Relieve Pressure on Healers in M+

We’re all familiar with the problem of bad dps in keys standing in stuff and just expecting the healer to heal them through it so they can keep doing their dps. Blizzard seemed to have heard these calls before when they reduced the damage impact of storming and instead made it knock up and interrupt damage. But they need to do more of this. Right now, in addition to all the normal damage in dungeons, almost all increasing aspects of M+ key levels, and especially affixes, tend to just do more damage and ultimately fall back on the healers as their problem to deal with. I understand people saying “well it’s just a bad group then” and “get a better group” blah blah blah. I know that, and I’m not disagreeing. But, not everyone can do that all the time (and puts all the pressure on healers instead of everyone in the group) and ultimately there’s no reason it MUST be this way.

What if, instead of all the mechanics just dishing out more and more damage that people just selfishly expect healers to deal with, setup affixes and certain mechanics to instead/also apply a stacking outgoing damage reduction debuff (or and X second stun, or X second silence, etc.) The more people (esp DPS) get hit with it, the more their damage keeps decreasing. With so much focus on damage rankings and parses, all of a sudden dps will start paying a lot more attention. And then, the primary driver on completing a key can shift from being all about the healer keeping everyone standing, and just health focused, to a party wide responsibility on avoiding mechanics in order to do enough damage to meet the timer. Obviously you have to balance it so there is a good challenge still for healers. And I understand that for MDI level players this isn’t an issue…but news flash, the majority of your player base does not play at that level. A change such as this could help the majority of your player base while still being balanced for MDI levels as well.

Please relieve some of the pressure on healers to makeup for everyone else’s mistakes.

part of the reason I like being a healer, is because of how niche we are…it’s like this whole fantasy portion of the game, where the Tank is the main character, the dps are the personalities, and the healer is the savior.

I like being able to correct and “Carry” a team - to a certain degree, it’s part of why many of us play healers. It does suck sometimes if you get a group that isn’t working together well, not stunning, or helping out healers much (you see this in Grievous weeks especially), but the feeling you get with correcting everything and saving the group when things go south - is awesome! especially from a fantasy perspective (if you care at all about that).

A good friend of mine (who plays a tank in very high end mythic raiding guild for a few years now) always said she hated healing, because it felt like “juggling”. lol so there’s def different reasons to like/hate healing in its current state.

I agree with your take, but it’s one of the more interesting parts of mythic+ content if that makes sense. Just a different point of view

as far as that debuff, I don’t think it would make mythic+ interesting per-se, since less damage output from your dps (regardless of how bad they’re performing) is just going to continue to make your life as a healer much more miserable (because the longer fights go on, the more mana you’re using, the more abilities on bosses you’ll see, etc.). So it seems counter productive to me because you’re not really eliminating the issue, just kind of shifting it (if that makes sesnse)

But anyway, I hope you’ll continue to heal and see some other sides of things

Healers are in a strange spot. Playing with a good group is pretty easy mode compared to playing with a bad one. But there isn’t really any way to fix this. Other than making everything easier for everyone.

The problem already sort of works itself out as you get into higher keys, because avoidable damage starts to become lethal, and there’s no better feedback that you’re standing in something you shouldn’t be than when it instantly kills you.

A lot of healers also run EH and toggle the announce so that players are actively shamed after every mistake, so that’s another option.

This is why I got into healing as well. Back in the day, a really solid healer could overcome a whole lot of incompetence by simply out-healing the stupid.

Sadly, I think healers are probably the role least capable of carrying in the current M+ game. As key levels go up, mistakes become increasingly fatal regardless of what the healer is doing. Even worse, we have the least impact on the timer of any group member. =/

To the OP, I sympathize with your position, but debuffing DPS would still ultimately come back on the healer since longer fights would tax on our resources. =/ I’m sure everyone has experienced this. Heal a key where the DPS is averaging 5k, then heal a key where the DPS is averaging 3k. Even if the key level is the same, and people are handling mechanics correctly, the first key is going to be much easier just because things are dying faster.

If you’re playing with people that stand in bad stuff, don’t interrupt and get hit by mechanics then you need to not play with those people or be more precise with who you invite in pugs.

Healers have such an easy job most weeks if you’re playing with competent people, I know healers who prefer to Tank and DPS when they’re a healer main in raids because it’s boring to them. You just need to surround yourself with better players mate.

Great advice guy. Just surround yourself with better, 226 geared players. So simple. All healers running keys <14 just do this. Problem solved.

Taking someone’s advice and ramping it to the extreme is really idiotic. You have plenty of tools at your disposal to see if the person you’re inviting has potential to be good and all it takes is a few seconds of thinking.

Here’s a thought you probably never had either. How about you socialize with the people who are playing well in your keys and toss them a friend request? Well look at that now you have a wide variety of friends to play with who are all decent.

This games community is unbearably dumb sometimes.
