Reasons to take warrior in m+

What can these guys bring into my keys? As far as I know they do less damage than rogues and DH and bring less utility so why would I invite a warrior?

For funsies

Less damage? Not really. Fury does have a target cap and is going to fall behind on reaping, but they’ll still do decent aoe damage while focusing tormented souls. Throughout the rest of the dungeon they’ll generally be on par with a DH, just not bursty. Single target they’ll demolish outlaw and DHs. Great on tyrannical bosses.

Utility? Well, no one uses noncombat cc this season and parties tend to be capped on stuns anyway. They can interrupt as well as any melee, and can provide an aoe slow without cooldown that is probably their most underutilized ability. Taunt, high health, rallying cry, and outstanding self healing can avoid wipes, especially in the event of tank death.

Bottomline, fury does a ton of damage, and you’re gonna bring a rogue anyway. You’ve probably already got more than enough utility and your key is much more likely to succeed if you bring the better player instead of a bunch of abilities you don’t need. Fury warriors have timed 24s and even 25s, you’re almost assuredly not doing anything hard enough to call them a liability.

Interesting. Thanks for this. Also just noticed you only mentioned fury so arms are a no go then?

Arms is capable up to at least +20 but fury is undeniably better.

Without going into details it just does more damage in 90% of situations and has slightly better utility.

Vadimier sums it up pretty well. I only play fury personally, even when arms was better, so I kinda use dps warrior and fury interchangeably. Fury is going to do alot more dps in most circumstances, and those comments I said about keeping up with DHs overall and demolishing the competition on ST don’t apply to arms. Arms can definitely do 20s though.

Fury can play a build for more reaping damage, and can even keep up with the big bursty AoE specs if the wave comes all together. The problem is, you sac some of your sustained cleave+single target that normally gives you an edge. At that point, you’d likely be better off with a similarly skilled arms warrior.

On the other end, arms is only good for very high burst AoE, (as well as grievous/bursting weeks but that’s separate) but lacks single target and sustain. Arms can take a build for more sustain+single target, but at that point you’d objectively be better with a fury warrior.

So if you see a fury warrior with RA+BS, he’s padding reaping. If you see an arms warrior with Cleave+multiple ToM traits, he’s goofing.

Yeah if you can sandwich a bladestorm between two whirlwinded rampages while everything is grouped up you have a shot at winning the pad off. It’s so rare to happen like that though that I think its easier to just say fury is probably going to be your bottom dps in raw damage on most reapings. You can make some talent adjustments to do better but…why? Reapings easy and fury is so good at the hard stuff.

I do think that BS has it’s place in m+, beyond pure pad, but specifically comboing it with RA is a pure pad build. Especially if you add in a GS trait or two.

BS on it’s own, or with AM, is actually legit damage on a reliable-regular timetable. I see it said in Skyhold a lot, those two talent rows are mostly preference, and I’m forced to agree.

RA has it’s use, but it’s the same as BS, so putting them together is just big aoe damages and nothing else.

Oh I’m with you on BS and AM. I’m running them now  Skyhold convinced me to try AM this week and I’m hooked. Throwing siegebreaker away is so freeing in M+, since I seem to continually find myself having to choose between holding it and wasting usages or blowing it suboptimally.

I do at times feel like I could be pumping more st with SB/DR, but that’s obviously feelycraft and nothing more. It’s at most a 1-1.4% loss not having them, and the trash gain is pretty significant.
