My stepdad works for the state of MI, he has capped sick time and vaca almost capped lol, dude is nearly retired so he’s just waiting for the payout when he retires.
I mean… that’s technically tues
The old everyone works 9-5pm EST fallacy. Oh us Americans are so silly.
400 million is not 7 billion ![]()
And that’s why most companies got rid of it. Governmetn positions having it don’t surprise me since they are spending someone else’s money. One place I worked switched like 20 years ago. One woman I worked with had a full year of sick time accumulated. She had worked there for like 30 years. That was a big pay day…
Yea, sure the EU people love it launching 11pm/12am
Lot of companies have no payout policies anyway regardless.
We can roll ours over 1 year but lose it if we don’t use it after that.
you should check into that, it is likely illegal for them to have an earned benefit that has restricted use and then take it away without payout
The old everyone is European fallacy. Nothing changes but the level of smug
Most of the US doesn’t really have PTO laws.
We also don’t “earn” our pto, it’s just given. I work for a law office, trust me, he knows what’s legal.
That’s cause we aren’t commies!
I’ve never worked anywhere that PTO wasn’t earned and I have worked for several fortune listed companies that set the standards.
Small companies generally don’t make you jump through hoops to get pto.
Our pto is based on part time vs full time and nothing more, we get 6 weeks worth of time off. Doesn’t matter if you’ve been there 10 days or 10 years.
Its almost certainly still earned. For instance, I have 8.5 hours added to my PTO balance per pay period.
Nope, we get it as a lump sum on the first of year, or the day you start, depending on if you just got hired.
Same for hubs. Well, start of the fiscal year for him, but if he wanted he could take his 4 weeks right then. Doesn’t have to accrue it before taking it.
That’s nice but I assure you it is not typical
Most allow you to take it from day one as well but if you leave before it is earned back they deduct it from your final check
Yea, larger companies tend do do things in a more… numerical way.
We’re only 6 people total.
Gotcha. I never had to deal with anything like that… but I have been out of the workforce since 2001 so it’s very well likely things have changed. ![]()
I even worked for a company that gave unlimited PTO. That was weird but man morale was high
