Reduced framerate on M1 Mac after 9.0.5

I made a thread on the CPU heat issue after patch (thought it’s with my iMac).

Also caused by the Blizzard app

At least I know it isn’t my computer I guess. It happens whether I launch the game via battlenet or not.

Apple (low power) issue as well. Recommended options are p much lowest you can go.

I’ve turned off triple buffering as well as v sync with graphics on 1, texture quality at Fair, particle density on low and I’ve been able to prog mythic raids so it seems to be half way decent. But I’ve crashed out of the game and had frozen screens soooo many times during prog. And it’s still so messed up if I even turn view distance to 2 with everything on low. Plz fix this ASAP, supposed to be Native to M1 guys. Cmon.
$20 bucks says you guys shorthanded some code that wasn’t compatible with the native version and now it’s lost in the game somewhere and some intern is trying to find it as his 4 month long project lol. Plz hurry up, this is really bad all because of a patch…

G’day,
I play wow on my macbook pro and Ive always had smooth 60 fps on all low settings on 1280x 720 p resolution.

However since 9.0.5 update, fps has drastically reduced and I am experiencing stuttering. I don’t care for fps in open world, but I don’t understand how fps in a 2v2 or a 3v3 arena is less than Battlegrounds or a Castle nathria raid.

Empyrean Domain and Blades Edge arena are the worst offenders as they turn my game into a power point presentation. Dalaran Sewers is still a solid 60 fps.

I have tried the following methods in troubleshooting the issue:

Reinstalling and repairing wow
-Uninstalling all addons and testing skirmishes without active addons
-Running game in low resolution mode
Battlenet Application quits after launching the game.

I never had this issue before 9.0.5, battlegrounds used to be a good 40 FPS+ stable and arenas were 60.

11.2.3
Apple M1 16GB

Happening on WoW Classic… 60FPS down to 30FPS even if graphics AND resolution are set to lowest setting.

2020 MBP 13" 512GB SDD 8GB RAM Big Sur 11.2.3
Spires of Ascension wrecks frame rates
All kinds of tweaks to graphics settings some will eventually work but I can’t see a single thing on the ground with UI scale and everything dialed down to 1 or w/e
This only happens to me in Oribos and Spires. Oribos might have always been this way I don’t know. It sucks because I have to lower my Spires keys otherwise it’s a **** show in there on my part

The fact we haven’t received any updates is worrisome. Even more so when we see people not using M1 reporting issues :frowning:

Two things at play here… Big Sur and patch 9.0.5. Could be one or the other or a combination of both.

If it were strictly a Big Sur issue, downgrading the OS would resolve the issue. Squarely placing the blame on Apple. But since both an OS update and a patch rolled out around the same time, either could be the culprit. Could be Apple or Blizzard to blame.

Since no fix or no comments means either “they” are still waiting on Apple or “they” haven’t found the cause yet.

I’m not on Big Sur or M1 and experienced the halved FPS, as well, after patch.

I’m afraid this has nothing to do with Big Sur, or a Big Sur minor update.

Most of (all?) the people here started observing this issue with 9.0.5, as simple as that.

Same for me, really low fps since the update… need everybody who is affected to tell blizzard! They need to fix this :sob:

Raycappo is on Big Sur 11.2.2 and has the issue since 9.0.5. I’m on Big Sur 11.2.3 and I have the issue since 9.0.5. The 9.0.5 update broke something…

Adding in another post on this. Currently running BigSur 11.3 Beta 6 on the M1 8/8 and the fps issues are still there. As I’ve read above someone that is not even on an M1 is having the same issues we are all having so at this point I really want to put the blame on Blizzard here and the fact that we are not even getting updates has me worried as well. I get things take time to research yet is that even going on is the question. Would be nice to hear from someone at Blizzard or maybe have Blizzard have some of the M1 users try things as well to see if they might help/fix things. But with 2 separate laptops both M1’s one being beta (current machine Im on now) and another that’s just normal no beta and next to nothing installed on it (clean out of box pretty much) this persists.

Throw us a bone here Blizz?

Not sure how many this will help, but I’ve found that by resetting my Displays in System Preferences, the problem went away. I just selected “Default for display” as my resolution, then changed it back to my “Scaled” preference of 2560x1440. That solved the problem for me.

It’s not just M1 Macs, nor Big Sur. Ever since 9.0.5, my Shadowlands frame rate has died. I’m running a (late) 2013 iMac 27" with 24GB RAM, and Catalina 10.15.7. Like others, Ardenweald posed a big hit on FPS, but the game was still playable. Since 9.0.5, I’m getting 6-10 FPS while just sitting outside in the Elysian Hold sanctuary. After 9.0.5, I reset the graphics settings to “Recommended” with no real change. Strangely, if I run into the lower vault (where the vendors are), FPS immediately jumps back up to about 30 FPS. My FPS is fine everywhere outside of Shadowlands (40-60 FPS).

Still no solution. Very frustrating how long this issue has lasted with absolutely no followup from blizz. I get the impression they haven’t even attempted to find a solution.

Almost a month I have this issue. The unhelpful support and the silence in the forum makes me believe they just don’t give a damn. Shame on you Blizzard

Hi everyone!
Just to let you know there’s a player who posted a solution that worked for them.

It didn’t work for me, but it’s worth a shot.

It involves resetting the entire interface by changing the names of the Interface, Cache and WTF folders; followed by a scan and repair from the bnet client.
Good luck!

Edit: the solution above to “reset” the Display preferences didn’t work for me either.

Edit 2: it seems the Windowers are facing issues as well! :o
Have you guys noticed that the biggest fps drop happens at Bastion? Elysian Hold is a pain. Ardeanweald is alright, hard area to render even pre 9.0.5. It seems the fps drops at Bastion could be related to the anima conductor! Unfortunately all my anima streams are reinforced so I can’t turn them off. Speaking only about M1 only here.

Edit 3: People have connected this issue to their own anima conductors, not just at Elysian Hold for us Kyrians.
