It wasn’t until Naxx going into TBC that this build even became a thing with the on use Shield Block value trinkets, (Glyph of Deflection) items etc… It became fun until they eventually nerfed it in WotLK. Prot is supposed to be bursty not sure why people complained, I blame Mages! They are supposed to get 1 shot.
As I’ve mentioned a few times before, purple PVE gear was good, but the power difference was not that huge. The “numbers” may seem like they would be, but they were not. Topped off with the fact that most raiders stuck to PVE for the most part and didn’t have a whole lot of PVP experience. This was evident when seeing people in T2 not utilizing their PVP toolkits properly and not being a challenge.
You can do well with blue pvp gear. Rank 10 isn’t that hard to get. Also, idk why people are under the assumption most people will have full end game raid gear? Most people will remain in blues the entirety of classic lol
They won’t. I keep seeing people bring that up or talk about how raiders are going to dominate BGs. I can tell the people who said that never actually played vanilla or they did, but did not PVP much or at all.
The number of people who actually raided was a small %.
Raids are post nerf and people know exactly how to do them unlike back in the day where information was scarce and the average player was playing very poorly.
That they do, but they were still 40 man raids. Back when we had 10M+ subs, there were still very few who actually raided. With subs probably less than half, do you think that number of raiders will improve to the point where they will make the impact you assumed?
Maybe it should, maybe it shouldn’t - - but the reality is, in Vanilla at the very top PVE gear is best. Just the way it is. That’s the game. That’s how it will be in Classic too.
That said, if you must have the very best gear then you are going to have to raid.
If you are like me and hate to raid, then you will have to learn to get by on lesser gear. The blue PVP set is a decent start and combine it with some rep pieces and a lot of pvp skill and you will be fine.
Yea I am for #Nochanges
Just was stating a point.
Yea you do and I will Raid because when I have BiS is when the game begins for me. That is when the game becomes really fun. When you become an Immortal God. It’s the whole point of playing an RPG. It’s the core part of the game and must be done. Just doing it in the older game was actually fun. Where in retail all we want are PvP vendors and gear instead of doing Mythic + which is terrible.
I started to hate raiding and expansions when MoP came out. The game was already in a decline from Cata.
However I did enjoy Raiding in WoD because for the first time ever I could fill my class fantasy with Gladiator spec warrior. All I want to do is big damage with a Shield and loved progression in WoD. The “BIG” difference is in WoD PvP gearing was the best of any expansion. PvE gear wasn’t BiS in PvP except for a few items until they were nerfed. BiS for PvP was PvP gear as it should be.
At least in Classic you can play your warrior how YOU want and that makes PvE fun and not an unbearable choir where you hope for Titanforge in a chest a week latter.
So I will go after the best gear possible because I love Twinking and Min/Maxing. If I can get +1 a stat I will spend hours and hours trying to get it. Just the game is going to be fun in Classic. It isn’t like retail where nothing matters and it’s an endless mindless effort playing a slot machine.
BWL is easy in 1.12, there will be more people with T2 this time
T2 is noticeably better than the blue pvp set
Maybe as far as stat numbers go, but performance-wise, I never broke a sweat against people in T2.
However, I do hope you’re right that there will be more people raiding BWL so that it’s not just those who play this game 23 hours per day getting purple gear for PVP (R13/14).
anyone can make those claims so whatever. you could go for T2 yourself, its not that hard and the weapons are better than HWL and much easier to get
Make what claim? That more people will raid BWL? I was just hoping they did.
Overall healthpools are low, base dmg of spells is high and there is no resilience.
Naxx gear is really op, but that wont be around for a long time.
Classic pvp, which also is limited to open pvp for 2 phases, is skill > gear based for the majority of its timespan.
Compare classic to, for example, BC and/or Wrath and youll see how much less gear impacts your pvp experience in classic.
Op is wrong.
