We were super proud of that in Battle for Azeroth and can’t wait to do some things with those kind of returning characters that people either know like Kael’thas, or someone like Draka who has only been either in books, or in Warlords a different version of her and so those are opportunities for us to take some of those characters and make them vital again and show different sides of them."
If my eyes could roll anymore, they’d be bowling balls. Don’t get me wrong, Kael’thas I understand perfectly. He’s a well-liked character who had a ton going for him in WC3 going into WoW and was cut off abruptly before he could get into any kind of character development, and hopefully it will be great to explore his character more in Shadowlands.
However, I cannot say the same about Draka….
There’s just no reason to bring her back, even in this capacity. We’ve already seen her in-game and what she is like back in WoD, what could her MU counterpart possibly offer that we haven’t explored through our interactions with her in AU Draenor? I could list at least 5 Orc characters who are far more in need of additional exploring:
-
Kargath Bladefist- One of the OG Orc Chieftans who we knew next to nothing about. What was his role in the Shadow Council, what makes him tick, and how did he go from being an Orcish symbol for freedom to demonic bondage offscreen? These are things that need to be explored on this guy.
-
Ga’nar- The brother of Durotan and uncle to Thrall, in WoD we got to interact with him for a very brief time and he received pretty darn well all things considered. His MU counterpart on the other hand, we never got much on at all and it would be nice to see him again since he was such an enjoyable character for the short amount of time we had with him in WoD.
-
Urukal Blackhand- The mate of one of the most notorious figures in Warcraft history who we know next to nothing about. Could be interesting to explore.
-
Orgrim Doomhammer- A character who had a big arc planned in WoD that was cut extremely short and was unceremoniously killed off in the middle of the expansion.
-
Kilrogg Deadeye- Like Kargath, an OG Orc chieftan we knew next to nothing about. We could explore his role within the Old Horde, his personality and core values, and much more.
Of all the more obscure/interesting Orcish lore figures they could’ve went with, they go with the only one who’s still readily accessible to us whenever the writers want to do something with the AU Draenor again. Like, we did this song and dance in WoD with AU Draka and Durotan, Shadowlands is an opportunity to interact and explore characters that we may never have the chance to explore in any other expansion such as Zul’jin, Gorefiend, Blackhand, Lothar, and so many others.
I’m just annoyed that we’re getting a character who we’ve already taken time to explore additionally, give other characters a chance.
